I bought the OG Ultraboost completely on a whim. Another nurse told me about them and I went to footlocker the next day and shelled out full price for navy blue that perfectly matched my scrubs. (This was in 2017 I think.) Complete game changer for working 12-16 hour shifts. I wore them completely out. Since then I have bought just about all of them. 19's. 20's, 22's, 4.0, Ultralites and none of them are quite the same. (Plus 4 pairs of Yeezys, and various NMD's) Now the 5x..... Hmmm.
I tried the UB 5 at a local store and they felt amazing. For information - some kind of adidas with boost are my main beaters when I walk my dog. I use mainly UB 4 and 5. I don't like UB 1 and the newer 21/22/23. But the 5s tick all my boxes: they're thick at the forefoot, they're wide enough in the front and they're soft and comfortable. Be aware that they fit a bit big. I have wide feet and usually wear 42 2/3 or 43 1/3. In the store the best fit was size 42.
I’ve owned 1.0 through 4.0 and this is by far way more lightweight and more comfortable than any ultra-boost I’ve owned. And yes it is in fact the lightest boost ever made according to Adidas. In order to make it in this world you have to adapt and yes they are making changes but in my opinion it is for the best as this is a better performing more comfortable shoe than ever and yes it also looks about as good as the 1.0 on foot. Don’t be afraid of change people this shoe is magical
It's easy to figure out why it's called the "5". 1 refers to the first generation Ultraboost that came with both caged and uncaged; 2 refers to the Ultraboost 19 and 20 with almost identical design; 3 refers to the Ultraboost 21 and 22 that also share very similar design; 4 refers to the Ultraboost Light that is visually distinguishable from its predecessor; so yea the 5 refers to this latest model since it's quite different from the Light. Regarding its current state that no longer exhibits the combination of running performance and comfort, it literally boils down to the level of cushioning as well as technologies from other brands that have surpassed the Boost material. At the time of the release of the 1st generation Ultraboost, it had by far the softest, most cushioning midsole on the market. However, as time goes by, more and more models comprising softer midsole have been released, such as the Invincible Run models with ZoomX, or Asics Gel Nimbus, which have created a whole new avenue of so-called squeeshy soft midsoles for those seeking comfortable recovery run with little to no need for responsiveness. Therefore, it is incredibly difficult to tackle the situation that provides superb comfort without compromising performance influenced by weight and bounciness/responsiveness. For example, you can't possibly expect a super soft material to cushion your legs, but expect the same material to propel you efficiently. Hence, I would say the Ultraboost 5 is still a pretty solid pair of running shoes to me, as it incorporates the essence of both comfort and responsiveness, sort like a Jack of all trades, master of none. It is also worth noting that some very soft midsoles tend to increase instability such as the ZoomX Invincible Run and Zoom Tempo NEXT%, while one of Ultraboost's most remarkable strengths lies within its cushioning without sacrificing stability, even after increasing the thickness of Boost in the forefoot area. Hope this helps. Cheers guys.
As someone who owns a running shoe store, and tried on this shoe and others back in November last year. NB1080 & Asics Gel-Nimbus are comfier. When the original Ultraboost came out, it was by far the plushest shoe on the market, but now most other brands have surpassed Adidas when it comes to the combination of comfort and running technology for the every day runner. I do, however, love the aesthetic compared to other brands, especially in some of the colours I've seen so far in our pre-order catalogs. So people should look out for those. Lightboost is also a great upgrade to boost as every other brand was destroying Boost on weight over the last few years.
@@carlito24uk depends on the type of runner and the level of cushioning they like. I have ankle issues so I run in something with a bit more firm shock absorption but I sell to plenty of runners that prefer the plushness of the ride on the 1080 and the Nimbus. Their energy return isn't as great for runners looking to beat PBs or just for speed in general, but for the runners not looking for that, they are great options. I'm not sure what would be the most stable out of the 3, probably the Ultraboost 5x (we're yet to see this in-store or from major reviewers yet) but if you're looking for a more stable ride with good return, I'd option for something like a Hoka Clifton or Saucony Endorphin Speed at least within that price range. Something high level, non-carbon for longevity of shoe.
These shoes are still very popular, I see them all the time. Glad to see they are returning to their original routes of the design. The 1.0 are still very nice, and people still buy them. If you want a lifestyle ultraboost, we will still keep getting them
Ultraboost 5 been available on Amazon since at least 7/13 and still selling for $153.35. Only the white and grey with lucid pink/ spark orange is available for purchase, but the all grey and all white colorways have been on display there since. I copped them and have been wearing them for the last 5 days. Definitely more comfortable than ultraboost light, maybe not as squishy underfoot as Ultraboost 1.0, but overall more comfortable with the stack of foam especially under the forefoot and ball of your feet AND alot lighter feeling for a shoe that looks so much bigger and chunkier than my 1.0
There’s a lot of talk about barefoot, All Stars, and minimal footwear for gym… but if you look at pro football/soccer players 100% of them wear ultraboost or ultraboost type of another brand. So while running has plenty of options I think these are the undisputed king of gym (if your not a body builder or super heavy lifter)
I got a pair of the DNA (1.0 is guess), UB 22 and the Light. I just ordered another pair of the 22 cause it's easily the most comfortable. Under foot its similar to the light, but the knit is loose on the DNA and 22, while on the Light it's too tight. My issue with the DNA (and ultimately the 1.0-5.0, is there really a 6.0?) is that the boost breaks down and isn't the same as when it was new, while my UB 22 is beat and the boost is still as comfortable to when it was new, with 100+ miles on them and the feel the same as the Light underfoot. I barely wore the DNA to the gym and maybe 20+ miles of walking and they're at the same level as an NMD underfoot
What do you guys think is better? I am looking for a daily shoe that I can run occasionally, be on my feet all day at work, do light activities in, and still not have a sore feet. I have been wearing ultraboosts. Should I upgrade to the 5x? Go for NewBalance 1080v13 or the NewBalance FuelCell Rebel V4? I am aware the the 1080v13 is really plush and comfy but in the past with I believe the 1080v12s I had an issue where my feet started to hurt after couple hours in it. Any suggestions? Would you still recommend me the 5x?
