In defense of Shelda (spoilers), she's actually one of the most interesting characters. Unlike GOOP, she's not actually evil, she just doesn't know how to communicate herself without making a caricature of herself. Her wisdom actually is pretty good, not only about the island, but in the Bigsnax DLC she outright says she isn't a replacement for therapy, and tells one of the characters that their loved one needs professional help. You're supposed to dislike her initially, because she really is a fraud, and a bit of a hypocrite, she feels the need to be one in order to be heard. Which she comes to terms with, noting that she will be heard by whoever listens.
tbf all the characters have some kind of major flaw that can make you hate them unless you look past it and see what else they have. ive seen just about every character get some kind of hate on them, with someone saying they arent deep 'unlike the rest'. true, the flaws are major but EVERY character has something more to them that makes them well rounded, even if they leave a bad impression at first, and i really enjoy that.
@@hawktalon7890 she actually became one of my favorite characters. She stopped speaking in riddles and gives some great advices. Like that she’s not a professional, and some people do need therapy that even friends and family can’t give

Something interesting about the sidequests to me is that none of the characters ever actually achieve their goals. Wambus never manages to farm Bugsnax, Gramble can't make a family out of what are essentially wild animals, Beffica can't find any dirt on Chandlo (and all of her quests to get dirt on the other characters only serve to make her more and more miserable), Wiggle can't get the inspiration she wants, Triffany doesn't find out what happened to her grandmother, none of Cromdo's schemes pan out, Chandlo will never be the strongest thing out there, Snorpy's obsession with his secrets only pushes Chandlo away, Floofty's disregard for everyone around them pushes everyone away and their experiments bear no real fruit in the end, and Shelda's unable to practice what she preaches and the front she puts on only makes her message more confusing. None of these characters get what they want, and it's through these failures that they realize that Bugsnax are not the answer to their problems, thus allowing them to fight the Bugsnax off in the golden ending. Because Bugsnax aren't an answer, for all that they prey on insecurities and weaknesses. The only characters who don't have sidequests are Filbo, who despite his confidence issues only ever asks for Bugsnax when he's straight up starving; Eggabell, though that's more because technically her quests are part of the main quest; the videos show that she did turn to Bugsnax due to her issues; and Lizbert, who's already witnessed the Horrors by the time the player gets to her. And I think that's why the journalist is allergic to Bugsnax; they don't have any substantial issues for the Bugsnax to latch onto. Notice how Bugsnax only ever seem to be hostile (charging, launching fireballs) towards the player? And I think there's something so important in that; no matter how hard these characters try, they won't achieve their goals if they try to rely on something as insubstantial (and insidious) as Bugsnax. And the fact that failing so many times and thus realizing that the Bugsnax won't actually help them is what makes them invulnerable in the final levels,,, i'm not crying you're crying
gramble shouting “that’s why your wife left you!!!” is probably my favourite part of the entire game. catching bugsnax was cool, doing side quests was fun, but i could listen to gramble tell wambus he makes his wife feel unloved and uncared for over and over. it’s hilarious
i did like how the isle of bigsnax update fleshed shelda out a bit more. it gave a few more characters development and screen time that was all fantastic, but it did a great job showing shelda as less of a grumpy hypocrite and more someone lost in her ways looking for answers imo
i completely agree. i also love that triffany got to get more screen time, she was a really important part of the dlc and served as the voice of reason and the calm, balanced one and i love that
@@space.arr0w999 Same here. And I liked how Floofty gave insight about Snorpy’s paranoia and his conspiracy theories. And how it drove a wedge between him, Floofty, and even Chandlo.
I never disliked Shelda, but the dlc helped develop her character more for the better. Also that one line, "Floofty did you ask the journalist to throw acid at you?" raised her appeal by 10.
This video has covered the game very well, I'd say. When I went through the game, I had those same revelations and experiences. I absolutely love how the grumpuses were written and I would honestly like to see more of that in games. I know games can be an escape from problems, but sometimes it is the reminder that we're not alone while struggling that makes things easier. I really do hope they do a Bugsnax 2 or something to continue the story of these characters, but even without this is a really satisfying game. I'm so glad that it essentially came out of left-field and was really fresh. I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much with an idea of what it was before going in. Thanks for the video! The editing is very enjoyable (and I appreciate the extra Scoopy Banoopy at the end).
I also think shelda was a hood character Masking is definitly a problem a lot of people have. People do think nobody will listen to them, so they put up a fake self, a mask, so people accept and listen to them. While shelda was definitly not the norm of this, its still relatable and i feel sad for her. The saddest thing for her probably was that people listened to her, confirming for her that the mask is better than herself. One the other hand with the dlc it was also discussed that shelda believes in her god and is afraid that her believe gets forgotten, so she overacts to make her religion more interesting and in her eyes probably believable I think its those 2 aspects, her not thinking she is someone and nobody would take her serious and belive her in comboniation with the anxiety that her believe gets forgotten, that created Shelda

