    My wife and I have them both, but we have made the Harbinger one of our daily pours. It is just so fantasticly layered and bold. We do love the Still Austin- just not daily. They are certainly different animals; each unique, delightful and intriguing. Texas does things their way, ya know?

    Fun review. My favorite part was at the beginning when Julie says 'we got some powerful ladies' and immediately Phil says 'with big....' and does something with his hands that had me laugh out loud!
    Thanks guys.😂

    It's good to see you reviewing TX whiskies and putting a couple head-to-head. I lived there for 10 years and have a soft spot for their products. I'd heard good things about Still Austin and am anxious to try it.
    Cheers, Phil & Julie!

    I was watching a new video of yours and noticed the Still Austin bottle on the shelf, so I searched to find this video. I have had them both and live only about an hour away from the Still Austin distillery. I have been there several times and all of the products I have had from them have been delicious. Unfortunately, the Ironroot Republic distillery is in Denison, about 4 hours north, so I haven't been there yet.

    Harbinger was my fave bottle of 2022. Absolutely wonderful whiskey. Tastes unlike anything I’ve ever had before.

    This was a fun head to head. I've not have the Harbinger, but you've peaked my interest. I picked up the Still Austin Cask Strength based on another of your videos I believe. I think you may have been on the road. Certainly not been disappointed with it. Crazy amount of flavor for the age. Shouldn't be surprised I guess...I believe the city motto is "Keep Austin Weird." Cheers!

    Ironroot is all corn, they don't use rye or barley, but they do use a wide variety of corn. That's one reason it's unique.

    • @Watchman999
      @Watchman999 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So how do they get that enzyme action going without the malted barley?

  • @89sooner
    @89sooner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wednesday night...seeing Metric in Dallas, Thursday and Friday...mostly Austin taprooms and lagers, but also the Still Austin tasting room (I wanna call their patio a biergarten) to try their new rye and have a cocktail, and then Saturday...the Ironroot tour, to finally, finally try Harbinger and some other stuff.

    It's easy to find Still Austin Cask Strength around here, but at $50 for a 2yro whiskey, I just haven't pulled the trigger. I need to find a place I can taste it first, but I do hear a lot of good things.

      Honestly, it's worth a shot even at that price, I think. It has Rare Breed levels of satisfaction in my opinion. - Phil

    Great job! I have a few TX whiskeys that I truly do not prefer. I had TX straight bourbon sent to me and it is so much better! Would love to get my hands on that Still Austin CS!

    Still Austin is good. Almost bought the cask strength but will definitely pick it up on my next run. The Still Austin has a front punch of juniper which I like. Cheers!

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Juniper! That's a great note. There was something so familiar about it, and we're surrounded by juniper trees in Central Oregon.

    Heck in Texas the Still Austin Cask Strength goes for $56 to $60. Where did you get it for $50?

    • @motohead077
      @motohead077 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It retails for $50 at most TW & I think that is the only store that sells them, other than at the distillery in Austin, TX.
      Though there are often 15% off coupons for all Still Austin products, so the Brl Prf is $42.50 + tax in NV.

      Both beautiful whiskeys. We haven't tried them side-by-side, but we should. They both drink very easy for their proof points.

    The price on the Still Austin CS has gone up pretty quick since it has become so popular on WhiskeyTube.
    When it first came out, it was only about $50 here in Texas, but now it's getting close to $70.
    I'm not really a fan of the typical Texas whiskey flavors, but the Still Austin CS doesn't have that,.... it's a good one.

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We got this one back in late April for $50 in Nevada. It's unfortunately not available in Oregon, so we haven't seen any other pricing on it. It's too bad it's getting pricier. It's a very good whiskey.

    I could tell which ones y’all were drinking based on the tasting notes. Ironroot and Garrison Brothers are both unbridled Texas whiskies. Still Austin has some nuance. Still Austin just started releasing cask strength single barrels and they are outstanding. Tons of variety barrel to barrel. Like they were made at different distilleries.
