Trying to FIX 2x Faulty Apple iPhone 6S purchased on eBay

  • Hi, this 'trying to fix' video shows me attempting to fix 2 faulty iPhone 6S that I purchased on eBay for £105 and £55.
    Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
    I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
    Many thanks Vince.

    Ever since I've found your channel, I've just been binge watching every video. It's really great seeing an amateur (no offense), taking things apart and (attempting) to fix them. It gives me inspiration, and shows that you don't need to be an expert to fix things. I hate all the "professional" and "sponsored" channels that litter TH-cam today. I miss the days when everyone was just an average person, no different than me or you. I far prefer the private and non-verified channels. At least the few that are left.

    The zero passcode bypass was a bug actually, in the earlier ios 11 versions, the passcode part actually accepted 4 or 6 zeros instead of the real passcode.

    • @sidgallup
      @sidgallup 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      but the phone would update to the latest iOS version when you restore it so that bug had to be patched... unless they havent patched it and it still accepts six 0 as a passcode.

    • @Y0shimari0
      @Y0shimari0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe they publicly said they did and really didnt? when they "patched" it the option to use the passcode disappeared

      All zero's has been used as admin bypass for years. It's not likely a bug, but a reset feature that used to be built in standard. Thing is only the tech savvy were likely to have this knowledge back in the day, and nobody would usually think someone would set the passcode to all zeros. Now....people are more knowledgeable about tech in general, and this process is outdated and it's surprising to see it still used.

    If something isnt working (like the camera, screen, speakers, etc), try unplugging the battery from the board and replugging it in. Usually when working on a phone, the battery is disconnected first and should be the last part to be reconnected. Saved me a ton of times when I thought something wasn’t working.

  • @Adrian202

    You need to disconnect battery first, dat's important because You may fry board.
    On siri check hole on screen part because on same replacements screens that hole need to be enlarged because it's not in same spot.
    Mostly on disassembly siri or camera is damaged and that's normal :D
    yes screws are not the same and always need to be put back in same spot like on 5S one is not magnetic and it's next to compass.
    Not bad for not checking any tutorial and I can tell You that :)

    You were very lucky not to blow a filter next time disconnect the battery before working inside the phone. Also it is very important to keep the four screws covering the display cables in the correct order as long screw damage is a very technical repair well beyond the scope of most technicians. Nice to get a functioning ipod and a phone from ebay :)

    I will give you a few tips. You probobly already had hundreds of coments just like these.
    Touch ID on the home button is locked to that specific motherboard. You can replace the button, but the Touch ID will not work. This needs to be programmed with a Special Apple Calibration machine which only apple has.
    Great tip! Buy a suction cup and the tool iSesamo(buy serveral of them). This will make your life so much easier when tryck to pry things open.
    Also do remove the connection of the battery to the mainboard before removing anything else. And put a small object between the batteryconnector and its logicboard connections.
    I would also recommend to watch 1 or 2 videos of the procedure to prepare.

    Not unplugging the battery can short out the backlight on an iPhone screen, which is probably what happened with your phone (Hugh Jeffreys here on TH-cam always emphasises unplugging the battery first when you’re repairing an iPhone, I learned it from him). The Touch ID button is also locked to a phone’s motherboard and can only be re-paired to an iPhone by Apple when they do an official repair (also learned this from Hugh Jeffreys). Other than that you did a good job with the phones!

    You can't swap Touch ID as its paired with the logic board
    Imei number is on the shell of the iPhone as sim trays are the easiest way to fool a buyer as its easily swapped.
    Vince what you've just said about the iCloud lock, You could have just bought a stolen phone but not likely as its easily on locked nowadays so would have been sold for full price.

    In order to get the screen to work on the new phone you have to disconnect the battery after having replaced the screen. The you hold the power button with the battery disconnected for a few seconds and then reconnect the battery. The screen should work after that. I had to do it on a screen repair for my little sister. Put the screen on and it didn't work, disconnected and reconnected the battery and boom, worked perfectly.

    You should disconnect the battery before taking any ribbon cables out mate, if not when you reconnect them there’s a chance you can short the backlight on the motherboard and it’s impossible to repair! Just a heads up if you do swap the screens make sure you swap the homebuttons around so you can still use Touch ID!

    Not sure if you did, but always disconnect the battery before removing/replacing the screen on an iphone 6s, otherwise you will more than likely have backlight issues. If the rear camera and flash/torch do not work, then the camera ic is likely water damaged.

    You should be able to do everything except of course make/ receive calls if the phone is locked to the former owner's cell service, but reset ( no password set). Unlocking the cell service to port it over is simple, and very quick. That first phone has Chinese text on it.....the darker one looks fake,weird .Find my iPhone is brilliant if you have 2 Apple devices, or your significant other also has one. I use my iPad to track my iPad, and vice versa... It tracks them down to a satellite photo of the location. Awesome!

