Oh, one more request! It would be great to do a comparison of MODERN equipment for beginners. Mark V and the Stiga Allround Classic still get recommended to beginners even though they were designed for the 38 mm ball in the 1960s and don’t perform well with the plastic balls. Let’s see how modern beginner rubber (Xiom Vega Intro, Yasaka Rigan) with modern Allround blades (Stiga Azalea, Xiom Allround S) compare to the classics. So many beginners are scouring the internet to research the proper setup for their first bat. This would be very informative.
Bryan Young Exactly as I am away from table tennis more than 20years and get back but the sport has evolved dramatically with 40+ ball and tensor things (even I need to goggling hahaha) . I am now happy with Butterfly Hadraw SK (all woods easy to use of being Limba-Aeyous I guess) paired with DHS H3 (non neo - not boosted) and Heger Grip SFX
As someone who started playing with Mark V(Max), during the 40+ ball era, i honestly still think it is a very good choice. Sure, it doesn't have a lot of speed but that forces you to use your hips and weight transfer in your shots. I started playing with a Yasaka Silver All-wood with Mark V on both sides, i currently use DHS Skyline 2 Neo on my forehand and Friendship Battle 2 on my backhand
For straight up beginners just give them a 5 ply or 7 ply all wood blade with yasaka rakza 7, xiom vega, donic barracuda or butterfly rozena on both sides (whichever is cheaper, they are all the same). As they become more advanced, upgrade to the harimoto ALC. There is really no need for more speed than the innerforce, even Ma Long and Wang Chuqin still use innerforce blades. After that its just a technique and timing issue, not the blade. Once they get to intermediate advanced level you can start experimenting with tacky forehand rubbers like Hurricane 3 or dignics 09c, and butterfly rubbers like tenergy 05 or dignics 05 if you prefer the same rubber on both sides.
It's the same blade with a different handle... I guess the handle difference makes a minimum difference it's almost unnoticeable. I have both blades. Also de zjk alc it's the same.
Dear Dan, Please try to make a conclusion summary at the end of each comparison focusing on the main issues: Speed, Spin, Control, Blocking and Serving. Many Thanks.
Hi Dan, Thanks for the comparison as always with so much of details. People still believe. VISCARIA is the best. VISCARIA is also adapted by many Chinese and Japanese women team as Well. After the new launch of Lin Gaoyuan Alc, players are confused now to which one to pick. Kindly compare VISCARIA VS Lin Gaoyuan Alc in deatail comparison which will be helpful for all the subscribers. Thanks in advance🏓 & you are best in TT.
vishal wadhwa can viscaria be used by an intermediate player? I have 3 years of experience and I showed clips of my strokes to table tennis advisory on Instagram and he told me to get viscaria with rozena on fh and tenergy 80 on bh
I`m an intermediate player and i ordered the boll alc. my technique isn`t always consistent, but i have started to do shadow play drills to learn my strokes my muscle memory
Thanks a lot Dan for the comparison .. in fact I have ZJK ALC (similar to Timo Boll or Viscaria construction) and when you did the review on Harimoto blade I bought Hadraw SK (all woods with Limba & Aeyous - I guess) .. ZJK ALC stands out in serving (even with rubber like Mark V) also directness of its nature .. Hadraw SK is very good on the table and control department (the latter paired with DHS H3 Provincial + Andro Hexer Grip SFX) .. all above were based on personal views ya ..
I see many requests for many more comparisons with many blade types! I believe it may not be properly answered here. The focus is towards the new transition to woody feel with Limba outer layer(s) instead of Koto keeping the carbon sheet inner to have more feel and control shots. For example recently Dan has reviewed Donic Ovtcharov Ultra Senso 1 blade, which may represent the similar feeling like Harimoto ALC. There are many more examples like this.
I use ZLC and I know Innerforce ALC quite a lot since my team mate uses it. I'm quite satisfied with ZLC for sometimes I feel like it lacks power at the top end when smashing or power looping. However, ALC is just a bit faster but has a more pleasant/woody feeling and softer than ZLC. So apart from the size and weight, is it HT quite faster than regular IF.ALC? I also would like to know the measurement of the FL handle and blade weight distribution (feels head heavy?)
Quick question, what would you suggest for blade and rubbers for a new player - I'm a decent chop player out the gate. I've been playing around a month, VR, and at work with a friend. We are getting good fast! We can chop, and snake, and emulate pro players - good rallies... I can motion juggle so that helps - anyways bought the boll alc and a terngy 05 and a hard last night. I know I can get used to it... figure it won't hold me back too much in the long long run. BUT is it worth getting a max control, dwell, spin racket too. $2-400 is a good price point if someone could some blades and rubbers,, maybe the Harmoto ALC but figure there's something better for practice focus. - unless you think long term learning wont be TOO bad with pro setup. Thanks for any suggestions/thoughts.
can you compare butterfly innerforce style blades vs Andro Treiber FI which i think is Andros version of Innerforce with 2 layers of wood outside the carbon. i think you tried the Treiber FO with Damien Eloi but thats 1 layer of wood outside the carbon. hope you still have more time doing these reviews/comparisons
I hope that you say abouth control is corect . My dilema is not yet finished and control is very important for me (hoby player) . Price is VERY high and harimoti is higher than timo 15-20 euro .no space for mistake.
Hi. I also have an AZXi and recently bought a Lin Gaoyuan ALC, similar to Boll ALC. I felt LG quicker but still controllable in middle distance shots, but you have to be very precise with your shots close to the table. The feeling with AZXi was not as good as I expected. ALC un one side and ZLC in the other side don't feel any different. What do you think? By the way, I've tried xiom, Tibhar and butterfly rubbers with similar results.
Hi Dan, all woods blade please .. I knew that some top players still use all woods like Simon Gauzy, Hugo Calderano .. Butterfly has introduced Wenge (Hadraw VR & SR) likewise Andro with Wenge veneer (9 ply?)
Hi Dan your videos are interesting but it would be good if you can review some new equipments like hurricane long 5 or xiom rubbers or darker blades rather than just looping butterfly blades
Hello Dan, I know you get bucketfuls of review requests all the time, but it would be amazing if you did a dimitrij ovtcharov inner force alc blade review, I heard it’s like a mix of these two solid blades by butterfly? Thank you :)
Hello! I am writing to you from Ukraine. I am a big fan of your work. You have played Butterfly Franziska Innerforce ZLC. This is my dream, but there is a war in our country. But we will believe in the future. Would you recommend the Butterfly Franziska Innerforce ZLC to an amateur or not. Is it possible to better Harimoto ALC. Thank you for attention.
Hey Dan, and also others! I've played for 7 years now, and I play six times a week. I have developed a lot as a player, and I play at a quite high level, although there's still a long, long way to the pro players. My question is, are these ALC blades too difficult to handle for a amateur player like me? Or should I go with another blade, for example, the Butterfly Petr Korbel. Thank you. :)
Hey man, I started played table tennis a couple months ago and play 4 times a week using a viscaria with tenergy 05 & developing very quickly. So you should have no problem at all using a ALC blade. Tried the harimoto blade and it's so forgiving and easy to use (and i'm buying it haha).
Dan. I am still waiting for you too review the Dhs long series blade (malong blade). I will still wait until death hehe. Especially now there a new version that just come the Long 5x it would really if there like a comparison with w968 haha .
