Greasefang is like low-key one of my favorite cards of the set. It's a janky strategy, but when you pull it off like it mostly works here, it's surprisingly strong. Some discard outlets, self mill, etc. will give you vehicle fodder in your GY, and Greasefang herself is strong enough to crew most good vehicles. I like it for being an Orzhov commander that isn't heavily pushing an aristocrats strategy.
This is the first video I've seen from y'all, and I really liked it! I usually hate watching MTG on paper, but your smooth editing and narration made all the difference. The game was great, too! It felt like each player, maybe minus Hinata a bit, got to do what their deck wanted to.
Very cool seeing neat legends like Greasefang and the good boi played with imaginative and well-made decks. Just found you, and I'm definitely subscribing. Cheers!
Awesome game, loved to see how Greasefang performed! As a sidenote, I think Jeweled Lotus is a very weird inclusion for a 3-colors commander. The strenght of that card is to ramp out the commander early and here it only pays for half of Hinata's cost and wastes 1 mana.
I believe it was included because it was built as an eggs deck. It's not the most efficient use of it but it's another target for something like Indomitable Creativity. And sometimes that third mana gets used to pay part of commander tax.
Great game, i wasnt expecting that show from greasefang, but was pleasantly surprised. I was hoping Isshin would win, but figured hinata would. Yay isshin!
Lost a game with my own Isshin deck today (not nearly as impressive as this one by the looks of things) and got very little value from him because my friend was able to steal him after 2 turns of having him out. It was nice to see someone get the Dub with him.
Great game! Loved seeing the new commanders in action and in some crazy fun brews. I can't understand why the greasefang player dropped that cataclysmic gearhulk when he was so far ahead with creatures. One sided board wipe against yourself?
What precon is Yoshimaru in? It says he's a partner and has the commander symbol for kamigawa neon dynasty. But I can't see it in the buckle up precon.
That recent rule change was specifically for Duel Commander which is a 1v1 commander variant format with a different rules committee. So, those rules wouldn't apply here and partner commanders still operate the same.
(Sadly?) Isshin's ability only doubles the triggers of permanents you control. The part he doesn't care about is "whose creature is attacking", but, he *does* care "who controls the triggering permanent", which in this case, was cody, not Matt. Happy combat steps to ya out there! :3
It is an eggs deck so it serves as another target for Indomitable Creativity, Paradoxical Outcome, etc. It's not the most efficient use of Jeweled Lotus but it makes sense to me. And it can always put another mana towards commander tax in the right situation.
Be careful with extra combat cards in Isshin. Cards like Aurelia may give you two additional combat steps with Isshin on board, but she only untaps your creatures once (since both untap triggers happen during the 1st combat phase).
I think cody had the win, the kept spreading the damage for no reason, what's the point of that? If you are aggro you attack the same opponent until he's dead
Paradoxical outcome does not target, and Deflecting Swat could not choose Hinata. This has to do with two things: how a spell is cast and how Paradoxical Outcome resolves. It also means Hinata will not reduce the cost. The cards are chosen during resolution as the spell is resolving, and no targets are chosen as that happens when the spell is being cast but before priority is checked. Paradoxical Outcome reads: "Return any number of target nonland, nontoken permanents you control to their owners' hands. Draw a card for each card returned to your hand this way." The spell Turnabout works the same way. At no point does the spell target, meaning Deflecting Swat could not be played because it had no targets and Hinata could not reduce the cost.
With Turnabout you are clearly targeting the player and choosing the permanent type, but Paradoxical Outcome targets the permanents directly (it uses the word "target" not "choose"). So I think it does work. Put it this way, could you bounce a creature you control that had shroud with Outcome? I would say no but you can untap it with Turnabout. Would you say Aurelia's Fury isn't discounted by Hinata and can't be deflected? Obviously that one works and it's phrased the same way as Paradoxical Outcome as far as I can tell.
Hi, this is Jason with Smooth Brain EDH and a L1 judge. We appreciate you looking out for mistakes in the video, but in this situation the guys played it correctly. Cards that say target in the text box do target. There's no exceptions to this other than "enchant X" which still targets even though it doesn't explicitly state it. Turnabout works differently from Paradoxical Outcome because it has a single target, which is a player. Since Paradoxical Outcome and Turnabout target, Deflecting Swat can change the targets. The "any number of target permanents" part of Paradoxical Outcome is the type of interaction Ethan and I looked for when building the Hinata deck. Mistakes in deckbuilding and understanding of the rules do occur. Even I as the L1 of the group make mistakes about interactions, so we appreciate the vigilance. However in this instance, Ethan and Matt are correct in how they handled this interaction even down to Matt subtly paying the 1 to target Paradoxical Outcome due to Hinata's tax.
Cool game. I was expecting Gresefang to perform badly, but actually became a surprise! Cool!

