The lost generation.
My mum worked in there . We lived in Greenmount street.
In researching my family history, I found that I had lost a family in this disaster. Hubert James Moore, his wife Martha nee Gooding and their son Victor Hubert. Very interesting to hear them mentioned here.
Fluffy as F,,, 😢
Interesting bit of history.
My great grandfather, was killed at langemarc, he was a 40 year old trench mortar man in the 10th Batt ROYAL INNISKILLING FUSILIERS, a Londonderry man
Hi, I'm very interested to learn more about a Mr John Walker, who was the manager of the Magherafelt branch at a time. Does anyone know where I could find more information about him? Thank you

Not many entertainers wanted to come to Belfast, couldn’t really blame them. However Joe Dolan and The Drifters came up regularly and they had faithful fans from both sides of the divide. His shows were brilliant and just for a few hours helped us to forget the daily horrors and atrocities. Rest in Peace Joe. ❤
That went way too fast to see!
Ymca facing the athletic stores, if you weren’t old enough to get into a pub or club about the only other place you could have a game of snooker.
Place looks like Gaza thanks to the ira, not to mention the innocent people’s lives they took and destroyed, eternal shame on them.
It was a disgrace what they started ... 😥
You can see the northern bank being built in the still of Donegal square west, right hand side of the city hall as you face the front (danske bank now)
Remember, this destruction was brought about as a result of sectarianism. Don't forget that.
I am not happy with the way the park was taken over , Col Pakenham gave the park to the people of Crumlin, never to be sold and belong to the village. I did see the documents but somehow, they were lent to someone , and they disappeared, and the council now owns it, the arch way memorial now moved , the way the council acquired it is very under hand and very very😅 shady
Sad to see all that destruction! I left there in 1965, never been back. I have lovely memories!
I rode on that train when I was a kid. Used to go to Ballygowan a bit. Also to Newcastle a couple of times. A disgrace that the UTA shut it down in such haste. I also went to Newcastle on the GNR route near the end. Cheers from Australia.
A shit hole will always be a shit hole .
That’s brilliant! Amazing how much of the old route is still visible.
Fascinating. Shame all that railway infrastructure was taken away. Belfast to Comber route looks as if it would suitable to run something like the Dublin LUAS. Just needs straightened a bit at some parts. Would certainly help with all the traffic congestion coming into bottle necks on King's Road and Upper Newtownards Roads, especially with all the new developments in Comber.
crazy to see how much Crumlin has changed
Brilliant video would have loved to have taken that rail journey but nothing stays the same 😢
Very good. My mother worked as a cleaner for them in the early '70s. They were very generous and gave her a beautiful fur coat as a gift. Kind Jews. May they find peace in this hard world.
Born in 62 and the street running across the top Hardcastle st was Ashbourne st where I lived. can actually see the house no 23. Such fond childhood memories of Donegall Pass like most areas back then had a wonderful community spirit.
You should be proud of yourself for being hard as nails now l no I am proud of you ❤❤❤
From a time when people actually cared about each other.
The hand for Tom Scott is now gone, at least two years. Shame.
Thank you for sharing this. My great grandfather was Samuel McReynolds. I'm told he was the chief electrical engineer onboard. I've been trying to find information or photos about him on Ancestry for a couple of years now since i found out about the diaster and just happened to find this video. Seafaring must run in the family because I'm an electrical engineer in the maritime industry as well. I also never knew where were he was buried so thank you for letting me know, I'll make the effort to visit his grave and pay my respects.
Nice
And Mr Kipling from the Waterside, Londonderry. My father, his colleague in Welch Margetson, also travelling back from a meeting at the London HQ, crossed to Belfast from Heysham the same day but survived.
I attended a funeral in Carnmoney jewish cemetery recently. First I've been there since the 60's.
The company also had a mill in Muckamore, Co. Antrim. Some of my family worked in the mill.
Interesting, but did you miss Tullymurray. An important halt for troops going to Ballykinler.
Yes, indeed. Sorry, I did miss Tullymurry station and Ballykinlar halt as well. My apologies.
An amazing video. "Photographs by Ken Sims" - Did this Ken happen to live in Finaghy in his teens and go to Inst?
Sorry, I don't know. He is on Facebook.
Very informative and great old archive photos too. Nicely done sir!
I left Belfast in 1965, aged 23 for Australia. I never ever got back to see it again but I have the memories of my young life there.
Born in Belfast 1974,knew nothing else apart from the violence left for Western Australia in 2000 only until then did a realize what a normal life was ! Can't say i miss the place !
@@j2msu341 But as you said yourself, You only knew Belfast during a dark period in it's history. It is a hugely different place 23 years later.
@@j2msu341ran away you mean ??
Bet they still have their British passport though

Such a shame to have lost this railway, hard to believe that in the 1950s the train took 15 mins from comber to queens quay, now the bus schedule time is 55 minutes in rush hour, that's progress!
Thank you for a very interesting video, especially the Barbour Street part. My Grandparents (Francis & Mary McCormick) lived on the street during the attack , moving to Dandy Street afterwards and then returning back once the house was sorted out .... In your video you were unsure of its location, it was just passed the fireplace shop and on the same side the new motorway bridge is built on top of the road.
Fantastic 👌!! Do not waste your time - P R O M O S M !!
The 59 Up the Lisburn Rd to The Kings Hall and Balmoral Show Grounds.
Wonderful
So sad. We cannot imagine what it must have been like
Love learning about Belfast local history.
My dad was born in the 125 Hyndford Street house 1930 ! John Ivan Hoey first child Robert and Mary Hoey. He was Always amused Van Morrison also lived there!
Would love to see more of videos like this!!
Fascinating , love learning about the history of residents.lived in area as a child
For me, then a regular visitor on the enterprise from dublin, was no footage of the cordon round the much then bombed europa hotel and its security hut!!
Interesting. My great grandparents were Muckles from Ballyhay. I found my way to this video trying to find out whether my grandmother Martha Muckle (1888 - 1966) went to school at Ballyvester Primary School. I am also trying to find the location of the ancestral Muckle farm, probably somewhere on Ballyhay Road, Donaghadee. The first grave in the video , Dr Joseph Martin, may the father of my uncle Joe who married my aunt Sadie (Sarah Muckle from Ballyhay) . If any Sloans from Donaghadee read this, I found the grave of James Finley Sloan (Finley misspelt as Finlay) in Ruatoria cemetery in New Zealand. I purchased his war file but don't have a photo. James was wounded a number of times at Gallipoli but drowned in NZ a few years after WWI and is buried in Ruatoria Cemetery in the north east of New Zealand. The 1911 census says James' father was a Flesher (butcher) in Donaghadee.
Samuel mcreynolds was my great grandfather I've recently learned about the history. Thankyou for the information and photos. God bless
Hi Jordan, Samuel McReynolds was my great grandfather as well (I'm told he was the Chief electrical officer onboard). His daughter Sandra (Alexandra) Reynolds was my grandmother. I only found out about the MV Princess Victoria 2 years ago when my grandad just happened to mention to the disaster. Seafaring must run in the family cause I'm an electrical engineer in the maritime industry as well. What a coincidence that I just happened to find this video and your comment.
