Same, my buddy had a Mk3 GTI and I had the Mk3 GTI VR6. Those cars turned us into mechanics out of necessity, it was hell sometimes, but I would do it all over again!
I sold my 93 corrado with 237M. Still ran strong did many waterfests and the motor never been opened. Most of the issues I had were with the A/C. I still wish I had that car it was so clean. 5.0 mustangs on the highway were no problem. Integra GSR no problem. Much more torque.
The VR6 water pump replacement was an “engine out” service per the service center. I remember guys on VWVortex forum said you could loosen all the motor mounts and jack the engine up enough to get access to replace it. I opted instead to just sell the car. 😂
Me and you dude living our dreams at the same moment in time. I got my Mark 1 VR6 content coming. I built the car when I was in high school a Mark 3 VR6 turbo kept the motor Schimmel 3L BVH TT Tuning cams....
We used to replace those coil packs with ford taurus EDIS modules. They were electrically compatible. You just had to splice the connector over and work up a mount for em.
I have a 24v with 130k miles and it’s great. Did the normal water pump, crack pipe, thermostat housing replacement before it became a problem and I’ve had zero issues in 3 summers of driving it.
At least with the VR6 the chains usually last 150k miles before starting to make noise as opposed to the Audi V engines that only make it 50k-70k miles.
Yes, you have to take everything off to get to the last intake manifold bolt, but you can take it all apart and put it back together in a few hours. Did a few crack pipe and water pump replacements and just replaced the tensioner and coil pack while I was in there because … you know they’d go bad the next day if I didn’t.
Yeah Vin, with your future plans of throwing a turbo on here, I'd at least go with forged pistons and rods, along with a cam and better valve train so you won't be worried about revving her out...then maybe some head porting, then let the turbo do the rest 👌🏻
Really do like your exotic stuff with the Ferrari but these down to Earth builds are what I really love. Can you do a list of parts used and where to get them from please vin 😂
Question about Chain Noise , If you hear Chain noise on start up on a 3.6 VR but the noise goes away after , is that something to be concern about right away to get the chains and guides done ?
I owned a 1987 VW Fox 2DR Sportswagen, 1996 VW 4DR Jetta and a 1998 VW GTI with the Euro Jetta front end and interior. I will never own a VW again haha
@@fcpeuro-media Literally the same lol MK2 VR6 i'm trying to rebuild looking for a 1 stop shop to do it all (got some videos on my page here of me driving it)
Slagging off timing chain placement on something that can last 200 thousand miles 😂 The vr6 is the best engine vw ever made, get a charger on this one 👌
crank walk in my ea113 killed it, wish I knew before, could've at least saved the block and crank. Very stupid design on those, compared to the older 1.8t

I really do enjoy these type of informational type of videos. I may never pull apart a VR6 but do enjoy the knowledge transfer.
Thats the goal - informative more than anything. Plus if you do find yourself helping a buddy with a VR6 someday - you have a headstart haha
This video is taking me back to 1998 with my MKIII Ginster. I miss that car.
I love fcp euro media videos
Glad you enjoy the channel!

I trust a guy who starts with hand tools. You'll save yourself hours of frustration by not shearing/stripping bolts and screws by starting by hand.
Love this. Engine tear down's the ultimate "while you're in there" job.
That bit at the back of the block was for the tdi vr6. Brake vacuum pump

Great vid. You had me when I saw Vin was in it. I really enjoy his content.
12V VR6 content in 2024?! Awesome!
Fcp Euro always had the parts I needed for my VRT build! Start up should be next week! Nice job Vin! Can't wait to see the finished project!
Good luck - hope it turns over like a dream!
just came from outside working on my vrt 12v and saw this on my recommendation, definitely gonna follow this build!
My first 5 cars were old Volkswagens, now I want another one after this video series.
You should do it.... what would it be?
The MSD mod for the VR coil pack!!!
Vin and FCP! Looking forward to more content on this tear down.

I hope you guys do the intermediate bearings. Most people and shops overlook that part of a rebuild on this engines.

Love these videos! Almost have 300,000 original miles on mine and she still runs amazing, definitely a needy engine with maintenance though!