    I'm not there in the video, so I don't know how it turns out, but you can't swap the Touch ID as it's paired with the motherboard so if you replace the screen, you'll have to swap the touch ID over. On the other hand, do not try to disconnect the screen with the battery attached (obviously if you did, it's too late to warn you... that would ruin the motherboard and/or loose touchID functionality).
    **EDIT: you swapped over the TouchID, well done.

    The iPhone 6 is pretty damn durable. I have a friend with one. She is a first grade teacher, and uses it constantly to take photos of her class, and to play games and use social media during breaks. She drops the thing probably 5 times a day, on a tile floor, and her 5 grandchildren play with the thing. Not so much as a chip, or crack in the screen! She also carries / hangs it by the charge cord without any issues. That 6s is a freaking tank. If my iPhone x is half as sturdy, I'm good to go........

I noticed I could put in a passcode to remove the ICLOUD LOCK but I had to many goes and it disabled that function. But thankfully the seller (trusted me with his account) and sent me his details to unlock it as he forgot. But this feature of using unlock code was introduced in iOS11 I beleive.

    I know this is an old video but while watching it I realized you never Disconnected the battery before replacing the two screens back on the phones which will render the screens either in operable or they just won’t turn on so what you need to do is plug in the screen first then plug the battery in and the screen will always come on if not damaged Also with the Siri I noticed that you weren’t allowing Siri the two second delay that she always does before speaking that’s why She was only taking the last two words of your sentence. And Lastly any screen that is not Apple original parts is gonna look very different from the original screen,In visual quality and functionality. Never disconnect reconnect the screen without disconnecting the battery. great videos bro ,I love em.

    You should have asked for a deal on the iCloud locked one, like when he offered you a refund you could have asked for a partial. iCloud locked devices are often the most useful though, if you can get them cheap enough you can buy an iPhone that is totally destroyed (as long as the logic board is ok) and transfer over the logic board.

    there is no point of adding the heat but the screws are different lenght and if you put longer screw to short nut you can short power rails so on iphone always make sure you keep them in order ... also fingerprint is locked to the motherboard so you need to change circuit board under button too (just exchange small pcb behind button) and if displays are good everything should work fine

      Idk what you’re all talking about with this Touch ID swap question. You can use any home button as long as you don’t mind not using Touch ID function. Otherwise they will function normally. To change that PCB behind the home button is surgical god mode soldering and is not feasible.

      home button is nothing more than a tactile switch and a plastic button ... ofcource i am talking about Touch ID this board is easy to swap and it is a must if you want everithing to work as new ... anyway to me iPhones are trash for money ... i prefer 1000 times more Android phone ... even windows phones are beter than iphone ... even no brands chinese software phones are beter

    Hi Vince, could you maybe link down in one of the next videos your tool set that you're using? Trying to find of those good sets with also triwing bits, but only find trashy ones mostly. Yours looks really good qualitywise and also pretty handy. thanks in advance and keep going on like that! Really love your videos!

    I noticed this from the start the rose gold iPhone 6s is water damaged. You can tell because there is not supposed to be anything red in the iPhone. The only thing that will turn red is the water indication markers and they are red so the iPhone is water damaged. Hint that’s why the screen don’t work. And I used to fix all different types of iPhones and apple products.

    If this proves anything, it proves what a pain these phones are to fix. I have had iPhones since 2009. Waiting for the 12 to be delivered. I never take them apart or have issues with them but may have just jinxed myself.

    You need an isesame tool for opening these easily. the 6s has an adhesive waterproof seal which is why they were a bit sticy to open, the iPhone 6 doesn't have that seal and is easier.
    also, remember to disconnect batteries on these repairs before doing anything else.

    Wow... you're one very lucky bastard :D:D:D If that battery would have been loaded and connected when you swapped the screen, you might have ended up killing the motherboard. That is waaaay too lucky of you :D Congrats.

    Plug it in to your computer and there should be a option to reset it. This will only work when you can not log in no more. However you must hold the power button and home button

    Unless you've prerecorded this, it seems you've found an iCloud bypass, the method you used to get past the activation screen was the same one you can do to get past iCloud on 11.0.3, you probably wanna get a few people to test this because you may have found a security flaw, I could be wrong but that seems reasonably possible since its happened before.

    Just so you know you cannot link any home button for Touch ID to the iPhone. The touch ID is only linked to the original logic board it is shipped with.

  • @miguelmigas12
    @miguelmigas12 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    you must put the original touch id button in to the rose gold iphone and touch ID work again , when you change screen on iphones you must put the original home button on the new screen
