Spock's Beard threw a 'surprising' musical curveball here, with yet another supremely-talented singing drummer receiving the cherished golden ticket to boldly front the band for a tune. Kudos!!
This brings me to tears... Tears of excstay, excitement, desire to go on adventure somewhere, riding horses and playing hide and seek as a little boy.. When everything is back in its place, think I'll do all this and a lot more!
Spock's beard, I can't begin to say enough about the years with Neil Morris.. But I feel like it was left and very capable and talented hands Nick D, Virgil.. I really enjoyed the albums that he sang on as well as the rest of the albums in the past.. I I do so much wish I could build a time machine I can relate thank you everyone.. Know matter where he's at let's wish Nick happiness and success peace and love everyone..
Same here, I think it's a lot due to the vocals here. Nice brit pop sound to it to. Apart from that, this song reminds me Pink Floyd's Point me at the Sky
@@fabienvalmor1568 Agreed, but the mandolin sold me on the song before the vocals even started. I believe Jimmy sang this song, and it tells me that he needs to sing more.
Wow, Jimmy can totally handle lead vocals. Great hooks in this one. Love that SB is still writing songs with strong, catchy melody as well as heavier/epic stuff. The combo of the two is always what made them so interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Can't wait to hear the whole new album!
Love this song, but I gotta hear a sequel. Did Bennett's time machine work? Was he able to go back to the right place and time- New York 1983. Did he fix his mistakes? I gotta know these things.
Well done! Added to the Best of 2015 Rock & Alternative & the Main Progressive Rock Playlist for 2000 to 2015...Also shared with my World United Music network.
One of my top favourite songs from The Oblivion Particle. Really accessible et strong melody, yet featuring tricky arrangements... and it's fun, joyful... Who said prog had to be always serious and solemn ?
Mark Kleijwegt : 1983 Bennet here....It’s totally righteous, Dude. I should have known that chick was bad news. Glad I don’t have to go through that melodrama again. Oh yeah, and I bought one million shares of Apple.
Top work once again, guys. While albums 6-10 (Snow-X) will always be my personal favourites, Ted has integrated into the band well, and the new material is reminiscent of the old whilst showing progression. With songs like this and 'Submerged' from the previous album, I will remain a huge fan. The melodies in this particular song remind me of Electric Light Orchestra. Hopefully I'm picking up on an influence? The only thing that makes this song a 9/10 for me, instead of a 10, is the lack of a more 'traditional' guitar solo during the minor break, but that's just a subjective, personal quibble. I think Alan is one of the most under-rated guitarists of our time. 'From the Darkness' from X remains my favourite 16 minutes of music in the universe.
Mr. Vaudeville wow Snow-X as your favorite period? That's a very rare opinion haha most would say the Neal albums (The Light-Snow) are their favorite. And though I mostly agree with that I do like the tracks from Feel euphoria-Self titled. But I'd say X to the newly released Noise Floor is the second best Era for the Beard.
This is a lyric about regret, when you think about it. At the same time, maybe it's about the acceptance that you can't live a PERFECT life because you don't know what's in store, so maybe you shouldn't beat yourself up about it. They certainly know who they're playing for--Middle American guys with names like "Bennett Lamb" who were teenagers in 1983. I can just about picture him in 1983.
I must say that Neal Morse departing Spock's Beard was truly a win-win situation. Both Neal and SB started making better music, and both have created awesome, divine stuff!
Totally agree! It's like when Nabisco followed the Oreo cookie with the double-stuft Oreo cookie, but better! One awesome band morphed into two awesome bands!
Bryce Christian Lowry No this is not the same kind of bass playing as Rush, and yes Geddy Lee is great. So is Jaco Pastorius but he also doesn't play like that.
+Casey Van Actually, Rush is a major influence for Spock's Beard, particularly for the bassist it seems. No, it's not the same, because good musicians have their own style. But there's some Ged in there for sure.
Bryce Christian Lowry I agree. I've been listening to Beard since 'In the Light'. He has an even more growly bass sound than anyone I know. I was talking about the notes he was playing, not the tone, although the tone is somewhat Yes like. I always thought he sounded closest to the Kansas bass player though. Normally I don't hear Yes in the bass playing more like Kansas, or Rush, but this one is more like Yes that's why I said that.
Bennett Lamb's been holed up in his shack Working ever patiently Clocks are ticking Bennett's headed back to New York, 1983 To meet himself as a younger man Show the teenage him a perfect plan The stocks to buy girls not to date He knows the way to reinvent his future Un-make mistakes, un-seal his fate He's going back to change his choices Guided by his inner voices Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine Bennett Lamb's been five days wide awake He scrawled out every thought he had Complex calculations he did make All single-spaced on legal pads He won't return to watch Babe Ruth To head off Mao or John Wilkes Booth To warn good people in the past Of earthquakes, locust plagues or insurrection There's just one die he wants recast He's going back to change his choices Guided by his inner voices Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine He's going back to change his choices Guided by his inner voices Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine Visions that he'd seen Bennett built a time machine
Brian Cherry It also reminds me of "East of Eden, West of Memphis", a really fun, upbeat song with a great instrumental break with a different tone, although think this segue is a lot less jarring. Love both songs, though.
To be honest love this song because it's Jimmy Keegan handling lead vocals. That's why it's giving it the Nick feel to the song. I love Ted Leonard's voice, but find it too similar between Enchant and Spock's with no separation or distinction between the two bands. Still great music, just being nit picky. This song is a nice departure and now that the band has their official back fill singer, coincidentally a drummer also, one never knows.
***** Yeah, there's a strong Enchant vibe with Ted's vocals (and some songs have been written by him so it's no wonder) but I think there's great compositional differences between the Beard and Enchant.
+Moshugaani No doubt there is as far as song writing but I just thought this was a nice change with Jimmy singing lead. Love Ted's voice but sometimes when you start listening to him between different bands he fronts like Enchant and Thought Chamber it just seems to run together.
yeah, I don't feel this one. It sounds so much like Nick. Seems like a step back after their last album. Not to be rude - I just don't think I like most of Stan Ausmus' songs as much as the rest. Around 3:20, we get very Yes-ish, and I really do enjoy that!
This isn't one of Stan's songs. John Boegehold wrote this. Fascinating that you hear a similarity to Nick. His voice is very round and warm. Mine is much more piercing. But I'm singing in my lower range for a lot of it. I sometimes wonder if people hear a similarity due to that fact that I sang so much on the "X" record. Not lead, just background parts. It could be a subliminal thing. Anyway, no worries. No rule that says you have to like them all. Thanks for listening.
Ok, this makes more sense. It didn't sound like Ted' does on some other songs. I don't dislike the vocals. I did wonder if he sang on that song. I didn't realize you were on X - very cool. As for the Stan comment, that's just me mis-reading the wiki page. I remember listening to Genesis, and trying to figure out who wrote the songs, and looking on the record jacket and seeing that Phil wrote the poppy songs, and Mike wrote the love songs, and Tony wrote... the prog stuff. I don't dislike this. It just doesn't grab me until the 3:20. But then I heard Tides of Time and it blew me away (an actual Stan song... lol). On another note... I'm very sad to hear you are moving on. Thanks so much for your reply!
You know he really didn’t build a real time machine , right? He’s just fucking crazy. Probably made it out of a cardboard box and duck tape. But....he truly believes it will work🤪

