Started making them in Slough. Went bust, rest were bought and finished in Brackley Northamptonshire. The owners club meets in Brackley Market place. Remember seeing them all as a schoolboy in the 80's. Loved them ever since.

Yes I agree about the rear lights, my first thought was that they looked like the rear lights from my Auntie’s Morris Oxford saloon from the 60s, so I don’t think you are far wrong on that score…👍

As a teenager in the late sixties I enjoyed watching Wiscombe hill climb in East Devon where a Gordon Keeble would regularly compete along with two Gilberns and a couple of Ferrari 246 Dinos. Now in my 70s a Gilbern remains on my wish list. Keep on keeping these beauties alive.

Must admit I was a little sceptical when you announced in a previous video that you were going to convert one of only 100 GKs ever made. However, the fact that it had already been modded means it wasn't an original spec vehicle. You've done a lovely job and been sensitive to the spirit and style of the car. Re: the steering wheel cap - I hope the car's owner isn't too OCD, because the CNC design missed the toes off the front legs! In such an otherwise fantastic vehicle, that would drive me nuts!

You and Astrophysicist Brian Cox are the only people I am aware of who pronounce tor-toise the way you do. Cracks me up. Another great conversion. I assume you get about 420km range in that so that's awesome. I was watching Stance Works in the US who is cutting up (literally) a Ferrari 308 to make a time attack car with a 1000HP Honda motor and everyone loves it. Juxtapose that with doing an EV conversion on a Ferrari and everyone looses their minds. So funny.

    • @ElectricClassicCars

It’s a nice job but slightly sacrilege on such a rare old car. The interior is nice but I don’t like the integration of the modern Bluetooth infotainment/reversing cam system. It would look nicer concealed behind a period looking speaker grille or cubby hole that could be slid or flipped out of the way when the owner wanted to use the system. I think there are at least 2 more of those WW2 radio transmitter buildings in the Breiddens/Criggion area where your machinist is located?

I was wondering about adding regenerative electric to the rear subframe of a Honda Jazz and keeping everything else the same for simplicity and long range and also to drive the aircon and the power steering & brakes. I think you would want something small and cheap that just regenerates the energy from city stop/starting rather than Tesla performance. I thought that the new electric Citroen Ami motor might do for that, but maybe 8hp & 5.5KWh is not enough?
Looking at the rear suspensions of Honda Jazzes, the earlier Mk1 (2005-2008) would be easier to do than the Mk2 from 2009, because the Mk2 had the coil springs moved rearwards along the suspension arm to be aligned with the hub, which would interfere with driveshafts. Don't know about later versions.

I confess I was slightly offended when you compared the Gordon Keeble with a Shelby Cobra. The original Cobra was an obsolete AC chassis fitted with a rather nice Ford 260/289 V8. The later 427 Cobra had an improved chassis that was hamstrung by the weight of a 7 liter Ford 427 V8. Both Cobras were amazing but compromised cars to drive. The Gordon Keeble was a much more well balanced car with a chassis that was probably better designed than the later Cobra's chassis but fitted with a lighter 327 Chevy V8. I would argue that the Gordon Keeble was a superior car to Aston Martin's DB4/DB5/DB6. Pity Eon Productions didn't get a hold of one for Goldfinger.

When a farmer's trailer popped one the rear lights on my car (Chassis 61) I found that the rear cluster from a Morris 1100 was a perfect fit so it cost less that £5 for the repair.

Which chassis number is that? I don't recall one ever modified for rallying although one brave soul did race his a few times. I owned No 72 in the 80's and 90's - its sadly sitting around awaiting restoration ever since I sold it

That is a very pretty car. On the 4x4 conversions where a tesla drive unit is used to drive the original front and back axles, how does the additional gear reduction in the axles affect top speed? Thanks for all your great videos.

You have to gear it correctly. 👍

@@ElectricClassicCars Do you change the axle ratio, or change gears inside the tesla drive unit?
