I used to work next door at southside flying pizza and would trade food with these guys all the time. They are insanely amazing. Miss their bowls. They constantly have a line around the block.
I used to live in Japan. I currently live right outside NYC and I absolutely agree that Tatsuya Ramen in Austin is the best I've had in America. Please open a spot up here...
Went to this Ramen place last time I was in Austin, and can confirm - it was delicious. Had to wait like 15-20 minutes, but that's pretty normal for Austin these days at the popular spots.
EASILY the best ramen in Texas. I used to travel to Austin JUST to eat here. They got one in Houston now however I STILL travel to Austin for Kemuri-Tatsu-Ya
@David Nope, it actually started from people suddenly thinking that eating 6 meals a day with snacks and dessert was healthy. Aaaaaand that has continued to the present day.
I knew I wasn’t crazy. Ever since I tried it back years ago I felt like the quality was one of a kind. I’ve had ramen all over and their tonkotso broth is top tier.
First had ramen at this place in 2019 and it’s the best ramen I’ve had in Texas by far. I live in Fort Worth and anytime I make a trip to Austin, this place is always on the list. Covid has paused the dine-in experience but the take out is just as good! Can’t wait for the day that I can go back and wait in that long and we’ll deserved line out the door while enjoying a Heabie jeebie ( did I spell that right?). Glad this vice video popped up on my feed.
I’ve had Tatsuya plenty of times and there are other good ramen places as well besides this. Agu Ramen in Houston uses fresh BBQ’d Pork. And Jinya Ramen is always great as well with different condiment options and sides.
@@youaremeish Tamashi is good as well. Honestly there are so many ramen places here in Houston. There’s another place called Iza Robata that had opened up down the road from me and the owner came from Japan and uses his own recipes for the ramen itself 🍜
There should be ramen shops everywhere in America. It should be here already. Its 2021 now and we don't have them in Cali that I know of. Come on people lets get some in Cali and all over America already damn it.
I mean, kinda checks out that they find a Texas ramen place to be pretty good. There's lots of Japanese and Korean influence here, I swear every shopping center has three shops, plenty of "mom and pop" Asian restaurants, and there's a goodly few Japanese and Korean markets around. We're lost in the cultural sauce
I eat at one of them when I came back to spend time with my family and I got my liking it and I truly loved the spicy Miso can’t wait to eat there again
Texas has some of the best Asian food in the world believe it or not. Texas in general is becoming super diverse and like the new California or New York due to the job opportunities and better living standards. Amazing food is just a byproduct of that.
I always go to the South Lamar location and always get the Mi-So-Not with a yuzu kosho bomb and extra noodles. Coming from NYC I’ve never had a better tasting ramen place so that’s saying something.
The one on east 6th is fun too because you can bar hop afterwards. A few years ago in NYC I went to an awesome izakaya spot, I need to find something like that here
I remember the day the grand opening of the first location happened i had tried it with my best friends and till this day when we say lets get ramen, bet your ass we going to the best ramen in America RAMEN TATSUYA 😋

For the record, tatsu-ya is not fucking ramen, its garlic broth soup... It's not bad, it's just not ramen... Really expensive too. $20+ for a bowl with regular fixins.
I remember eating here for my 21st birthday a few years ago and I ordered the miso hot. It was good but definitely average at best. And far from the best ramen in America lol. I only went there bc of the hype at the time lmao. Really it’s the small secretive shops you _don’t_ hear about that are divine.
That title is a big claim. Went to Tatsu-ya only once, I liked it but I’ve definitely had better tonkotsu ramen in NYC (btw I’m from Texas so it hurts to say that). I’d also argue there is better ramen in/near LA as well.
I took my Asian mom here and she didn't like it. I didn't care much for it either maybe cause it was hyped so much. Maybe I ordered the wrong Ramen. I don't remember what I ordered.
These ramen places in the US are ridiculously expensive. Ramen in Asia are like fast food places for the average guy and priced accordingly; not like these high price places in the US that serves little tiny servings. You all are getting ripped off while the owners are laughing all the way to their bank.
I lived in Austin for 3 years. I can tell you now, save your money. It’s decent for sure, but the past few times I had their ramen before moving, it was honestly tasteless and felt entirely not worth the money (13+ dollars a bowl). I know I seem like a hater, but there are so many places not listed on here that deserve so much more attention in Austin. There are like 3 or 4 companies that own some of the largest and “best” restaurants in Austin, and for the most part they’re all way overpriced and overshadow the better/smaller spots.
Kevin Luu Casita Nicole’s - amazing machetes and aguafrescas, Las Trancas - best tacos, Tan My - Best Pho in Austin, Sour Sop/St. Elmo Brewing - Amazing food overall and some of the best beer in Austin. Check them out if you can.
Couldn’t agree with you more! Austin just doesn’t really have good ramen. Best ramen i’ve ever had was in New York, however Ramen Tatsu-Ya isn’t terrible. Just not insanely good
KaiTheBoi I was probably being too harsh with some of my criticism of Ramen-Tatsuya, I thank you for making me aware of that. To be fair I did catch food poisoning from it about a week before making this comment, so I’m sure that lead to some bias on my end. I’m moving back to Austin in November and I’m stoked to check out some of the other up and coming places that have popped up since I left. Also thanks for the friendly comment!
RAMEN and PHO are the KING AND QUEEN of ALL styles of noodles, and that is including what you want to call spaghetti, if you want to make it sound like it has its own origin unconnected to the NOODLES for your ego, that would be okay. Life's too short and tasteless to fight over word description.

I love me some miso ramen! The ultimate I ever had was in Hachioji-shi, Tokyo, Japan. Choo oishi katta desu nee!
I'm only 38 and still... one evening of doing this would probably put me in intensive care. I have no idea how & why they do this.
I just turned 39 but I USED to do this. That’s a younger mans game. I can still hang but gotta call it at midnight. Father Time is undefeated.
Right? And no vegetables
they clearly dobt do all of that in one day dude power of editing lol
How did they eat like 10 meals in one evening?
Drunk people always eat more and drunken chefs have been training their whole lives for it lol
Whenever I watch these episodes, I realise the chef's tend to be obese
They don't show how long they wait in line between restaurants
Smart! Vice just didn't roll up unannounced, the chefs decided to make it about their buddies as well, super cool!
