    Thanks for the idea. I like the roof. I prefer to have the base entirely within the side panels and 10mm up from the bottom of these panels to keep it drier.

    I'm late 'coming to the party', Phill, and it's too late this year for any birds to nest, but I WILL be building a box or two. (I've seen a few of your other videos that demonstrate different bird boxes you've built.) 👍😉♥

      @@PhillWyattProjects I absolutely love 'em, Phill. I'm thinking that I should have, perhaps, expanded on my initial post by saying that we did have a blackbird nest in one of our shrubs, but none of her eggs hatched. 😥 I've got to 'do my bit' to try and help out Nature. 👍

    Nice Blackbird house Phill! Looking forward to making some bird houses myself in the near future! We have a nestin pair of Blackbird that have a naturally constructed nest at the top of one of our walls out the back of the house, in amongst some Ivy, they've been nesting there for over 6 years! Lovely birds.
    Have you thought about any modifications or additional things that could be done to help protect nests from cats and magpies etc? like something below it to catch fallen fledglings so they're not vunerable on the ground, and also to stop any cats from bring able to jump up etc? Have had to save some Sparrow fledglings in the past from being stuck on the ground. We have several cats in the area that come in and out the back garden area here, it would be good to be able to do more to prevent them from getting any birds if possible.
    Would be cool to see a Wood Pigeon nesting box if there is such a thing, if they would use one that is! They're really interesting birds once you learn more about them.
    Cheers.

      Thanks for the lovely comment Ed 👍🏻 mine has been covered up by the hedges now so it's practically invisible. It's fairly high up also away from the cats. I need to check if there's anything in there because there is a blackbird that's always in the garden. I find bird boxes really hot and miss. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do the birds wont accept it as a home. If you put the blackbird box deep into the hedges then hopefully fledglings will have plenty of branches to cling to. I've not heard of a pigeon nesting box but now you mention it I will do some research.

    nice informative video.
    just one thing, at 8 : 34 while up the ladder, you put the screw in your mouth to hold it til you were ready to screw the box to the tree.
    i was a shopfitting joiner before Iretired & did this hundreds of times, however,while putting a picture up at home, i put the pin in my mouth while getting up on a chair.
    I ended up swallowing the pin resulting in a trip to the hospital, having a tube down my throat with a grabber inside to remove the pin, all in all, not a very nice experience.
    Ever since then, I tend to NOT put any form of fastener in my mouth.
    Thanks for sharing the video,hope you dont mind me telling my story, to hopefully prevent anyone going through what I went through.

    Nice box Phil, I wanted to know we have a bird nest outside our shed and I was wondering to put the babies in a box as they keep on flying down on the ground but needs someone to put them back up. So unsure how high I can keep the box to help the babies jump back into the box without any predators reaching them (cats)

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is something I am unsure of. I don't think these types of box need to be too high up anyway as long as they are well concealed inside a hedge.

      It's still up in my hedges completely hidden now. I need to check to see it there's anything nesting in it. There is a Blackbird that comes in the garden all the time so it might have nested there.
