  • I thought I would share how totally acceptable it is to game on a CRT in 2024 for cheap with a simple adapter. It's all about having fun and not feeling like you are priced out of the game. In this video I show how you can still game on a CRT TV affordably with simple adapter. No need to be shamed into buying only the best scallers and PMV sets...

CRT for life. My favorite one I own is my Trinitron used in field stations during Vietnam. Has the soldiers ID carved into it.

Wow! I wasn't expecting such beautiful quality. It kind of reminds me of the OG Animal Crossing on Game Cube

Yeah, and trust me when I say the captures of TLOZ and Animal Crossing did not come out very well. It looks sooo much better in person. Cheers!

@@RetroGamingNook Oh I believe it. I just picked up a black and white CRT a few days ago, the SNES looks great on it, haven't tried anything else yet haha.

Agree. It’s really all about preference. What’s right is what’s right for you and what helps you enjoy the game the best way possible. Thanks.

I don't own an HDTV. "God said 640x480". I appreciate when devs take the extra time to make it look good in HD. With EDTV resolutions like 848x480, it's the same aspect ration, and it's just a matter of dedoubling the pixels some number of times based on which native res. I watch youtube and use steam on a 840x480 plasma screen all the time despite the UI trying it's best to dissuade me. Just set it on SD and it looks great.

Thanks man really cool video. What do you think is the best way to replicate this on a regular flat screen ?

Like if I'm emulating.. for example

I have to say there are some incredible shaders out there that look great on a 4k display. My Mac is 5k and the limited shaders look pretty nice in the emulator I have. Try this for starters.

How can you say that the change in aspect ratio is "not that noticeable", when a portion of Link's health and one of three item slots are literally cut off by the edges of the screen?

    • @RetroGamingNook
      @RetroGamingNook  หลายเดือนก่อน

Well yeah it’s obvious that it’s obviously obvious. I had not done any adjustments to the screen size in the service menus yet. Watch the last bit. Or don’t. Thanks for watchin’ either way.

I'm actually tempted to get mine out the cupboard. I had a few, but my wife made me get rid of them over the year's.
I'm gutted she gave away my Sony CRT. 32" it was.
I think the one left in the cupboard is a Samsung.

If you are asking that question you're either only into gaming for TH-cam content everyone knows that a good CRT is the best way to relive that feeling of days gone by and childhood turn on every kid that is born as of right this second will never ever experienced snow on a TV screen and if they did they would still ask what it is who's your magical times when we use the CRT TVs there are only four channels you use for 5 or 7 in channel 3 was for the Nintendo

After working in TV for 15 years I will never be able to deal with the incorrect aspect ratio. I'm conditioned to notice it and think of it as bad 😥 but I love this video anyway. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and find a cheap widescreen CRT

Thanks for watching. I really do get it. I’m just trying to say it’s not the end of the world for someone with only are standard CRT. I do have a widescreen CRT too, it has just a touch of lag from image processing, but way better than just about any modern TV. Cheers!

It’s a Mitsubishi CS-35405 with a simple and cheap HDMI to S-Video adapter. They are about $20 on Amazon.
