As long as I started playing GW they said the game was dying, I'm talking probably 15 years ago, if not longer.

I just started playing gw2. I don't see any problem when it comes to ppl
I started to play it in 2005 and after Eye of the North got released the voices saying that the game was dead became louder and louder.
It was still very active and alive until 2012, though when GW2 was released.
For me personally this was the final nail in the coffin of the game. After GW2 was released I also quit because the playerbase shrinked so hard that only the very few who just didn't want to let go remained.

I think GW1 is the greatest MMO of all time but it does seem like they’re getting closer and closer to getting rid of it. I wish they would just make GW3 identical to GW1 in every way just adding new maps

Lol, GW2 is way better in every aspect. GW1 is a really good game, but it shouldn't be considered as a MMO in every aspect.
im pretty sure the devs have said that the cost of keeping the servers running is so minor that they wont be closing them. and tbh. they are still making good money off gw1
@@ROCKNROLL947 Better in every aspect is a bit of a joke. The games can barely even be compared as I don't even consider them the same genre. It would be like comparing call of duty, to minecraft.
Better in build diversity/theory crafting? Absolutely not. Better in PvP? Also no, although I like GW2's WvW a lot and while GW2 has a better combat system it's not exactly fun to go into a PvP match with 10 people, and 60% of the lobby is running the same necro/guardian meta build. Better in PvE? I guess, thats more of a preference thing though, I find GW2's PvE mind numbingly boring (probably because its designed for the lowest of players to be able to do the content) I do like raids though. Better in guild content? What a fucking joke lol.
GW2 is a good MMO that has much wider appeal than GW1, however it is an AWFUL GW1 sequel.
Yea i personally enjoyed Guild Wars 1 more than 2. Loved all the cool farming locations in that game and limited skill slots.
Hi, guild wars isn't dying in fact it got a massive influx of new players recently.
The fact that kamadan is more empty now is because the community helps those new players, and thus are fewer in kamadan.

I suggest reading the comments from DrStephenCW during Wintersday, it will explain why this has occured.
Something in the Wintersday event causes huge CPU spikes; I reduced the number of players in each district to minimize the odds of this happening
It's hardly a BIG problem in Guild Wars. They may even revert it if/when they fix the issue that causes game lag from Wintersday. Someone did reply to Dr Stephen's comment asking if it could be reverted now Wintersday is over. Maybe they're trying to put a proper fix in place.
This is not a problem at all. This was a fix implemented over Wintersday to deal with network issues. I don’t see how this is preventing players from trading. If the district is full the other player comes to you. It’s a keyboard press and a mouse click. It’s not a big deal. Peace.
What about for larger alliances that hold parties in towns during events or things like CNY coming up where guilds will host districts for all players? Now people need to host twice the amount of districts. It's a fix that causes other problems as a side effect. They should have only reduced it by 25% at the most. 50% cut in district size is way too much.

@@RyuDouro You're missing the point. I'm in an alliance that typically has parties for the alliance on holidays with trivia, giveaways, etc, and at these events we have more than 50 people come. It's also making trading a lot more difficult because the trade chat only shows up in the party search window for the district you're in. You literally need to zone through districts to spam trades. On top of that, now GTOB has a 2nd district constantly that there are only a couple people in and a lot of people group there for zaishen things. Just because you don't interact with the community doesn't mean that nobody else does.

Came back to this video now that Cantha new year is happening... Events definitely feel different now with the reduced district sizes. I loved seeing a giant pile on the 9 rings but now it just feels empty and less alive.
haven't had any lag issues myself but missed Wintersday this year for the first time ever. Kinda bummed about it but RL got in the way. Surprised this game is still available for us really, given the age of the game and other newer games that ANet are also supporting.
Zero lag for me last 2 weeks ... A bit of lag on Wintersday, but not bad. Not really worried about the lower player cap per district. I don't engage all that much with the economy, don't really think it's such a big deal. People will adjust. I'll tell you when you need to start worrying about the game dying, when they delist it from their store and stop selling it. A company would only do something like that if they were planning to pull the plug soon.
I absolutely love gw1. I pretty much grew up on this and Runescape back in the day....
BUT, this game is 20ish years old. It hasn't updated since roughly the launch of GW2 aside from small fixes. The 2 comparable games I can think of that are this old and still have a playerbase are Maplestory and WoW, and those 2 still have big content updates to this day.
The fact that a game without content updates for about 10 years is still alive today is a testament to how awesome this game really is.
Props to Anet for keeping the servers up for GW1. If it were any other company, this game would have been pulled offline years ago.
I mean, GW has held for far longer than most of us expected imo. Sooner or later it's bound to dwindle down, and I thonl we're stsrting to descend the slope.

This is the biggest issue I have with arena net games I have to contend with a ping over 200 due to my location in the world sinve they refuse to put servers anywhere near its pretty much nigh unplayable.
That's what's happen when a game just stays the way it is and don't really implying any features for the past ten years or so.
Something i always wanted was some sort of world were you can traverse back into how the game was during it's alpha & beta era.
I bought gw1 last year, never worked; they told me my account do not exist when I tried to log after purchase... This account does exists and works for Gw2... I tried everything for a month; nothing to fix it. I paid that game for nothing... They stole my money... I am even more poor, and those bastards are even more rich... Miserable...

