If you stand on the corner of Greenfield Avenue today where the film of the traffic was taken ( where it enters the ring road) it doesnt look much different apart from the changes made by the Crystal centre and Tesco's. So much for progress then. We still have the same overhead lane boards. Thankyou Dudley MBC for all you havent done for our town. We almost lost our Crystal centre a few years ago,. only public outcry stopped this. You took no regard for the moms and kids who needed this facility in that decision process, a simple low cost way of pacifying little ones coming from school and enjoying this facility and helping them not only physically by swimming but in learning to swim helping add to their life preservation skills. And 50 years ago building this ring road you effectively allowed people to bypass the town centre when local trade in our Lower and Upper High Streets needed the passing business,. so well done on that one too. How often have any of you decision makers actually come to Stourbridge to look at the effect of all the shops which have opened and closed over those 50 years? Not many of you, thats for sure. In the 60s and 70s we had some of the finest shops in the borough, just look at it now. Shameful !!!
The Ring road is like a concrete millstone around the towns neck..The subways stink ,full of litter and graffiti..The car park an eyesore. Thanks for that 60's planners! The Luftwaffe would have done a better job improving the place.

Wow this is amazing. That brand new car park at the start looks really nasty and tatty now, and the crystal leisure centre isnt there in this video.
There's a good reason why the Crystal Leisure Centre isn't in the video. It wasn't built until 1990.
