    i have used mine for 6 months..never bent..even after missing a half cut bottle on a tree stump. My only issue is that it came sorta not super sharp. However its one of the best swords i ever held.

    I'm a miao dao guy for sure and this sword has been high on my list for some time. Soon enough I shall have it in my hands.

    This miaodao is one of my favorites. I have a Tongbei Pigua form I learned from a friend on a katana.. Makes much more sense when using a properly spec'd miaodao. Great video, Sifu Kuttel!

      This sword is incredible! I'm sure there's a weight difference, but otherwise how does it compare to the Ming Chang Dao?

    • @saberserpent1134
      @saberserpent1134 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SifuKuttel The chang dao is much heavier; the miaodao is definitely the more nimble of the two. The miaodao, imo, is a great weapon to counter spears and other polearms, whereas the chang dao has amazing cutting ability, but it's much more difficult to recover cuts, due to weight. I would say the chang dao is exclusively an anti-cavalry weapon. The miaodao has more potential for applications, imo. The chang dao is an amazing two-hand saber, but it takes a very strong individual to weild it properly. The miaodao's weight and balance is much more forgiving. 🙏

    It's beautiful. I love it. But I think LK chen has some QC issues specially with the fittings. But that seems to be the same with any manufacturers like CAS Hanwei or Cold Steel.

      @@SifuKuttel I like the historical piece you provided. It gives context to something that could probably be dismissed as “a cool looking weapon.” I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s gorgeous - but knowing where it came from, its architectural inspiration, lends to the significance of the weapon itself. I think the origins of weaponry in general, whether or not they’re Asiatic in nature, are often overlooked for the sake of aesthetics. When I learned that kamas were a farming tool, it totally changed the fluidity of my forms.

    Nice sword.
    That sword looks like a Chinese version of a Katana.
    1:14 That story about a Japanese swordsman caught my interest. I wasn't going to write the following, but something tells me, he learned a chinese sword technique probably called the "swallow cut," using that same sword you have, and probably discovered, or rediscovered the "reverse swallow cut."

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Who knows! Unfortunately, his true technique and the origin of the reverse swallow cut are lost to time...

      @Kid-A2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To bad he died to Miyamoto Musashi. It's said he used this technique and cut Miyamoto's headband! But couldn't cut the forehead. He died because his skull was crushed by a wooden sword.

    I bought one 2 years ago and it was really good. I hope they make some tachi soon, cuz I find it a bit hard to draw the sword out (it's so long), and the curve of the tachi would help me out with this problem, though it sure will be heavier, it's still going to be a long sword with long handle so. I hope they make a tachi

    Hi Sifu Kuttel
    Since you get a lot of swords from lkchen, I wanted to ask if there's anything to know about when importing a sharp sword from china regarding swiss customs.
    I know they aren't considered weapons by swiss law but maybe it's still a good idea to declare it? much thanks in advance :)

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand, swords are legal to possess without having to declare, unlike firearms and self defense type weapons. It is explained here: www.ch.ch/en/safety-and-justice/owning-a-weapon-in-switzerland/#how-to-store-weapons and there is a list of what is legal, what requires declaration, and what is illegal www.fedpol.admin.ch/dam/fedpol/de/data/sicherheit/waffen/Brosch%C3%BCre/waffenbroschuere-d.pdf however, I have had to declare each sample to pay the federal import tax on the value so purchasers in Switzerland should keep that in mind when budgeting the overall cost.

    • @deminthorh156
      @deminthorh156 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SifuKuttel Thank you for your response! Why did you have to declare the value for the federal import tax yourself though? Doesn't the transport firm, in this case UPS, normally clear the customs for you? Or are you maybe getting it transferred to and then delivered by the Swiss Post once it reaches Switzerland, and declare it yourself?
      I've just started getting to know the procedures of international shipping so apologies for the inquiring.

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deminthorh156 I can't speak for all carriers, but I have used both Swiss poste and UPS and in both cases I am responsible to pay the import tax upon entry, even before the package is delivered. It is nothing unusual here, and I have to do the same for gifts from family abroad.

    I think China should revive the Hanfu in martial arts. Today's Chinese martial arts clothing is the Manchu clothing since the Qing Dynasty, and Chinese history is dominated by the Han nationality, so the Hanfu is orthodox. In fact, the Japanese kendo clothing evolved from the traditional Chinese martial arts clothing. In the aspect of Chinese kendo culture, Chinese kendo takes the Hanfu as the martial costume, while Japanese kendo takes the Japanese kimono as the martial costume. At present, China has not been able to replace the Manchu-style Taiji costume with traditional martial costume, but Chinese folk are also making such improvements

      That's not an easy one to choose, they are really quite different. The Miao Dao is very light and quite agile, the Tang Zhan Ma Dao has goood leverage, power, and control...

    I've been practicing the Chinese WW2 Dadao for many years. Recently I've seen many videos on the Miao Dao. I believe the Miao Dadao will become my favorite blade. Do you know of a decent non sharp practice Miao Dao? I don't have facility to practice. So I use the public park, so a not too sharp version would be a start. The Silver Swallow will be a purchase later once I've learned the movements.

    Hi Kuttle sifu, I noticed that you used the Cantonese pronunciation when describing the wood used on the handle and scabbard. Just thought I'd chime in as a Cantonese speaker myself, when you see the jyutping romanization of "翼", it's often spelled "jik". The letter j in this case is meant to be pronounced as the letter y, like in the word "yellow". Not a huge deal, I just thought I'd point that out. Great review!
