I play at warhammer world, I was told I couldn't use the head on my imperial knight as it was one from Taromodelmaker. . I snap the fully painted head off along with all the weapons, try to rush painting the new stuff and mess it up, wreck half the parts snapping them, cancel my trip as too much of a crap mood to go. . . I stick on the laptop and the first thing I see is an official post from Warhammer World showing Taromodelmakers parts and the exact head I got told I couldn't use on a Cerastus Knight with them commenting about how cool it was. . . I agree and disagree. GW is a company that needs to sell minis. I have no idea their financials but I would assume the vast majority of profits come from the minis, which would obviously be an issue for them. If there was 0 issue with printing the stuff they create - what is the need of the company? It’s a double edged sword to which I don’t know the magic recipe for. The best example I can think is Magic or Pokémon. If you could just literally print out your deck, what do you think the impact would be for them as a company? Id be willing to bet if we cut GW profits by over half, we probably wouldn’t get better content.
That being said, I’m sure there is SOMETHING they can do to get money from people printing.

When Codex: Armaggadon came out with the Speed Freeks army list, I changed their bases (GorkaMorka bases are tiny, so ya can get more boyz in da wagoons) and they were identical to the boyz GW released in 3rd ed.

The GorkaMorka boyz were different. They were between the design of 2nd edition and 3rd edition; less weedy than 2nd but not as 'uge as 3rd. The grot design from Gorkamorka carried over into the 3rd edition range as did a few of the nob models and the Mechboyz, but the Shoota and Slugga Boyz were all new models for the 3rd Edition codex. The Gorkamorka Deffcopta and Biker kits were fairly close in look to the 3rd stuff and didn't stand out as "wrong" in a 3rd+ mob.

Well especially when it comes to factions the the Guard. Right now you can only buy Chadians, Catachan and Steel Legion directly from GW. Death Korps of Kreig you can buy and but its Forge World. If you want to be charitable that makes four sub-factions supported to varying degrees. I like the Steel Legion so.... yeah, barely supported. This leaves out the Tallaran, Valhallan, Vostroyan, and the Mordian sub factions unsupported in models but not rules. That would be okay if you could just slap an upgrade kit on them like with some of the space marines, but the guard looks way too different. So right now the only option you have is to paint your Cadians in different colors.
Lets not even get into the custom Chaos bits that have been printed that are great and unsupported. GW has shown they can nail it with the Death Guard refresh. GW has to realize that players don't want to wait for them to take years or decades to getting around to refreshing their line.

GW's 3d print rule is more so just insulting. Their events aren't the biggest, they aren't the best and the majority of people apart of their hobby will never go to Britain anyways, but it's more just the fact they said it. Like 20 years ago 'Eavy Metal featured a hobbyist made land speeder that was made out of a deodorant stick and were all like "This is creative goodness that makes our hobby better than anything else, we love you guys!" and now they're kind of just killing that creativity in a medium that gives every kind of hobbyist the ability to have individualistic armies and for creators to share their passions. My biggest gripe with them putting their foots down on shit like this is where does it end? Am I a bad guy if I sculpt an ultima with green stuff? Maybe if I paint a winged blood drop? Why not after all?
Of course this is all rendered moot when they ask you if you have any 3d printed bits and you just say "no", lying does in fact exist, gas lighting is a real thing and I do recommend using it in such cases. Plus I'm sure most dudes who work for GW that run these events probably don't give a shit if you do use 3d printed bits, they just need you to say that you aren't using 3d so they can cover their asses, they're not going to ask you to strip the paint from your minis

It's the same with all entertainment companies. There is a 20-30 year period when they are new and excited to have a fanbase create stuff based on their work. Then the old guard leaves or retires, and the new bosses see only profit. Sometimes this happens with the old man still in charge.

To a certain extend you can understand GW copyright laws in the 80s and 90s where different then they are now and you could get away with more, without risking loosing your IP.
Things are different now so to keep your ip, you need to be protective of your ip or risk loosing it.

