  • Rick Bland started working for Hy-Vee when he was 16-years-old and moved up in the company for the next three decades. But earlier this month, he lost his job.

    Sad thing is u can get the word any time with no reason. It ain’t the way it usetob. In today’s world id have my options ready before the bomb went off !! Loyalty is different game in the dog eat dog of corporate life !!

    They say, thay are "Employee owned" yet they still have Board of Directors.

    Hy-Vee is doing things to strengthen there brand and cut costs. All company's do this.

    This thread is 2 years old, and Hy-Vee still operates in this manner. Collectively, Hy-Vee has to terminate at least 25 employees at the same time, before they have to give them notice. this is absolutely ridiculous... The magic number is 25, before Hy-Vee has to treat anybody like a *person*. 🙄

    Looking at this concept of "employee ownership". No Hy-vee in my area. But some other store that claims employee ownership.
    401k absolutely is Not "employee ownership".
    They also have smthg called an "S Corporation employee stock ownership program (ESOP)".
    Which I'm not familiar with.
    As I said, this other company claims employee ownership.
    But it seems to me, ownership would include being able meaningful participate in decisions as to how the company is run, with most say at the store one works at. Not just profit sharing. And not just a benevolent shift manager asking for your opinion on smthg.
