- Hello. This week we look at a 214 Ford Fiesta that won't start. The RAC recommended us to look at the key problem but it turned out to be the electrical switch.
This is a common problem on Ford Fiesta cars and other Ford models.
Changing the electrical switch is cheap and easy and we show you how.
I had this exact issue with my fiesta, I was thinking id need to have it towed to a garage. I came across this video and figured id give it a try as I had nothing to lose. It worked! Was inexpensive and easy enough to fit. Thank you so much for sharing!

Had this problem intermittently on a 2016 Fiesta and was scratching my head, watched this video, bought and fitted a new switch, problem solved. Thank you The Car Key Man.

Thank you it was easy fix for me. Saved me few hundreds of euros that dealership wanted to "see" what is the problem and 2 days without a car.

exactly the problem I had , was really worried about getting it fixed,saw this video,got the part form Amazon next day delivery for just over £11 and fitted in all in under 20 minutes, removing and replacing the cowling took the most of the time ( need a funny shaped scewdiver head that I did have in my tool kit), the actual swap over of the part was 2 minutes. saved me a lot of money, many thanks.

Hi I have fiesta mk7 1.2 petrol 2011 it has same problem but there is red light flashing on the dashboard will this work for mine if I change that part

Hi Steve, yeah my wife's Fiesta has this problem, I've taken the switch off, it's a AA6T-11572-BA, 2011 Fiesta 1.4 automatic. Now I see many AA6T-11572-AA switches for sale. Any idea what the difference is between the AA and the BA apart from the BA seems to have a small box stuck on the back?
not sure to be honest, the correct part from the dealer is very cheap
@@TheCarKeyMan anyway after searching the internet i contacted a Ford Parts Dealer in Plymouth. They had a perfect match. The car works fine now, even drives better, the cars computer must be so happy.

we found out that one of 4 ignition starks isn't working, after change all of them, the problem with spark was gone,but the defect still persisted. The P.C. showed that we have a poor gasoline burning fuel. So it is or too many air from somewhere, then the gasoline pump,either it could be when we tryied to start the car that it turned too far the belt of the motor,so the cycle of motor runs in different way and spark comes before or after the inlet of gasoline.

Hi Philip, I'm not sure to be hones, but that switch fitted to both Fiesta and Mk7 Transits, so I'm assuming it fits other cars
Found this video while looking up this exact problem on my 2017 Fiesta. It was an intermittent thing I didn't give much thought about shortly after I bought the car, but suddenly depeloped a persistent problem with starting just over a month after buying it.
Took it back to the garage as under warranty, they replaced the ignition barrel and problem was still there, then replaced the steering column too. Problem seemed to disappear, but its beginning to show its ugly head again.
Any ideas why replacing the column might have temporarily fixed it? I'm a little worried this simple switch replacement might not be the fix my car needs
HI, if they replaced the column then I expect the they should have replaced this switch. Not sure what it cold be sorry
@@TheCarKeyMan I bought it from a Renault dealership, who told me there was nothing more they could do to try and fix the problem, and if it happened again they would need to send it to the Ford dealer along the road (fair enough their guys are Renault specialists and dont necessarily know Ford problems that well). Anyway, it went to Ford who say it was the ignition switch after all.
It's been replaced, so fingers crossed no more problems. If it does reappear I'll be heading straight back to this video to do the fix myself. According to the paperwork I was given, the second repair cost the garage over £200 in parts and labour. I dread to think what their costs were for the initial work, which appears to have all been in vain!

Hey my wife had this exact same issue today.. I saw this video and found the cause of the issue straight away.. Since it's weekend I popped the part open.. There is a ball and another part that is loose inside.. I put the ball on the little spring where it's ment to go and the other piece it it's hole.. And put it back together.. (upside down) and fixed the issue... At least for now

Really helpful have exact problems, was told need new barrel rubbish, auto lock Smith wanted £500 to do job rip off.

Thanks again changed it today took 15mins can you belive ford wanted to charge £300. So easy to do yourself, cost me £25,genuine ford part, solved problem 👍😊💷
I have this exact problem but the difference with my car is a keyless entry, it has a power button to start the car. Does it have the same switch?