Love Jimmy's voice...Hope he will sing more songs in the future!
this is still my favorite SB song
Stunning....absolutely stunning. Like the band.
Jimmy Keegan lead vocals on this song, one of the best songs i've heard in a couple of years...
I could have sworn that was Nick's voice... TIL
Love the thick bass and production in this. One of their best songs, IMHO.
great song, great album, great band!!!!!! love these guys!
Ok how badass at the end the final piano notes were 12 symbolizing a clock 12 hours thats just badass
Just got the disc, this is one of the best Beard tracks out there. I just can't stop listening to it.

You are correct in every word.

i think you the rest of the album for that. like, the booklet basically say the whole album is the whole story.

Who is listening to this in 1983?
LOL

I went back to 1977, starting things differently with what I know better.

Aah...lovely!
Totally looking forward to seeing SB live later this year!
I saw them yesterday evening. They were fantastic live and this song was particularly great. They are much better live than they are on record.
Absolutely love this track.
I know I like this new album, really enjoying the song heck yes Spock's beard back nice..
It's band I was always able to get behind.. right on..
Excelente tema. Con espíritu progresivo y sinfónico. Clásico y moderno al mismo tiempo. Felicitaciones Spocks Beard!
I love these guys. Such a great song. Cant wait for the new album to be released!
Fantastic!!!!!

That's some seriously chunky bass...love where they're going with this one!
Amazing!!! I love this song!!!
This is a melodic progressive song with exciting instrumentation. It's stunning!
Best song on the album!!
Amazing video and of course a killer song.
Amazing as always! 100 % quality!
This is a fantastic video!
can't wait to see them Glasgow this Oct.
Love this band
never listened to these guys b4..i really like this song
Love this song!
Beautiful! For me sounds like Ayreon.
+Arjen Anthony Lucassen You're awesome! ^^
I'm going to have to build a time machine to go back and stop myself from getting this stuck in my head!

love this tune.... can hear the Gilmour-ish influence there....
Superb!
I haven't heard bass like that since some early Yes. Great stuff.
That's true, many influences from prog bands, Genesis, Yes, Kansas. Not a bad thing at all, and they do it very tastefully and originally.
+Casey Van Then you missed the boat! Rush has had the chunkiest bass for forty years!
Bryce Christian Lowry No this is not the same kind of bass playing as Rush, and yes Geddy Lee is great. So is Jaco Pastorius but he also doesn't play like that.

Man first 15 seconds sound awesome, don't want to listen to the whole thing quite yet though seeing as the album's only coming out in 6 days!
If " something very strange " was the best song of the before album, this one is the best of the new!
Bennett Lamb's been holed up in his shack
Working ever patiently
Clocks are ticking
Bennett's headed back to New York, 1983
To meet himself as a younger man
Show the teenage him a perfect plan
The stocks to buy girls not to date
He knows the way to reinvent his future
Un-make mistakes, un-seal his fate
He's going back to change his choices
Guided by his inner voices
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
Bennett Lamb's been five days wide awake
He scrawled out every thought he had
Complex calculations he did make
All single-spaced on legal pads
He won't return to watch Babe Ruth
To head off Mao or John Wilkes Booth
To warn good people in the past
Of earthquakes, locust plagues or insurrection
There's just one die he wants recast
He's going back to change his choices
Guided by his inner voices
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
He's going back to change his choices
Guided by his inner voices
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
Visions that he'd seen
Bennett built a time machine
A fun song for sure

Nice!
Shout out to all those holed up in their shack right now

Dave Meros rules
Perhaps the first minutes of the song are too warm and trite, but the composition kicks off from mid. Later hypnotizes.
3:11 Looks like a Doctor Who title sequence...
He sounds like neal in the beginning it's crazy
Judging by this and Minion, the album is going to feature some pretty weird and not-too-serious lyrics and fun musical arrangements. :D

sounds to me like people who have listened to Mike Keneally

I would say "frame hate" hahaha
Love the music, but the framerate drops make this hard to watch.