Would be nice if there was at least someone from ArenaNet who still cared about the game.
I mean... all things must come to an end. Old school halo servers, CoD servers. Eventually the same will happen to GW1. Hopefully not anytime soon as there's a lot of time invested in accounts and characters. Sadly it will happen. Whether nuclear war comes first, or the destruction of the servers.
Arena net said that they will keep the servers online forever because they don't consume much ressources. And they said it back in 2012.
@@JackoBanon1 They did not asay "forever" but "as long as GW2 is up"... should come to a simmilar result tho, as GW2 is doing marvelously fine.

Because all in game trading is done via Trade chat, which is limited to just people in the active district you are in this, this is a problem. If Kama is full of Gold selling website advertising bots, then the already small number of players are spread even further out. This is making it very challeging to find a trading match via the In game trade chat.
Kama trade chat would resolve the problem if worked on every district in the game, not only first American one, if I remember correctly.

@@Vividxful Well if you tried to play during Wintersday you'd know that Kamadan was COMPLETELY unusable and would just freeze your game unless you played in an alternative district.
I just think Dr. S never was allowed or had time to reverse his fix yet off winterdays. It worked, but that was to fix something critical. A QOL update is different now. Everyone going nuts about this should at least consider that point.
@@JMGaming121 Played everyday of it. It's not the lag from people but poor servers on top the events going on. So, fixing the server for things we have a few times a year is one way. But now we luck out the rest of the year when playing.

They changed the # of players per instance for CPU/server lag ... better responsiveness... If people want to trade? There's a website for that.

Well its 2024 and the game is still going.. but honestly as long as i can play solo im fine with no one playing.. i dont PvP so soloing is still great and the best way to play all games in my opinion..

I tried playing it just yesterday and it kept lagging for me despite having a gaming pc.
I thought my pc was fuckdd lol so I turjt down the graphics nd still was nd my delay on hitting was bad aswell glad to know it wasn't my pc
I had Lag issues even tho high FPS and stable connection. But then I turned on "Wait for Vertical Sync" everything´s fixed. Most random bug ever

Hey man i'm looking for coming back on gw 1. I played since propheties and for 48 month (5800hours) in top 100 gvg 10 year ago ( la résistance française {57}).
I'm this kind of players who have been disappointed by GW2 and Never find another mmo liké this. For me gw IS the best game i Never played.

Yes a lot are still playing gw1. PvP isn't as active as it used to but still guilds doing it and players. UW, FoW, Deep, Urgoz, etc. occur a lot yes,.
these lags happen from time to time, its not the first time and it will not be the last. But dont ask me why they happen :D

I have friends who got banned back in 2010 because they used farming bots 24/7 and asked the support a few years ago to unban them and give them their old account back.
So yeah, if you still have all the nevessary information then the devs are very helpful to let you play this old game with your old account again.
I have 2 accounts. One is an old email addy , that was only for my second acct. I was able to verify and update my 2nd account and not I have both again. I love GW !! So many great times !!!

It's definitely a very low population game, and is infact near dead. I see more bots than active players, most are afk in Kamadan, or are trolls that run around spam trading, thats the few I see. Alot of good things can be said about Guild Wars 1, however it definitely has its share of problems, and lack of creativity, and I understand it is an old game. End conclusion, I doubt the servers will be shut down, and hopefully other people will try the game out.
Yeah, it's been like that for years and years nothing new. You could tell everyone standing around was either a bot or perpetually AFK. They'd be in the same spot for months or years straight 24/7 lmao. I wouldn't be surprised if there were only a few hundred to 1000 actual active recurrent players.
They probably have cut resources. And honestly when i log in i never see more the a dozen people. Give them a bit of time to optimize what they have done. It will be ok.

Nope. In fact they could have increased resources to fix the lag problem except resources weren't the issue. There is a bug/problem during Wintersday that causes lag in certain maps.
Back in 2012 Arenanet promised that they will keep the servers alive forever because it doesn't take much ressources. Let's see if they will keep their word.
I havent played in years. But i can only imagine that it is nerfed to hell. Last time i played there were barely anyone playing
Last time I tried was 2019. It was pretty dead back then and I gave up after a few days.
I can only imagine how bad it is now.
Between 2005 - 2008 it was the best time to experience this game and I will never forget this time in my life. So many great memories, fun guild members to play with and stuff to explore together.
After 2008 the game just became a 'GW is dead' meme.

@@riplix20 What made GW1 so special for me was the perfect mix of casual and competitive content in PVE and PVP. A big part of the PVP experience is dead by now and the meta is so optimated that you play more effectively with a group of bots with the right hero builds than with real people. So yeah, it's basically the single player experience and only a skelleton of it used to be once. If you still enjoy it for nostalgic reasons then I can totally get it but for me a big part of the game was the daily life with the guild members and doing different things together everyday which is kind of gone now.
This game has become a place for a very small clique of real gamers. 80% of accounts are bots. For the rest you can't join groups if you don't have tons of conset AND if you don't know by heart the interesting places like the FoWsc, UWsc, all the SCs things generally speaking. Not only to mention that no fails is admited, so "newbies" arn't welcome. Soon there will only be bots talking to bots in GW1. What a fun for real GW1 has become... Despite what are saying all these old geeks, yes this game is like dead or soon to. In this context what can be the interest of playing such a game it for "real" people?
The game has been at the end of its life span for many years already so it's natural that only the old geeks who played it 24/7 when it was active are still around.

Unfortunately a lot of the time I have available to play I cannot dedicate enough of my attention to actually playing through content and can only sell/buy in Kamadan.
Then by the time I can put my full attention into the game, no one else is playing.
I do actually find many active players even in places I would least expect it..
Totally disagree, i could all the time play with some guys. A lot of groups forming in discords. I would only agree that is hard to find somebody ingame except for daily's. Join in the big guild wars discord communities.
