Nice video, I love my K line Budd cars, I have a set of these Budd cars in B&O. One thing to note they do have a lock out its hidden up under the frame under the coupler on one end.
Nice Story! Never knew Western Pacific operated Buddliners! New Haven had theirs til 7Os sold 12 to Amtrak. MBTA took over Boston and Maine fleet and ran them to 1985. Still operated by scenic railroads in CT and White Mountains of NH both are still in New Haven Colors!
B&M had largest number of Buddliners at 108 most sold to either MBTA or CN. Lehigh Valley in PA had second largest at 80 and the New Haven had third largest fleet at 40 Buddliners which ended up with Amtrak and at least 3 are still in service on Scenic RR in New England. I remember seeing the B&M Budds every day as the Fitchburg to Boston line had two stops in Belmont and ran along and behind the Belmont High School. They did move running at 45 to 50 MPH on average on that line. Still have 2 of 3 Lionel Buddliners 400's from my Dad's collection.
@@rchird2010 The Zephyrette was a tri-weekly train consisting of a Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC) run by the Western Pacific Railroad between Oakland, California, and Salt Lake City from 1950 to 1960. Covering 924 miles (1,487 km),[1] it was the longest RDC service in the United States. The average time from Oakland to Salt lake was 23 hours. They had an operating speed of 70 mph.
Nice review! I've always been a fan of railcars and short runs such as this. Since the Zephyrette ran the entire Western Pacific Main Line, a total of 924 miles, this would make the route the longest served by an RDC. Good song use with the Trashmen!
I LOVE your videos and you know so much about trains (real and model) as my family worked for Southern Pacific I just love trains. I hate flying wish I could travel by train!
Great set I appreciate the history especially on the Western Pacific Zephyrs-Zephyrette's. I like the Kline trains. I have the B&O set . Thanks, For sharing ; "Happy Rails" GMan
Wow! that is a pretty set and you have all 3! Thank you so much for the shoutout and for sharing this collection with us. My bud cars also eat switches and like to fly off the tracks :D
I have my dad`s lionel bud that he bought in 1957 . Love the music , can you play Harry James " The Mole " it would be great locomotive background and also his "Trumpet Blues "?

Imagine traveling from Salt Lake City to Oakland (a few miles from San Francisco), 924 miles in 23 hours. Why bother to drive?
