Inspired by your last bird song video, I got up early yesterday morning and instead of just getting on with my day I opened the back bedroom window and just listened to the dawn chorus in the woods behind me for a while. What a great start to the day.

Hi Beryl - this is so good to hear :) We leave the bedroom window (upstairs) open at night in the warmer months just so we can hear them all when we wake up, usually by the Song Thrush - it really does help start the day :) Hope you had a good weekend, best wishes - Joel

@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton to be honest we are supremely blessed, as soon as mid April comes, the nightingale arrives and doesn’t keep quiet for some considerable time. They are my backing vocals to daily life. We are so lucky in rural central France to have such a wide variety of birds around us.
By the way, your channel works… having followed your channel and watched your videos for a few months now, you have inspired me greatly and I now have a wildlife pond and have recently started a wildflower meadow on part of our garden. Thank you so much for all your help and inspiration x

Im 20 years older than you Joel, but our love of nature is something that breaches that generation gap. I love walking through woodland listening to the birdsong. I do need to improve my knowledge though, I'm often frustrated at not being able to ID species. I read Ode to a Nightingale when I was at school but I think it's a melancholy poem about man's mortality and the Nightingale's immortal song. Must check it out again.

What a wonderful woods to explore and enjoy birdsong while your there. Last summer I watched a pair of robins with a nest in one of my trees. Mom was watching over the children when a huge blue jay flew up on another branch. It flew at her, when she chased it dad showed up and watched over the children. Blue jay gone and mom was back on watch.

Last evening I heard 5 Nightingales in conversation in Somerset, the nearest one was up on my roof, about 20 feet from where I was sitting, quite unafraid of me and my dogs. They're so polite, one calls, then another, then the next, they wait until the previous one has finished speaking! Quite unafraid of me and my and my dogs.
