I have a 16 year old daughter who is also learning to play drums. I understand that your comment wasn’t rude but you must understand that what he needs is support. I'm sure he knows that he should improve (even professional musicians know that they should do it), he shows that he puts passion in what he does, so I think comments like yours don't help much. It is not about being a snowflake, but comments like that to a young man who has probably been playing drums for a couple of years should only come from a teacher or someone related to him. What snare drum do you use in the video?
An old tama royal star Steel snare that was in bad quality when I bought it but I restored it to make it look new.
