Here's everything you never knew about what you can find in a museum’s storage area. I got the keys to a natural history museum's storage facility. In this video I open 50 storage cabinets and share facts about the interesting animals I find including: butterflies, caterpillars, marine snails, shells, toucans, hummingbirds, whales, walruses, seals, coots, elephants, parrots, narwhals, squirrels, cows, and more.

Some of these are inexplicably funny. Cabinet 10 at 4:39 for example. Something about opening the doors up for it contain literally just a beaver, standing there, is hilarious to me

I love the small musical touches accompanying the narration. It really matches the feeling one gets from watching these videos. A little whimsical, but magical feeling of exploring a new and unknown world hidden from view.

It's called cyclopia some animals can and get it fisherman in the Middle East found an albino cyclopean bull shark the odds of that is like finding a diamond in your backyard

Cyclopia is more common in domesticated animals because we breed so much of one thing. It's hard to find in the wild because they die immediately or soon after birth, they get eaten before we can get the specimen. Some can live with the condition but it is very very rare. It can also happen with humans (pls dont look this up if you're squeamish)

How can I work at a natural history museum? I was always so fond of bones, shells, animals preserved in jars, skulls, and such.

I love how humans store knowledge in some way: either specimens, images in a hard drive, or simply encrypted data in writing. We are the only animal on this planet who does this. Amazing.

I was very much reminded of the late, great Mr. Fred Rogers when watching this. Your voice was similar to the calm tone of his, and the music was very reminiscent of what played when he visited somewhere or watched "Picture Picture" to show how something was made.

I loved the trays of various insects and the detail about the preservation of caterpillars. I can deeply appreciate how delicate a process that has to be, especially with caterpillars that have delicate spines and tubercles.
I couldn't make out too many of the plants, but from what I could see it looks like the plant diorama includes models of Mayapple, Trillium, and Pink Lady's-slipper :)

It's a coelacanth, but I highly doubt it's taxidermy, more likely a replica. Usually real coelacanths in museums are preserved in fluid.