I have worn 1.0 since they came out. I have tried the others and they are always inferior products compared to the OG. I’m interested yet skeptical about these 5x idk if I want em lol. I need new work sneakers. I’m on the feet 12 hours plus daily walking 5-15 miles a day. Looking for the ultimate comfort and stability
Hi Seth, been following on and off for years. I want to try your Apthcry socks, but do you have plans for size? One size tend not to fit. Compound the issue, I usually like the less standard colorways. I'd be willing to wait a little just as a point of feedback.
For those who complain about the midsole not being soft or cushioning or squeeshy enough, you got to get the facts right bruh. Put it in a vehicle comparison perspective. Have you ever encountered any track-focused supercars having super soft suspensions and fat thick low profile tyres for maximum comfort? In contrast, have you ever seen any rolls-royce made of carbon tub, with stiff, lightweight materials being used throughout the car where the ride is so darn firm that every single pothole on the road can be effectively felt in your butt, making you feel like you're being kick in the ass? Stiffness is made to increase energy transmission, to reduce energy loss, whereas cushioning is made to absorb impact and reduce energy return. Ultraboost is not meant to be super stiff or super soft. It is a balance of both. If you want something super stiff, go for those with midsoles inserted with carbon fibre plate that are meant for race days; if you want something super soft, go for Invincible Runs, Cloudmonster 2, or Repetitor.
Adidas should stick to Primeknit and never let it go as it is an extremely comfortable upper on a shoe. Don´t try to fix what is not broken. As for the Ultraboost the only thing keeping me from buying more is the price, $180 is too much.
4y ago in attack of insanity I bought crazy colored ultraboost PB (personal best), black, dark red and pink with weirdly glowy colored midsole, model EG5916. 4y ago it looked too much. Today it is absolutely in trend and so eye catching. A bit firm midsole (personal best means more for running ) for ultraboost but still comfortable. I love them now:) better looking than any ultraboost ever made. Some craziness needed in Adidas once again.
Adidas made their "HOKA version" with the thicken midsole. UB5X, UB5 & Pureboost looking all alike is a bummer and lazy approach of their designers. I will wait for the Gore-tex trail version 50% to 70% sale of UB5X.
It's called the 5 and 5x because it's the 5th generation of the midsole (1st is 1.0-5.0/DNA, 2nd is 19/20, 3rd is 21/22, and 4th is Light). Differences in the midsoles: 19/20 added 20% more Boost. This was added mostly under foot where the 1.0-5.0 had a heel/toe stack height of 22mm/12mm, the 19/20 had stack height of 30/20. 21/22 add 7% more boost, but that was all on the sides and back. The stack height remained the same at 30/20. The Light reduced the amount of Boost by removing that added Boost on the sides and using Boost Light with same stack height. 5/5x has a 5% more Boost than the Light and the stack height has been upped to 38/28... if true, then that's triple the height of what the original UltraBoost midsole was. The heel to toe drop has always been a consistent 10mm drop with all models, but it does feel like the 21/22 had more drop.
This video should have been much shorter. A lot of rambling on about the same things. Possibly, a solid 7-8min video tops IMO. Other than that, love your channel and perspectives on shoes.
I don't get the hype. After stepping out of my Nike Alphafly 3 or Vaporfly 3 the Ultraboost 5's feel like bricks. They still feel like bricks after waring my normal AirMax everyday shoes. Hugely disappointed. I know why I never bought Adidas now.
I had the Energy Boost 2, I think. Meh. Tried the UB19. FIRM. Sold it after one run. Tried the IMPROVED UB21. FIRM. Sold it after one run. This one??????????????????????
The OG 1.0 still rocks IMO 🔥
Just bought a pair for like 70 from adidas about 2 weeks ago!
kinda weird there's no Olympics UB 2024 though..those versions were fire
ultraboost doesn't feel the same as before.. it looks more athletic now.. we loved ultraboost 1.0 because of its lifestyle vibe..
It was always a running shoe lmao
Nah we want adidas to be like Nike where they just make shoes that look nice but are actually built like crap and have no tech
I read between the lines, I know you miss the old Kanye
Ultraboost 1.0 still being released just go get one if you want.
the xplrphase and the nmds are the lifestyle versions, go get them
I still rock my 1.0s heavily. Sleek and hella comfortable. Imho, 1.0s looks way better than any new lifestyle runners
I love nike free run 1.0 still to but they look outdated, as the ub1

Ultraboost 22 vs ultraboost 20 ?
1.0s the most comfy in your opinion?
@whatsupdude IMO, yep. I haven't tried the 5x though.
I have over 100 pairs of shoes with Boost and after a decade, it's still the most comfortable shoe cushioning IMO!
U should try the new balance 990 I have both shoes and the NB are for me much better
Which UB most comfortable?

Differences in the midsoles: 19/20 added 20% more Boost.
