@@5ker598boxing is the best sport for punching karate may be better for kicking cuz boxing doesn't have kicks but boxing is infinitely better than karate in the punching department.
@kennygrace4335 Wrong, dumbass. Boxing is inferior because it is fighting and the point is to try to take a punch, while Karate is Superior because it is about NOT fighting and AVOIDING punches!
All tournament "fighting" is a game because it (necessarily) has rules to prevent serious injury. That's not to say that people can't get a little bruised up, but it's so far removed from real combat that to say that one system is better than another for self-defense is nothing more than pounding one's chest. Even if a group of people from different systems were psychotic enough to throw away the rules and fight each other for real to determine which system is "best", it would more likely be the skills, conditioning, and ruthlessness of the participants and not the merits of their systems that would determine the outcome. Set ego aside and hope to never be truly tested.
Listen man I fought in Amateur mma and I've been in a couple fights out in the world (not by choice) Karate is amazing and easily the most beautiful striking art there is, I've used Karate techniques in fights against trained and untrained people alike and I love it. But Icymike is right about kyokushin (as much as I love Kyokushin) the conditioned response to stop fighting when punched in the face is the wrong one and almost zero kyokushin schools address it. Those guys would benefit a lot from simply soft sparring and learning how to take hits to the face in class every once in a while
Karate is fine. However, when it comes to fighting, karate would benefit from added boxing with its pulled punches, like the hook and overhand, footwork and head movement.
Mike has changed his opinion on Karate since this video. He has said karatekas can FIGHT very well. The problem comes with using it for real world self defense...but EVERY martial art fails in that area, I wouldn't box a dude in the street for fear of breaking my hands and I'm a damn good boxer
There is definitely cope on both sides. Karatekas need to Learn how to grapple, BJJ black belts still need to learn how to Strike. MMA fighters and "Modern Martial artists" can and should learn things like Karate and Taekwondo at the Very least to have a wider arsenal of Kicks than they can get from Muay Thai and Dutch Style Kickboxing. Traditional Martial Artists need to stop crapping on MMA for being a "Sport" as If that changes how well their stuff works. Combat Sports practitioners need to appreciate Traditional Martial arts for their Beauty and and their Inherent National Expression and Pride. Not to mention doing Karate Gave me reflexes and reaction times that I wouldn't have had I started in combat sports
Sadly since MMA become popular now people think that all the other form of fighting is not good anymore which is false. For me boxing is still the best style of fighting because the last thing you want in a street fight is to be on the grownd.
@user-is4wf5bx1o Your comment makes no sense, dumbass since Boxers aren't professional Grapplers or Wrestlers. Wrestling is best for ground work. Boxing is the WORST style of fighting cuz it is about taking punches instead of avoiding them. That is why Karate will always be superior, because it is about Evading Punches and kicks!
Karate is great but... "Punches to the face do nothing"???!!! Broken nose, broken jaw, broken orbital, cuts, blood in the eyes, KO, all this is nothing I guess ? Just watch KOTS or BKB and tell me they're not doing damage. Watch Kyokushin, how many punches to the body do they take ? hundreds... You can condition the body, you can't condition the face. Plus, if you're worried about breaking your hands, you're either too weak, not conditionned enough or you don't know how to punch a hard target (which is weird for a karate boy).
@Jenjak All the things you said happen to Boxers, not karate people, dumbass. Because Boxing is about embracing blows, while Karate is about Evading them, idiot!
Do your karate in an MMA match and come back to us, you have won karate tournaments, TKD looks good when its 2 TKD guys, but as a martial arts its stupid, i spent years doing karate and TKD, and i got dismantled in my first full contact muay thai sparring session, i felt lile i had built an ego and wasted years of my life, into my second year of mauy thai and havent looked back
Dude, 'what is Kata?', 'punches to the face do nothing.' huh?

Not if you are Homer Simpson.

Aww, the poor karate baby is so triggered.
Yea Iv said a martial art is just a art. It’s up to the artist to use it as he or she sees fit.
