Nominalizations are sometimes important in explaining complex and abstract subjects, so people nominalize on purpose when needed. People in academia nominalize to further explain complex and abstract subjects, so people nominalize on purpose when needed.
dear , there are so many videos to eliminate nominalization but nobody is ready to teach nominaliztion. And we know that in formal writing is much important.
Really? Written academic English and formal English would require a student to demonstrate it. The US are clueless when it comes to formal literary constructions. What this person is presenting sounds like spoken language and as an examiner I can tell you that you' will score lower on every proficiency test if you follow this ill considered advice. Whimpy? I think not. Try using industrialisation and make that active. If you tried to use anything other than the nominalisation then you would only reduce the quality of the text. Her explanation is actually what's whimpy here as it lacks any knowledge at all of the relationship of nominalisation to formal written English.
Right??? I'm teaching this topic to advanced ESL students because nominalization is important in academic writing. It's in the curriculum! How is that whimpy??
Interestingly, my PhD studies has us moving away from nominalizations - or perhaps better stated - over-nominalization. Certainly there are specific instances where the nominalization is the preferred vocabulary, but not so in other situations. The point the English teacher, in this video, is making is sound.
