    Your medium format work is night/day your best work. I feel like since you have to slow down and be more intentional, it leads to your best work. Stunning work - coming from someone who has followed you since your early days.

    Sam your medium format photos are by far my favorite pieces out of all your work. I really feel like they stand out compared to the rest. I just got a medium format film camera and I am so excited to try it out and start implementing it into my work. Thanks for inspiring us all Sam!!

    So captivating! I borrowed one from a friends and it gives a different view of the world in terms of the depth and detail that just doesn’t compare with other sensors. I loved it and if anyone gets the chance, I strongly recommend trying out some medium format cameras.

    I recently got into medium format on film. It’s not that different from 35mm, but it has a distinct look, especially on film where the light fall off is so much more pleasing to the eye

    Great video and pictures Samuel !! But what’s on your thoughts with the gfx 50 line ? Do you feel the different between a 40+ megapixel full frame camera ?

    That trippy moment when you see a photo of where you're currently watching this video. 7:10
    Would love to see more photos of your road trip down the coast, man. It's always fun to see locations that are sentimental and nostalgic to you through another's eye!

    Some day I’m gonna give it a try but for now I’m happy with my combo of a digital full frame as a main camera and a 35 film as my secondary.
    Nevertheless I do love the look you are getting out of your shots.

    For black and white portraits, a Kiev 60 is still an amazing option. Or getting a good deal on a Mamiya 645E. Depends on the lens selection someone needs and the look they're looking for. Most people shoot stuff that's very similar, so I couldn't see any justification for an expensive medium format camera.

    • @garbiephoto

    I’ve had a few medium format cameras, I would recommend everyone to pick up a cheaper TLR and try it out (I used to have a Rolleiflex Automat - which you can get for around 300-400 bucks).

    What’s the difference between medium frame and full frame? Just the amount that you can capture in the frame?

    • @jmiller2032
      @jmiller2032 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that's focal length. Medium Format in the digital space is the literal size of the sensor. Larger sensors are associated with a shallower depth of field and lower noise, but that's only if you keep the aperture the same. Medium Format is also a slightly squarer aspect ratio as it is 4:3 instead of 3:2.

    • @bradleybalsters2078
      @bradleybalsters2078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmiller2032 adding onto that, in the film space, medium format can be a various amount of sizes/aspect ratios, with the most traditional formats being 6x4.5 (smallest), 6x6 (square), and 6x7 (largest)

    It’s just the use. As in Different uses. No need to add the word cases after the word use. Who made that up?!!! And don’t get me started on Price point. The word price is enough.

    it's quite simple really. If you need to ask whether medium format is worth it or not: it ain't for you
    Those who need it already know why they do.

  • @lennysvibe
    @lennysvibe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why are you assuming we know what "medum format" is? I have no idea of what you are talking about!

    • @samvarleystephens

      Medium format is any sensor/film frame larger than full frame/35mm film.

    I bought a fuji gfx 100s....and returned it. Its really not worth the money. My r5 produced just as good photos. I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn't. I just people who say that medium format is better are simply full of it.

      @@SamuelElkinsPhoto just because you like it doesn't mean it produces special images, it just means you like it. It objectively does not produce higher quality images over full frame cameras. I've side by side tested it myself.
