I hate to disappoint anyone here but I am here right NOW. This place is absolutely a total letdown and disguisting. Look up "tourist trap" in the dictionary, and you may well find pictures of this same town to illustrate the definition. Everything here is three or FOUR times the price of stuff, just a skip and a hop over in Maiori. The tiny cove in Positono is entirely dominated by corporations scurrying to fleece the tourist flocks. Quite to the point that you are made to feel like if you take a slight miss-step off of the tiny pomonade, you will have to PAY. The buildings along the beach and along the walkway flanked by shops create a breeze funnel that is fumigated by the ferry exhaust coming in with the slight breeze. The Gelato I had was nothing but gummy faux-lato. I have been traveling all over Italy for the past month. Here (more than any other place I have been to in Italy) your value is seemingly measured only by your ability to purchase and consume. A lot of people here (non-locals) are so self-absorbed and consumed with chasing and taking their best IG glam-shot that it's comical. Everywhere you look with temperatures in the 90's, you see women dressed in long glitzy dresses and elegant gowns. It seems like this is a place where housewives of Atlanta bring their husband's and/or sugar daddies to empty their wallets. The local business are ALL too happy to help them in that pursuit. I came in the off-season and could hardly stomach my experience. I can not even begin to imagine how much worse this could get in the peak. The absolute best way to see Positano would be by boat. Never leave your boat, shoot your pictures (upwind from the ferries) and get the HELL out of there and go back to Maoiri. Italy is FAR more beautiful than anything Positano could possibly offer.

Good point, it was part of the Kingdom of Naples, which was under Spanish rule for a couple of centuries, probably having some influence on the architecture of the area.

I can relate to that 😅 I suggest you to visit in spring or autumn, explore early in the morning and evening, and take day trips to Amalfi or Ravello. Fewer people in the south of Italy (Puglia, Sicily, etc.)
