Had the same problem on mine, replaced the thermostat switch on the radiator....still over heating, The whole problem was air in the system, Put tape around the end of a funnel till it's tight on the filler neck, put coolant in it til it has about an inch in the funnel, start and run the ATV a couple of heat cycles and keep adding fluid till no more air comes out. Worked for me.
you Gentleman, are the Man . just fix a Polaris 750 Sportman. it indeed was the issue. thank you very much just opened another beer in yor honor , heres to you . thank you very much
So I just picked up a 2001 polaris sportsman 500 ho and was doing some checks before my weekend ride I ran it yesterday long enough to unload it and today there is still a lot of pressure in the system and a bunch came shooting out of the radiator cap? Any ideas???
You say when the thermostat on the engine is unplug the fan should run but it did not on yours but you said that wasnt the problem? When I unplug it my fan does not kick on which makes me think that it is the problem. Can you clarify?
I have the same problem with my 00 sportsman 335. The hot oil light is on and the fan does not kick. If i jump the connector the fan will run but the light will not go off. Can it be fixed just replacing the temperature sensor?
I have a 06 sportsman 450. Showed "hot" on display. Fan was dead took it out and tested it on a 12 volt batt. And nothing. So ordered and replaced fan. Now no power to display. Cant find a fuse anywhere. I have power to pdm, ecm but nothing but ground coming out of pdm, ecm. Any ideas?
Lol i have. This year has no fuses as im told. I even kept looking after i was told and no fuses. Took switches apart cleaned them and put back and nothing. Im lost. Thank you for replying. Im leaning on aluminum finned pdm/ecm. Not very savy with the terms as far as elec.components
That is not proper way to fix. Actually isn't a fix. You will have fan running when it shouldn't. Will wear out fan prematurely. And engine likely won't get up to operating temp. Can be big issue if you got efi. That's not a thermostat. It's a temp switch. Get a new one.

Very helpful for those of us with lack of mechanical skills

Will it hurt to just have the fan run all the time, seems safer

Did you ever put a new temp sensor in? If so, did it start working as it should?
we did put a new sensor in and it worked as it should. also put a new fan in as the one in it was sad
You didn't have a short in the temp sensor, it was open.
Wold this be the same as a Polaris Magnum 325 4x4? fan won't turn on and I'm having a hard time figuring it out. Thanks

How did you turn the fan on

try playing with all your accessory switches like headlights. i flicked my headlight switch when i was driving once and lost all power to the atv

My fan won’t turn off what can that be
Mine was the fuse under the seat