They have their own transfer sheet, they have upgrade kits and even a dedicated tactical squad kit, so if I decide to paint on a blood drop am I breaking the law? @@southaussielad2496 And there it is.
Can you actually tell a 3D printed fully painted model from a cast fully painted 3D model?
If no well good luck trying to ever prove that this is a 3D printed mini and not a converted or official GW mini.
From what i can read this sounds more like a rule that says officially we don´t allow 3D printed models at our events and stores, unofficially we don´t really care much.
If it looks official enough we will accept it 9,9 times out of 10 times.
Heck GW more or less says so with their little side notes that if you sculpt 3D printed parts yourself it will be accepted.
The only way to ever truly be on the relatively safe side that the models each player bring to the table, would be to demand that you make an account on GWs main page and that each store selling GW products, must register your purchases on your GW account.
So that GW can check that you actually bought the models you are bringing from them, such if you bring a 2000pts Daugther´s of Khaine or Drukhari army, well GW can check and see that each of these models where indeed bought at GWs store.
It would take a LONG time and would basically alienate most of the guys (if not some staff members too) showing up to play at GWs tournaments, but at least they would be certain.

Those are the already established warhammer world rules. However, GW did also announce this packet when it comes to the 3 big tournaments they are putting on in the US. Still not a huge deal IMO, but there are definitely some people that wanted to go that cant because their army doesnt meet the requirements. Also, its on you to prove you sculpted it. Its not on games workshop to prove you are lying so 'pics or it didnt happen' might become a real thing. 99% of people are not going to be affected by this. Its only Warhammer world and the 3 GW major GT's in the next 6 months.
Its definitely more serious than youre saying, but not as serious as everyone else is saying. Love the content. Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing those stormtroopers painted up!

After the initial novels, you can basically pick and choose, read whatever you want without missing any cohesive story, but if you read them all, you get to see all the details.

I've got that old orc box set, half painted. If you want to energise the poses of some of your boyz just twist the torsos to one side when putting them into the hips, to tilt the line of the shoulders. A small thing, but really helps add some dynamism to a waved axe or prowling pose. And don't always have your minis looking down the sights of a leveled gun. Point the gun and head in different directions sometimes, aim the gun at the floor or sky as though they're posing for a poster. 😆

Maybe if GW didn't want people using 3D printed or recasts they should ensure you can build an army. At the moment loads of items for all armies are out of print, can only be gained through box sets (that are sold out or out of print) or paying over double for scalped minis.

i think that every book in the horus heresy is worth reading. every book is different except the first 4, which are pretty much about horus. after that its a different story in the same setting and time of the heresy era. so you are not reading something coherent like harry potter. its more a collection of good books in the same setting. read them. most of them are great and interesting. i had some which i found personally not so interesting. one of my favourite books is Legion. Just give them a try. you can always stop reading them as they are not a single story. you can even mix the order you read them in (except the first 4)

The film eventually made its way into the $0.50 theatre near school so my roommate and I went and saw it whenever there wasn't anything else to do. Well, guess I need to tell the story about how I met Quentin Tarantino.
I was working security at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2006, and was in the preview room. He had just done his presentation on "Grindhouse" and it was between segments, and I was stationed in a hall to make sure no one unauthorized went out into the loading bay, as there was also a set of bathrooms there. I see the doors to the bay open, and sees there's a bit of a line for the bathrooms, so he decided to chat me up a bit while waiting. Quite the animated talker, and was quite impressed that I was in the Marines at the time. Asked me what I thought of the preview, if I had seen any of his stuff, things like that for about 5 minutes or so until the line went down, then he went in. Was quite the interesting person.

After I saw the new rules for using (or not) parts from third parties at Warhammer World I decided that I would actually ask why this had been done. The manager of my local store said that it is most likely to do with copyright. Events at Warhammer World are photographed for use on their social media and GW don't want to risk copyright claims from other manufacturers for showing images of their parts. That's why using parts you made yourself is fine, by turning up at the event you grant permission for them to photograph your army and post images online.
At least my Squat Imperial Guard army would still be allowed. I'm sure GW would love me turning up at Warhammer World with that.

to be Honest, the comparison between the 3 (6) books of LotR and HH is not realy fair. As the Horus Herecy covers so mutch of the time leading to the acuall event, as well as all of the important Caractes Backstorys (18 Primarches + Malcador + Valdor, Emps and MORE) you kind of have to compare it to ALL of the Tolkien works. LotR is sowant of the Siege of Terra part, the Event that all lead up to, and then you are in a similar span of books (kind of).
