Fall fishing will have some fat fish. Our smaller lakes, rivers, and ponds really need this.

Thanks for this video. This year there will be all seven species of Magicicada present, including the relatively recently-described Magicicada neotredecim, which I collected in 2011 in the Springfield, IL area and plan to do so again this season. By putting the cicadas into a refrigerator, it is possible to keep them alive much longer than normal, and I had one survive to the beginning of August--and posed it alongside a vial in which I had captured a tiny newly-hatched nymph, such that two generations could be "face to face". At 2:31 and 5:05 we can see a periodical cicada that has been attacked by a fungus (Massospora cicadina) that causes the tip of the abdomen to fall off, making the cicada sterile.
I've heard a dog-day cicada (Neotibicen winnemanna) calling as late as midnight in Greensboro, NC--but the presence of bright streetlights and security lighting probably caused it to call much later than normal. I haven't heard other species, such as Megacicada auletes or Neocicada linnei, call that late.

That experiment is absolutely amazing. When you said you had two generations together side by side. That’s incredible man wow!!

@@cameronmarietta4963 Thanks! As far as I know, adults of both Magicicada and the larger "Tibicen" species (now in Neotibicen and Megatibicen within the ranges of the Magicicada species) don't occur at the same time, so it would be interesting to see if I can get some Magicicada to live long enough to be put together with these larger cicadas.

Can’t wait!!! I’m traveling to see Brood XIX probably in Tennessee. That’s the state they’re the most dense in I think. I’ve never seen a 13 year brood! I‘ve traveled to see 17 year broods all over the last 8 years. I’ve been waiting for this specific Brood for many years. 13 year cicada species are a little bit different.

I moved to Nashville a few years ago & now I’m regretting it with all of these insects😅. I do work outside & I love the summer, obviously they do as well, but I can’t stand those things flying into me.
Walk into a store & find out you have one on your sleeve😨🤢. Seeing ppl happy to see them takes away some of my “displeasure” but why couldn’t they be butter flies.
I live an apartment so walking through that corridor is like a horror scene. I’m on a higher level so it’s not as bad as the first floor apartments😮‍💨

We have a senile leader, we have other countries that do not respect us, they laugh at us! Our children are being taught the ways of LGBTQ starting in kindergarten! In just the last two days we have had 228 tornadoes that have completely destroyed towns and lives were lost. We have riots at colleges being done by immigrants! They have closed down, bridges, airports and stormed into congress. Earthquakes in America have tripled. EMP threats on our land. The dollars is sinking. 2024 layoffs and business closings
      Not in America
Israel war that’s escalating, African war, Haiti being taken over by gangs. The dessert got more rain in one day then it does in a year. Wars and rumors of wars. I think a week doesn’t go by without a earthquake in the world of 6.8 or greater.
Tropical storms already forming. I can go on but I’ll stop.
This year will end much differently than it started!
