- Hanukkah is coming to an end and I need to clean my menorah before putting it away until next year. In this video I test out three different methods for cleaning. To my delight, all of them worked, but I did have a favorite.
* A viewer said her ceramic menorah came out great at 190 degrees for 20 mins.

I put a coat of Olive oil on mine before I used it to keep the wax from sticking to it.

Will the paper towel not catch on fire in the oven?
Wouldn’t that make it more flammable?
No. It’s not hot enough for the paper towel to burn. Just like you can use parchment paper in the oven.
Pouring boiling water over the menorah works well too, if it’s made of metal!

The oven method is amazing! I used Q-tips to clean out the candle holders while it was still warm . It was a breeze!
Baking the menorah for 15 mins at 200 was an awesome life hack!! 30 years of wax... gone!

If I have a wax spill in hard to reach places I use a hair dryer and paper towel, I find it's much easier to get the job done!
Love all of the ideas though, I never would have thought to use the freezer! 💕🤯💯

I put our menorahs in the sink with hot water brush it off. Simple easy

Yup, easiest and fastest way there is. Also put something in the sink to prevent melted wax from going down the drain. Works like a charm.

Thank you, this is just what I was looking for. I used the oven method and it was SO easy. I bent a paperclip and cleaned out the candle holders very easily. It looks better than it has in years.

The oven method was so great. My Menorah had YEARS of wax on it and it is intricate in its design. The oven heat just got everything off, or a gentle wipe clean. I was so impressed. Thank you!

Great video, thank you. I cleaned a clear acrylic Hanukiah using the hairdryer because the other solutions would not work. Hair dryer and soft cloth did the trick! Thank you!
Nice tips! I'm gonna try than hair dryer one, because my metal Chanukah menorah has some piece of velvet on the bottom of the lamp stand. Last year I used boiled water and finished cleaning with essential oil, any one will do, eucalyptus, orange, mint or lavender - anything! The oil will make the menorah shiny with nice scent and it will clean all the remainings of the candle wax away. Chag Chanukah Sameach 5784 for everyone

Do the oils make the menorah smell nice like lavender or orange? I have those oils. But I’ve never used them to clean anything. I DO have a cleaning essential oil (eucaptus oil,) that is meant 2 mix with water to clean. Which type are you referring to? It wd be comforting to have menorah smell like lavender🤗
Thumbs up on the oven at 200F for 15 minutes! I then used a Q-Tip to clean the inside of each candle holder. Our menorah hasn't looked this good in years.
I tried to clean the wax off my menorah with scraping it with a knife, not a good idea. I found your post and I tried the oven method a it works great my menorah is beautiful again. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
The toaster oven also worked great for me and then I cleaned out each of the candle holders with a Q-tip which was wonderful. Thank you and Happy Chanukah~

I have tried the freezer, it is quite good. But I had to take off a lot of wax remaining with a knife. The two other methods are really good. Thank you so much for the tips.
I used my small blow dryer on my plastic menorah, and it worked very nicely. Mostly, I could wipe it off and in certain areas I used my fingernail and it just came right off. Thanks so much for the tips!

I've been putting mine in a stock pot of boiling water (which, if you put it in cold and let it come up to temp slowly should be safe for glass and harder plastics). But it's slow. I will try the oven method.

I have a rather intricate menorah. I’m using the oven method now. It’s quite even so I added a loaf pan to raise the bottom so it drains. Fingers crossed (9 years worth of wax lol)!!!

Do you have to put a paper towel on the Reynold's wrap when you put it in the oven? I thought just putting the Reynold's wrap would be good enough.

Yes, the oven method worked perfectly. One thing NOT to do (which I did): think you can wear gloves and wipe the wax off the menorah with rags, without getting the gloves covered in wax. I had to discard them. Thanks.
I’m not jewish, but just purchased some used brass candelabras and they have a ton of wax build up! I love the idea of the oven! What a great idea! Will definitely try! Thanks for sharing! Just a question - can you use the candle drip plates on the menorahs? This would definitely cut your work in half! Thanks!
I don’t see why you couldn’t use drip plates. Hanukkah candles tend to be fairly small and thin and not super drippy. The tradition is that you’re supposed light them after the sun goes down and let them burn all the way out.
I put mine in the dishwasher with 1.5 cups vinegar a few DROPS of Dawn, wash it, and it comes out sparkling-clean.

I want to try the oven one by my menorah has a stone on it and I don’t know what the heat could do to it? If anyone has advice if I should do it. I would appreciate it. Happy Hanukkah! 🕎

Boiling water takes it right off
I got my mother the most beautiful menorah. It's tiny and made of sterling silver filigree -- really one of a kind (like my mother). The only candles small enough are birthday candles and naturally, they don't last very long. But the wax after just this one Channukah is formidable and I can't find anywhere on the net how to get wax off of silver filigree. The problem is that it's so delicate. I'd be scared to put it in the oven. The freezer method would require me to chip away at it vigorously, so that's out. The hair dryer method might work, but even when the wax melts in the heat, it leaves a film that's hard to deal with. Any ideas?
Recently I’ve seen people dip their menorahs in a pot of very hot water.
I've read on another site (specific to sterling silver elaborate candle stick cleaning, which is a walk in the park compared to a Channukiah) that very hot water is harmful to sterling silver, and don't do it. On the other hand, they also said don't you dare use paper towels because they're rough and can damage the very delicate sensibilities of silver. If you want to find it (and often even if you don't) you can find anything and everything on the net. I think I'm in bind with this miniature menorah. It really is tiny. Maybe three inches or less wide. The hair dryer method might work if I'm careful not to soften the metal. I don't think I have the, "just let it build up it's beautiful," option because any amount of build up with this little jewel and we won't even be able to see it. But I'm going to go through very carefully monitored attempts at all methods you mentioned. You provide a special gift of information (AKA: a mitzvah). Thanks
I clean my silver with hot water and baking soda and thin foil, it works great.
May have already been posted, but only problem with the oven method as described here is that paper towels in the oven is generally considered not a great idea, regardless of the temperature.
I put mine in a metal bowl, and poured boiling water on it.
Use a toothpick to clean cups
Just pour hot water over it, it will work🎉.
