    I had a great white swim under me while surfing in half Moon Bay. It was huge.. probably, 17 to 20 ft. I had nightmares for years and never surfed again.

    It's good that your shark stories don't result in injury. The closest I've ever come to that was kayaking near Bainbridge Island in the Seattle area. I had a pod of Orcas swim up behind me and I didn't see them. Next thing I know, a dorsal fin about three feet long goes by inches from my kayak on the right. Without even thinking, I reached out and touched it. It was only after that that I wondered if Orcas were ticklish and if they are, did I just unintentionally tickle an Orca? It's still one of my favorite memories. Thanks for taking the time to share your shark stories with us!

      Not in Asia, though.
      Our ancestors killed shitloads of sharks to make soup and they continue to be harvested. Good for swimmers, I guess, but bad for the ecosystem.
      Japan might be an exception. There are tiger sharks in Okinawa, and great whites used to be common until their food sources (dolphins, whales, Japanese sea lions) were hunted to extinction.

      @@EricEdLoveless If one can set aside the fact that Japan harvests marine mammals, Japan does a good job in monitoring fish stocks, especially since Japanese eat lots of fish.
      China is the opposite. Their oceans are so dead they're resorting to trespassing into Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillipines, Australia. Heck, even all the way to the Galapagos and Africa, coast guards are having a rough time with Chinese fishing boats.

    • @EricEdLoveless
      @EricEdLoveless ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weilim10 living amongst the Japanese for many years showed me that all of them in their own way have a conscientious spirit. For example, even though it rains a lot every year, they still practice water conservation. At lunch, they would talk about water levels in the area as apposed to pop culture. They care about their nation and the world just a bit more than other, IMO. They know they eat a lot of seafood, so they eat anything edible off the kill so as not to be wasteful.

    You know, during my early 20's (during the 90's), I used to dive sometimes... I mean, living at a tropical island, to dive is a very normal thing, and I used to be into sea activities together with some friends. - But once I have had a real scary experience with sharks, and since that day I decided to give up the diving activities. 😕 Not that I fear sharks, but something inside of me just said "Okay, I'm done"... And like two weeks after that, someone that used to dive with our group, ended dying, attacked by a shark. (But he actually died on the ambulance, due to the hemorrhage and severe injuries on his leg)... Anyways, sometimes I still think about that...

    Grew up on the west coast loved( and still kinda do) the water but after seeing jaws as a kid and a shark attack as a kid. I now can not do the ocean deeper than two feet. Even pools at night (stupid I know) or dark waters in lakes or rivers. I am scarred. Forever. Getting eaten alive could possibly be the worst way to face death. In my opinion, anyway.

    😇💜 Hi Mackie, When I lived in Huntington Beach and only one mile from the beach. I would walk to and from the beach in the summer time. One summer day I was in the water after we had, had a storm a day or two after the storm, and I was treading water just a few feet from the shore and I happened to look down, and right under me was a sand shark 🦈🥺 that was probably 2 or 3 feet long. I didn't go back in the water 🌊 for sometime after that happened, and if I remember correctly this was around the time the movie Jaws was very much talked about LOL 🤭 I'm pretty sure I know what beach 🏖️ you surf 🏄‍♀️ 💦at.🤗💜 I can't believe you were surfing 🏄‍♀️ the same day that a great white shark 🦈 was sighted in the area where you were surfing 🏄‍♀️. Thank goodness nothing happened to you when you were surfing 🏄‍♀️.
    Thank YOU for sharing your adventure with us.🏄‍♀️🌞🏖️🌴🤗

    100% respect your desire to go into the water. But just for your safety please be aware that conditions like that. Murky water, early morning, etc. those tend to be the times when sharks are most active. A lot of people who have been attacked by sharks have said the same as you. That they were alone and that they got a weird vibe from everything before they went in. Im not saying stop going in the water, but just be cautious and aware of the conditions. Wont prevent anything but will reduce it.

      Sharks didn't evolve with humans being a part of their food chain. But, in the past 150 years or so we have started utilizing the ocean for sport and play. We are in ocean now more than ever in human history. As they encounter is more and more and those have those "accidental" feedings on humans we will become a part of that food chain. They teach each other how to hunt different prey. The Air Jaws Whites around South Africa didn't always do that. One learned and taught the others. Eventually the word will get around how easy prey we are and we will no longer be able to play or sport on the ocean
      Same for Orcas. Someone pissed the ones off in the Straight of Gibraltar and now the Orcas attack and sink boats regularly. Next will come straight attacks on humans then they pods that travel will learn from them and they will take it to other residential pods and teach them. At this rate I don't think we will even be able to be on the ocean in anything other than a largish ship.