Glad to see Yoshimaru getting some love! No one is brewing the good boy doggo!
Such a fun game. Kamigawa has lots of fun commanders.
I’ve been really looking around for some sort of Greasefang decklist, so seeing Cody playing one was really exciting for me
As a person who will eventually build a Greasefang deck I'm glad to see her going off

If you like cedh and more competitive commander playing with power is great and rewatching casually competitive also has some great gameplay
Really impressed with Greasefang! Great episode!

This was a very fun and entertaining watch! I didn’t expect The Greasy boi to do so much work!
I was routing for greasefang so hard. And she actually went off for a while so i was happy
Dig it! Definitely got me thinking I should build Isshin now that I have one. Giving me ideas for my Hinata deck too
Isshin is my favorite Commander to come out in recent years. Great game!
Awesome game, loved to see how Greasefang performed!

Great video as always
This game really got me interested in Greasefang. Looks really fun to cheat out the super flashy vehicles early.
Sad we didn't get to see Satoru in this episode, but it was still an excellent game to watch!
My man Cody representing the One Piece crew!
Great game, i wasnt expecting that show from greasefang, but was pleasantly surprised. I was hoping Isshin would win, but figured hinata would. Yay isshin!
Greasefang looks a súper funny commander for casual edh. Good game.
Cody was gonna dermotaxi phage!!! NOOOOOOO

Gg sword master ..death from 1000 cuts love to see it ..combat damage baby!!!
Great game play

I can't understand why the greasefang player dropped that cataclysmic gearhulk when he was so far ahead with creatures. One sided board wipe against yourself?
Likely because Ethan had 14 treasures stockpiled for his turn. That’s a very abusable amount of mana especially given hinata’s reduction ability.
@@BlueGriffin20 ah you are right, I knew I was missing something

Unfortunately it's a commander card that can only be pulled in set and collector boosters.
Ah the goodest bois
Spicy game, loved it.
Shouldn't Parhelion or whatever make double the angels with Isshin in play?
Me encanto el commander blanco y negro
OHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Do y’all have a discord server?
Yes they do. It is in the description of their newest video.
@@apefruit1110 thanks I just joined today
Yoshimaru with Sakashima and some replication/blink spells to create a legendary creature army!
the partner rules have change right? So why Shelby can cast his two commanders? Does it authorized on multicommanader?
That recent rule change was specifically for Duel Commander which is a 1v1 commander variant format with a different rules committee. So, those rules wouldn't apply here and partner commanders still operate the same.
I like the tree dog deck
I may be wrong but, wouldn't the Parhelion trigger double with Isshin too?
(Sadly?) Isshin's ability only doubles the triggers of permanents you control.

@@Teeto_KOh yeah! Thanks!
How could u ..he was just such a good boy..yes he bite u for 10 twice ? No big deal lol..that was a good deal ..
I want greasefang to win
small knit picky thing but whats the point of playing jeweled lotus in Hinata since its a 3 color commander?
It is an eggs deck so it serves as another target for Indomitable Creativity, Paradoxical Outcome, etc. It's not the most efficient use of Jeweled Lotus but it makes sense to me. And it can always put another mana towards commander tax in the right situation.
Ill never understand why some channels spoil hands, it slows down the video and spoils the game as well
I need Ethan's mat

i'm building a Hinata deck, so guess who i vote for ;)
I want Yoshimaru to win because he’s a good boy
I want to see Isshin go off.
I've seen a few good MTGO videos with him going off. He's crazy good.
Why greesefang has White spells???
Because his color identity is White and Black.
@@BaikenAndEggs 😅🤣 oh make sense🙈
Gonna have to be Ishin
Isshin!
DOGGY DECK DOGGY DECK

isshin!!!!! w00t!!!!
I hope the rat wins
Hinata
go isshin
Wouldn't isshin have caused parhelion to make 4 angels?
Isshin unfortunately only doubles the abilities of permanents you control.
isshan's ability litterally says " if a creature that is attacking causes an ability you control to trigger. it does so twice."
Greasefang best rat
Come on grease fang
Ah, mtg politics.
I love it
