    80% of the test was understanding how to use a DMM and reading wiring diagrams. The other 20% was knowing how to test the starting/charging system.

    Been doing my own electrical work for yrs. Re-wired my ignition on my motorcycle and my truck. But, I'm NOT certified. Just registered on ASE and set my apptmnt for the 4th of Dec. Also requesting that day off work already. Time to get certified and stop complaining. (I'm general labor, HYPER under employed).I also took courses semester ago in auto electrical and brakes. Received an A in the auto electrical, again that's not certified. Means nothing imo. I already purchased the study guide you recommended as well. My weak spots are conversions. What 1Mohms converted to K ohms. ect. I'm well versed in DMM so that'll be a breeze. Also great at schematics. But, I do not know yet what's NOT listed on a diagram. So, i took some notes from video. I know the systems you're talking about, but not to a T. So, I'll further study. I really want to pass this test. Just as a step forward. I know it's a long long journey and I'm prepared for that. Thanks for the video!!

      Awesome! Sounds like you have a lot of experience and understanding already. Should be easy for you but I do have some additional recommendations since I posted this video, the Motorage books are my go-to study guides. They are better than the Delmar ones. It took me years to figure that out but trust me. Also, we have some electronic course on our website. All I can say is to understand how a wiring schematic looks like and know what happens when their is a short or too much resistance. If you need help let me know. Make sure to check out our website driverstherapy.com

    I e got 5 various ASEs. I planned on doing T6 next because of a coworker. He said everyone is afraid of electrical but it is t really as bad as everyone thinks. He said it was a lot of diagrams with thing like, “What would cause X not work,” or things of that nature. Need to get some study material and get on it.

    Yes, I should get more familiar with the components of a starter/alternator

    • @DriversTherapy
      @DriversTherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember a few questions pertaining the starter and how it works. Knowing what happens if the solenoid goes bad vs the starter motor. The alternator was more of a understanding of how it is wired and looks on a electrical schematic. Knowing what happens when the voltage regulator goes bad or if it is overcharging or undercharging and why. Thanks for checking out the video. 🤘🏽

    out of casualty about a year ago I bought the A6 book. Scotty Kilmer recommends getting a hold of electronics if you'd like to go this field. Should I study for the A6 first or just go A1 to A8? He said a lot of guys get scared because of electronics, so I wanted to go into it first to see if my interest holds. thanks.

    • @DriversTherapy
      @DriversTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A8 was the hardest for me. It’s all about emissions but in a more complicated level. A1 is challenging but rewarding since it is about engines. The A6 can be hard if you don’t have and experience using a multimeter or understand reading wiring schematics. I think taking the A6 early though will help you down the road with the other test since they all have some sort of wiring diagram you need to understand for troubleshooting purposes.

    My boss just signed me up for an ase prep course for a6, my electrical class at school kind of sucked , my prep course date is 5/20 and i got a little less than a month to study. I already own the delmar book but I honestly don't remember much from class, but I know how to use my multimeter to diagnose basic things. They want me to register for the test too so I can take it right after the course. Do you think I can pass if I study for an hour or so a day based off of the delmar book and youtube watching videos on reading schematics? I feel I really lack in reading diagrams as well as diag. I'm already certified in a4 and a5

    • @DriversTherapy
      @DriversTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course but I think you have to put in my time then an hour a day or do some long cramp days. I have some videos that can help you but email me so I can send you those links. I will try to put together a good list. The most important part is knowing how to use a DMM and understand schematics and the charging and starting system. You can also go and shadow someone a shop to trade school. There are many opinions and ways to get that missing knowledge.
