That's correct. I didn't realize it opened in '79. I thought the Grandway part was built in the 60s and the plaza was built on in '79 but I could be mistaken about that. The turquoise brick facade that has been painted over wouldn't have been the style in '79 but maybe it was a Grandway thing? Edit to add: Looked it up. Indeed landfill was shuttered in '77. Didn't realize it was so recent. I must be thinking of something else in the area built in the '60s.
This was a Grandway dept store. The grocery store was called "Grand Union" and was in a strip mall attached to the right hand side of the building that I understand was demolished years ago. I shopped there as a child. Had talking cash registers in the 1980s and don't forget your "Red Dot Special" to go along with your "Blue Light Special" in K-Mart.
@@TimurD1905I can confirm it was not. The place was a dump long before it closed. The fenced off parking lot to the right of the building had been fenced off as well LONG before it closed.
It's built on top of an old landfill, so the gasses which are trapped underneath have created bubbling and cracking in the asphalt. It's a horrid surface.
My hometown. We built a big fort right behind that kmart onetime. Used to be so active in that area. Used to be a petstore across the street next to the laundry mat with a monkey. Kmart used to be packed. Im 30 it was still around when i was 18. That flood took it out. Now its zombieland.
BTW if you built forts back there I hope you stayed out of the creek behind the K-Mart. Used to run a different color every day when the factories were still in town.
When I lived there I was told by someone who did foundation work not to go in that building. What I heard was they had to keep placing new piers because the dump was rotting away under the building and the slab was caving in. This problem ran all the way back to a few years after construction. I would consider my sources to be "extremely reliable" as in, the dude who went under the building might have been someone in close relation to my family who resided in the area well over 100 years.
Great video timur Barnes and noble just shuttered by me due to loss of lease and moving back to Huntington check it out sometime 4000 jericho tpke East northport Open since 2009 and no idea what it was years ago as huntington mall has changed over the years
Kmart was a main staple of American retail, now we barely have any of them open. They just never kept in with today's era of retail and also one guy that didn't give a crap about them and Sears, you probably already know him lol

1:10 This Kmart opened in 1979 actually it originally opened as a Grandway department store
Yep you're right

Now A Closed Office Depot Newburgh NY!
Wow, I'm surprised that place closed down. I was there not too long ago when I went to film the revisit of the closed Sears
I've never seen an entrance canopy made like this before. All the best to you. Adventure on!
I think they kept that entrance canopy like that cause it used to be a Grandway grocery store back in the day

I remember when it was open when I was a kid
When was that? This was a unique looking Kmart!
I Love Your New Video TD3
Thanks for watching!
It closed due to a flood
The building was probably still not in good shape when it was open during the time
@@TimurD1905I can confirm it was not. The place was a dump long before it closed. The fenced off parking lot to the right of the building had been fenced off as well LONG before it closed.
Wow! That parking lot is huge bro. This looks like a perfect area when the snow melts to learn how to drive with a family member for beginners. 8^)
It's built on top of an old landfill, so the gasses which are trapped underneath have created bubbling and cracking in the asphalt. It's a horrid surface.
That's probably why no one has really invested in putting a business there, it's been abandoned already for 12 years
Its the old Endicott dump. Lots of trannery scraps and chemicals from EJ Shoes.
The area to the left was a garden center and later, B. Levy Shoes - a rather large shoestore for the time.
B Levy Shoes, never heard of that store. When did they close down there?
Has been a while since you filmed kmart. Great find.
Thanks! I filmed one not that long ago in Lawnside, NJ, check that one out if you didn't see it yet!
@@TimurD1905 ok sure I'll watch when I get a chance

I don't think any business would wanna come there since the land that it's on used to be a landfill
They also had a large talking parrot at one time. Someone broke in and stole it in the early 90s.

As someone stated it closed in September 2011 due to a flood and Sears Holdings did not have the money to fix it and reopen it
Thanks to Eddie Lampert, he ruined Kmart and Sears
@@TimurD1905 not just Eddie because he didn't start the decline it was technically Joseph Antonini and Chuck Conaway
Hi I took the Caldor Cart from the Apollo Shopping Center btw. I’m trying to restore it.
Why would you do that? Lol, you ruin it for the people that wanna see the cart
@@TimurD1905 didn’t want it to get destroyed when the building gets demolished.
@@CLMMallProductions You should show us pictures or videos once you are finished with it.
@@filmit2694 Yeah I agree, he should post a video of it. Cause that was a rare looking Caldor cart from the 80s

Is this the abandoned place near the middle school?
Yeah, you ever been to this Kmart before when it was open?
I have, probably thousands of times.
It looks like the entire place. Is gutted. It closed due to a flood and the land is very toxic.
Yep, that's why nobody is interested in buying it and it's been abandoned for 12 years and counting
13 years now...