@@TheCarKeyMan. Hi thanks very much got one from Amazon for £11.69. A Ten min job. You saved me £100 + part. Was quoted that by Auto electrician who said he would need to run a full diagnostic check. Replaced the switch today all ok. have been to my local sop and dropped a tenner into the Air Ambulance collection box in your channels name .

Hello, Nice Video mate my 2011 Ford Fiesta has a problem I can't start the car anymore,
I have my dashboard running + Radio , but I can set my key further than what you said all the lights shine and I have the red central one blinking, I was thinking it would be something else than this switch , But really desperate on finding the issue.
She doesn't crank btw
I was thinking maybe there would be a switch to re engage the Fuel injection or something but came across your video and maybe could give it a try as I don't find the ignition re engagement switch.
I've already tried with an other battery with no luck the car doesn't want to start, anyway good video :)

Hi, well the switch is important because it allows power to the rest of car. I guess if the switch is intermittent, then this may cause the car to cut out. They are only £25 from Ford so worth a go
Same issue with mine 🤔 swapped the starter switch, fine for a few weeks .. now it only starts when it wants .. although everytime I replace the battery I have no issues for a week or so 😫 any ideas ? Did have an alternator issue ( putting out 16.5 ) but had the fixed 😕
Hi Sarah. The key battery doesn't have any influence on the car starting, or at least it shouldn't have. When it won't start, does it crank? Does the engine try and start?
The Car Key Man it does absolutely nothing mate , not even a tick , just hear electrical stuff like pumps ect .. I’ve noticed if I knock the starter switch with a pole it starts but I think that’s just a fluke .. had no trouble with it yesterday taking it to a garage , then the guy in the garage calls me to say it won’t start 😂 no sugar Sherlock 😂
I’ve noticed my immobiliser stays on and the steering lock when I have trouble staring it :/

Hi, Ive got a problem similar with with my Ford Ranger; but the difference is that when the Key is on position (II) most of dashboard error occurs and no stating, so i need to re.insert the keys and those errors will not display anymore, engine will start eventually, any thoughts on this sir?
Hi Jason, so when you get the error, are you saying you turn off the ignition and then turn it back on and the problem goes away?
@@TheCarKeyMan Yes exactly, and when the engine runs, back to normal and no error codes. I had already brought this case to the delearship for service but even their Diagnostics cannot figure out yhe specific cause, they replaced the starter relay but still problem exists. Btw, It all started when the stock battery drained and replaced with different brand with higher ampheres now.

I’ve got a mk7 Ford fiesta 2008 same shape as that car 😅the immobiliser light is constantly flashing when turning key and the car won’t start I’ve checked all the fuses and relays and I’ve sent the instrument cluster off and it came back with no faults but still won’t start I’ve plugged the car in myself and I have 9 fault codes could this be my issue please help 😂😂

Hi Harry, no the old key will be fine. Just change the switch on the back and the key stays coded to the lock.

Not even 5 years old and my wife's 2016 ford fiesta is having this issue, meanwhile my 1998 chrysler hasn't encountered this yet.
Wondering if this will be a every 4-5 year fiasco.

Mine does that but I have a clocking sound and then I can put it in neutral and it will start sometimes I thought it was something with the starter I am confused now to see all these other people show videos of different things

We have a 2015 Fiesta and the key turns all the way to start and everything on the dash lights up, my son can hear a click under the hood but it doesn't crank or start. I rolled it in neutral to a couple of different positions thinking it might be the starter motor going bad and still nothing. He was getting a weird "Key not detected" warning but doesn't get that now. We also thought it might be a weak battery so we tried jump starting from my car and nothing. I can try this little switch in your video but since it's clicking under the hood when he turns the key to start, it seems like it is making the start connection. Any ideas?

HI, if the key is not detected, then it won't crank, but it also sounds like something else is going on to. I would get a local Auto Locksmith to check the keys out, but I can't think what the problem will be. Have you changed the switch?
