I just wanted to compliment your audio. Thinking back, I don't recall you having nearly as many issues as most of the other creators I watch. Audio is very important, as you say, but it really only becomes noticeable when it goes wrong. Thus you should probably take any non-criticism on the topic to be implicit praise.

In relation to your 24-200 lens. Sounds like you have a pretty special and intimate relationship with this lens, and if you ever lost it would almost be comparable to losing a loved one........ 👀.. I find it hilarious that everytime you pick it up , you extend it.. 😂. Great channel, videos help me a lot. 👍🏻

Thank you Henry. As a former gear junkie, this is a brilliant video for me to watch. I have been gradually selling stuff, online, Facebook, part exchanging with MPB, etc. Upgrading to a lower resolution camera, if that makes sense to anyone? I've thinned out the amount of camera bodies, lenses and so on. It always breaks my heart to see stuff go, but then I have to remember, did I actually use that camera, that lens, that whatever else to any great degree? When you have a professional such as yourself highlighting what you actually need to produce the results that you achieve it makes me feel better. I like to think of myself as a budding landscaper or wildlife photographer. Two cameras, three lenses, L brackets, a tripod and one adjustable filter only now. All I need now is something to sleep in with some level of comfort. I need a Blue Jay!!! Thanks again for this video.

You can't make a bad video. I like how much you can do with your tripod and ball head. Quality information on your gear. To use your words, "absolute class."👍

I'm watching this at midnight before an early rise to go backpacking around the Ben Nevis range while the coronation is on. I should be in bed but I couldn't resist a Henry vlog! I have a similar set of gear but without the video elements - A LowePro 45L pack with Olympus MFT camera. I take a 18-36FFE wide angle that doesn't often get used and a 24-90FFE that does most of the work. I also have either a 90-375 FFE tele zoom or a 150-600 if I think wildlife might put in an appearance. My filters consist of a polarizer, 4 and 6-stop NDs and 3-stop hard and soft grads. I tried the Peak clip but didn't like it so I use a 2 inch wide shoulder strap if I need a fast response, but mostly the camera stays in the bag till needed. The tripod has a levelling head and I use spikes almost all the time. and an L-bracket(along with the levelling base) is a panoramic game-changer! Looking forward to your next adventures. Oh yes, and Paramo waterproofs, another game changer!

Two important reasons to have the L-bracket: 1. the camera stays optically centered and 2. the tripod doesn't get unstable.

Hope you've fully recovered now. It's always interesting to see what photographers take in their bags, and a nice simplified set up you have there. I'm of the same mind, don't like buying, let alone carrying extraneous kit that's not neede.
Now I'm only running a Nikon D7500, Nikon 50mm f/1.8G, Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro (both for landscape, urban, and day to day photography), plus a Sigma 150-600mm Conteporary for bird photography.
Looking forward to next weeks video.

You should go out with just the drone. I do this from time to time. I do both rgb and infrared photography with 2 cameras and a bunch of glass in my bag. Sometimes I'll just grab one camera one lens and set the challenge. A bit like your jpeg day out.

  • @wellsyboy

Just in case people are wondering - I don't think you can use the peak design capture system with the L bracket - it will only work with the dedicated plate. I suppose you could attach that to the L bracket but then it would not sit right and you would have to remove it to use the L bracket on your tripod.

  • @mattscott573

I agree about the lens Henry. I pretty much stick with my Sigma 18-200mm when I'm out shooting landscapes (though I do still carry the 10-20mm just in case) used on my trusty D7200. The range is so flexible and means it's ready for pretty much any situation!
Hope the head's feeling better soon! 😁
Incidentally, it came up on my memories that a year ago today I had the 1:1 day with you. Still trying to finesse everything you taught me 👍

Good video! I’d also recommend a ‘spudz’ lens wipe cloth - super handy. And good tripod, but checkout the Ulanzi Zero Y Lightweight Travel Tripod - only 1.1kg and folds really neatly. Has similar features (removable column, locking head, etc.) but so much lighter.

  • @jonstout7635

I keep saying, "This is the last lens" - then it takes maybe a week or two when I'm considering "one more". I did convince myself after converting to the Z system, that I don't need a macro. I never used my f mount macro that often for its primary purpose. Thanks for the tip on the 10 stop ND, and for reminding me that a few scratches and a bit of sludge is not fatal to your gear.

Sometimes it good to let the hair down Henry and hope you are recovered from your stag trip. The 24-200 appears to be a popular choice and see numerous photographers having this in their set up. Shooting mainly architecture these days I changed from my 5Div to the EOS R for the fully articulating screen as it now makes my life so much easier and will be a key feature when the time comes to change cameras in the future

Hi Henry, another interesting video and thanks for sharing. Ah the heady days of the D7200, how we remember those with fondness. As for changing the Z7, just be sure it doesn't suffer the same fate as good old trusty DSLR. I hope you're a little more chipper soon mate, the trouble with booze is that before you know it you're a lightweight, but at least you'll avoid the big red nose and look like you swallowed a football. The issue with being a lightweight is that "2 pints, your anybody's" ... and "3 pints you're everybody's!" Looking forward to the next expedition ...

@@tonygreenwoodN10 Nothing odd about the name - It's an "ell" bracket, after all! LOL I'm just amazed they have one for the Canon 850D. That is THE FIRST, ONE AND ONLY L bracket designed specifically for the 850D that I've seen. Period. I bought a Sunway (?) universal "ellie" and it works fine, but it's mounted off center to allow the battery door to open. Although as a result it does make for a nice "handle" on the camera.
