So many artists lately make it so difficult to listen to access/listen to their music online. Mayer, on the other hand, puts all of his audio tracks on youtube the day Wave 2 is released. You can tell this guy is really all about the music: creating and making sure his art is accessible to as many people as he can. Gotta love Mayer.
The big difference is John is an outstanding LIVE experience. And he and his boys will sell out venues to the guitar heavy Jam fans.
But after listening on TH-cam i had to buy the album 😍 it's so good.

I vividly remember hearing this song mid 2019 with my ex. We both knew our relationship was about to come to an end and as the song continued we held each other’s hand that much tighter. It was just a wave, and all we could do was hold onto one another as long as we could. It’s hard to hear this song but it sure does bring great memories that I’ll hold onto forever..

This song is insane. I spent my entire night going through my death metal/grind playlists for a friend... and then in the morning I was made aware that John had released Wave 2... This song blew me entirely away on first listen, the whole EP did... And then I listened a second time about a half an hour later and it made me cry.

Had my first baby at home and this song was on the playlist I created and I remember exactly the moment it played… “it’s just a wave, and I know that when it comes, I just hold on until it’s gone” and it got me through one of the hardest contractions. I am in labor again today, 2 years later and listening to it over and over again ❤️ I’m ready to meet my new baby. This time my heart is where it’s supposed to be ❤️

This is just a wild guess, but I think it refers to the waves you go through whilst experiencing break up. The falling out of love and rising back from the ashes as a lonely man. I don't know...

Honestly, the lyrics can go either way Summer. No wrong answer. I gravitate to the ocean wave but I feel like the hand wave has more deeper meaning. It holds a moment in time where that person's hand gesture in the wave sets off a flashback or flood of emotion that makes the song. Like a wave (either one) it comes and goes so quick, but you are left with the feeling.
Maybe instead of it being an "emoji" it's actually an emotion(?)

His interviews are on you tube. Swift's "Better Man" has been declared a single author master piece. ROLLING STONE has it on their list of 50 Best Songs for 2016. Jack Antonoff and Taylor wrote "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" for the movie sound track. Zayn and Taylor's recording is # 2 on Billboards Top 100. Probably could have been #1 but her buddy Ed Sheeran has held the top spot for 6 weeks.
Speaking of Ed, John did a solo on ed's song "how would you feel (paen)", Because, and I quote " He's the best guitarist there is, also Eric Clapton said, John Mayer is the "best guitarist alive and produces beautiful music" (UMMM yeah T-swivel never got that). John has collaborated with Crosby, Stills and Nash, wrote with Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and with Frank Ocean, to name a FEW. Look T-swift is good (her country was better) but her break-up songs are "woe is me I'm so innocent"....REALLY? her break up songs are like Nickelback...Terrible, Repetitive and very..very...much likely to be used in Guantanamo for torture. when I first listened to this song (by accident, my phone just shuffled to it while I listened to his essentials), I thought: what a weird song title. and like almost every single song of John's, it pulls me IN and IN and even more IN again. I have listened to this about 30 times since yesterday. It's stuck in my head... the first times I "got it", I cried really hard. now, I feel at peace. the way he arranged this song gives me goosebumps and fills my heart with love. It's like the sweetest lullaby you never wanna stop listening to. while he clearly expresses pain, it's oh so soothing. this song feels like a hug. a 4 minute hug.
