As an army vet of the Vietnam War who was severely wounded by mortar fire in 1969, may God bless all those wonderful women who saved the lives of 'kids' like me. I'm glad I can finally say, 'Thank you.'
I was in I Corp 1968 1969 and I remember two of these women visiting our battalion in April of 69. It was great to have these women visit us. I saw very few women in my military days in South Vietnam that were from USA or English speaking background. My unit was 5-1-11 Infantry. We traveled to South Vietnam in July 1968 as a unit from Ft. Carson, Colorado
@Sabrina Murphy I don't know of any celebrations of the war we fought in south Vietnam. Our leaders of that time told us that we should help our allies (south Vietnam). The reality of the war was our president at that time LBJ micro managed the huge portion of the bombing campaign therefore much the bombing was not not effective in stopping the aggression from north Vietnam. If the bombing campaign had been correctly managed the agression from north Vietnam would have been stopped in six months. What really happened was LBJ micro managed the bombing selecting the bombing targets. Unfortunately most of the bombing targets were not the real military targets. The reality of the war was fought similarly to the war in Afghanistan. The enemy was allowed to leave the battlefield and go to a safe place and our military was prevented from pursuing the enemy. It was just a mess the planning and execution of the war poorly handled. Afghanistan was the same poorly planned and executed. Both wars we allowed approximately 200 billion dollars of military supplies to fall into the hands of the enemy. There were definitely no celebrations at the close of either war.
Lol I'm here because the other day I thought no American women at all were there. Women really didn't have the door wide open for us yet during this. Like she said though, we've come a long way. We really have. Thank you for your sacrifice, everyone. It probably slowed down communism quite a bit. We probably can never measure that kind of thing exactly. I do not want to keep trying to bring democracy to other nations. I wouldn't give 1 American soldier for a million democratic strangers. We should take care of our own better. And yes, I'm speaking about American soldiers. Let's not keep doing this. Every one is a sacrifice of their life (even if they don't die they are still massively affected) that we should send into danger only in the most dire of situations.
I admit, I didn't quite see the entire vietnam war doc, but it seemed that they didn't mention the vietnam nurses and there are the names of 8 female nurses on the wall in washington, dc. I don't recall any mention of the "donut dollies".
My first big battle when I got to Vietnam with the 173rd airborne brigade was to secure an SF compound for an impending attack. As a young paratrooper I was pumped for battle. Well ,all of a sudden a flight of Huey’s came in loaded with Red Cross girls ( donut Dollie’s to us ) for a night of partying and whatever. They left the next morning. We were in reality securing a potential orgy. At that point I had to admire SF tactics 😂
@Sabrina Murphy How many military went to Vietnam on their own accord? We went because the government sent us. You have no idea what I did other than serving my country. You must love being so angry. Bet those who exist near you celebrate you!

Our MountainGuard troops lived and ate with us. On top of The Black Virgin Mountain we all, US, ARVN, AUSSIE ROKS shared the Pagoda for everything., Do not know where you get you’re incorrect bullshit from, but it is totally wrong.

I gave a few of these women a ride in my jeep while in Bien Hoa. They were not nice to me. All they wanted is to find military Officers to mess around with. I'm sure there were good one around, but I did not find any.
That was my experience also. I served in a helicopter unit, A 2/20 aerial rocket artillery "blue max" which operated at Tay Ninh base camp. The doe-nut dollies visited us 3 times and spent most of it with the officers. They barely gave the enlisted men the time of day.
I’m sorry you don’t feel you can Salute our Flag Miss., but America tried to do the right thing. The guy squeezing the blood bag was not properly trained, or just didn’t get it. We are not all meant to be medical technicians. He may have been better qualified as a door gunner, or mechanic, but certainly an officer. He sounds like an officer waiting to be trained to give orders!

A grand total of 600 military girls served in Vietnam, all were nurses. One was KIA
