  • This piece. which I composed about a year ago, attempts to capture what my idea of the “American Dream” is. For me, it is not notoriety or wealth, but the appreciation of the simple life my family and I enjoy. Specifically, the imagery I had in mind was that of my kids playing in the backyard on a beautiful summer evening; but the piece is more generally about rare perfect moments.
Sheet music, in multiple keys and clefs, is available here: www.matonizz.c...
I’ve revised the piece to now include solo parts for woodwinds and orchestral strings, as well as brass. Someday, I’d like to hear this played on soprano saxophone or perhaps viola or cello.
As I said when I published the first version of this (for solo flugelhorn) a year ago, “This piece is my attempt to capture the feeling of those fleeting and rare “perfect moments” we all occasionally might experience, when everything (at least in our own little corner of the world) is just right. It can be an almost dreamlike experience if you let it, and as you feel it come to an end, the “just right” feeling may seem to wither, but you are left with happy memories of that moment. I find myself often ruminating on such times and I am thankful for them.”
Thanks to Birutė Stundžiaitė for the always sensitive and musical playing. Thanks also to Dmitry Babkin for his sound engineering prowess. And finally, thanks to dfmusicinc for their continued support!

Thanks. It works nicely. Definitely easier (down a perfect 4th) on the flugel.!

Beautiful Drew as played by you. What Cornet are you using? I am at 80 playing a yamaha (old one like me!) Best wishes from David Glasgow Scotland

@@davidthomson7815, thank you. As on most of my videos, I’m using a John Packer. It is a fairly inexpensive instrument, and not the top of their line. It plays surprisingly nice, although some notes are a little less resonant-which requires some extra effort and attention.

Thanks. Being truthful, it kind of happens. I might record something 5 times and each time will be a bit different. I’d compare it to something like “The Butterfly Effect.” You play something a tiny bit differently maybe on the first note and the rest of the performance changes. I try all the time to, corny as it sounds, be in the moment. One choice flows to the next. Doesn’t always work, and I do not pretend to be as consistent as many are, but I put music first and the rest kind of flows from that.
