Born in Belfast 1974,knew nothing else apart from the violence left for Western Australia in 2000 only until then did a realize what a normal life was ! Can't say i miss the place !
Born in 62 and the street running across the top Hardcastle st was Ashbourne st where I lived. can actually see the house no 23. Such fond childhood memories of Donegall Pass like most areas back then had a wonderful community spirit.
Not many entertainers wanted to come to Belfast, couldn’t really blame them. However Joe Dolan and The Drifters came up regularly and they had faithful fans from both sides of the divide. His shows were brilliant and just for a few hours helped us to forget the daily horrors and atrocities. Rest in Peace Joe. ❤
Umm, close one, let's compare. Now...Waterfront Hall, Odyssey Arena with a Champion Ice Hockey team playing to a packed crowd every home game in between fantastic proper arena shows, Titanic Belfast's award winning attraction, the revamped Opera House staging west end touring productions, Waterfront hall being a staple for most touring comedians, Victoria Square shopping centre, countless modern hotels, restaurants, bars and a busy city centre at the weekend. Compared to the splendour of 1974 and it's bombed out buildings, bombed out Opera House that no west end show would visit, bombed out Europa hotel as the only hotel left, concerts at the Kings Hall, woefully equipped for the few who were willing to play Belfast, the city centre and it's ring of steel, which virtually left the city as a ghost town by 5.30pm every night. Yeah, yer right, a shadow of how great it was in 1974. Like London in 1942 was so much more fun than it is now.
For me, then a regular visitor on the enterprise from dublin, was no footage of the cordon round the much then bombed europa hotel and its security hut!!
You can see the northern bank being built in the still of Donegal square west, right hand side of the city hall as you face the front (danske bank now)
I was a student in Belfast around that time, from a rural Western Co so found it quite scary though my aunt had a shop near the Royal so I at least had someone there.
@@herrbela84 How did they get an East German car across the Berlin Wall in 1973/74 I wonder. Is it the white car driving up the road at the start that is the wartburg?
Our Belfast is disappearing before Our very eyes. so many happy memories and the people you couldn't get anywhere..

I left Belfast in 1965, aged 23 for Australia. I never ever got back to see it again but I have the memories of my young life there.

@@j2msu341 But as you said yourself, You only knew Belfast during a dark period in it's history. It is a hugely different place 23 years later.

Bet they still have their British passport though
I was working in Belfast back then. They were very scary times.

I was born in Belfast in 1971, I still visit or pass through there every other week, it's so much better now do you not think?
Belfast has died a death, it's a hole now.

I was born in Belfast in 1974. Very poignant to watch this. How things have changed, looks almost like a different planet.

Place looks like Gaza thanks to the ira, not to mention the innocent people’s lives they took and destroyed, eternal shame on them.
It was a disgrace what they started ... 😥
You should be proud of yourself for being hard as nails now l no I am proud of you ❤❤❤

A Wartburg at the beginning...
I've heard of Wartburg Castle in Germany 🇩🇪. What's a wartburg in Belfast?