The Kweebles though... yeah I wonder how he successfully tamed those. Hmmmm...

As I said, both of their positions are within the design of the game and story. It would be hard to have them back in town without taking away the great reveal at the end.
Buddy, you can use the tripwire to neutralize flaming or freezing snacks! It conducts, fire, ice and water and it’s more convenient than using another bug snack to extinguish or thaw out the one you’re trying to catch because not only does it extinguish and or thaw out the bugs snack you want to catch but it also knocks it out so you don’t have to worry about it splitting apart!
Finally, I was hoping somebody would do a lore / deep dive / analysis video of this game. I love this game! I know all of the bugs snack names by heart the ones in the main game. I’m still learning the ones from the free DLC, my favorite bug snack is Charmallow, its call is so cute! I also love Chillynilly, Paletoss and burger because one is an ice cream sandwich and the other two also have cute calls. Paletoss is Spanish and part of my culture, and Bunger is just so bouncy and full of life how can you not love them! My favorite grumpuses are Filbo Fiddlepie and Gramble Gigglefunny they are both soooooo cute! I wanna learn to knit just so I can learn how to make that strabby hat! It’s so cute too!
You know how Liz gave egg a cheery you have to get a cheery from a scoopy banoopy that are found in frosted peak maybe they went there to find more and got separated

It conducts, fire, ice and water and it’s more convenient than using another bug snack to extinguish or thaw out the one you’re trying to catch because not only does it extinguish and or thaw out the bugs snack you want to catch but it also knocks it out so you don’t have to worry about it splitting apart!
Hey wait till he hears about the snakolytes and the 3 queens and the triffany’s grandma aka cappucheetle hahahaha
No idea how one could hate Shelda but tolerate Cromdo. That guy was repulsive.
Gramble is a snackifist

Well it’s not dead anymore now we can(probably) mod Bugsnax, play on steam, and now have DLC
I can't help but feel I've stumbled upon a fucking gold mine of a content creator. Please continue making these awesome vids. I don't even care about bugsnax but your vids are just so well structured I like watching anyways.
The fact that this game has been played by so many family-friendly channels and then just vanishing from the channel makes sense now lol
I love how everyone turns Beff into pickles
I could not stop dying when you said LaCroy Man😂😂
I want to let you know that you can fast travel if you didn’t know that already go to the map and your journal so like the place you wanna travel to click on it and you’ll be met with the option to fast travel.

Do you plan on talking about the dlc?
Ok that ending was even more wild than I anticipated! Great laying out of the game!

This game also has a really good voice cast like holy shit some of these actors are no joke. You got Sam Riegel and Yuri Lowenthal. LIKE WHAT THE HELL MAN
I didn't realize that there's fast travel until after I finished the game 😬 At least now when I'm catching all the Bugsnax I can travel a lot faster.
