I agree with Alex totally! If they know Shohei Ohtani better than anybody else, they could have prepared to hear "i am fine, i want to pitch or hit today" from Shohei. He is such a "little league boy" that loves baseball games more than anything in his life. It is not about their trust or his trust, but more about how much they care about Shohei being a human being, who is not a robot.

I agree with Alex 100%. There is a story about Shohei's coach back in Japan had to threaten him just so that he would stop training so hard and take rest. American baseball teams need to protect their star players from themselves.

Shohei is the talent, the effort, the motivation with the highest morale standards.

Alex, I'm with you! I'm worried about the Angels' insufficient medical coaching. It's not just about Shohei, but also Trout. They let Trout resume hitting again even when he was talking about "a slight pain" in his hand the previous week. They allowed him to do so because "Trout wanted to". I couldn't believe it because they underestimated the impact of around 86.7 MPH speed balls from MLB pitchers on Trout's fractured bones. The result? Trout immediately went back to IL again (Sob).

Alex you are absolutely right. Some athletes still play when they are hurt. I know I did when I played sports back in the day. I never wanted to sit out. Overall, Coaches and agents need to protect their star players.

Every baseball team needs at least one female coach or medical staff to offer something male coaches cannot, "motherly" instinct & nurturing. I agree with Alex!

Resting is mandatory for all players after fatigue crumps which is an entry to all kinds of injury and risks. It is not a matter of trust or distrust. It is your mandatory job to make him rest no matter what a player says it is necessary and mandatory to make sure he rests regularly. What the managers have been saying is all lame lame lame excuse if you are a manager. If you are a manager, it is your job to make them regularly rest especially after the player starts having crumps and fatigues. This is a lack of management from the management team. This isn't Ohtani's fault. It is the manager's fault all around.

I listen to all the Angels podcasts, including this one (all lead by dudes - where are the women lead baseball podcasts?!), and I'm tired of everyone playing the blame game. Alex is the only one who has worked for the organization and makes sense here. Thank you Alex, please let Alex give her insight on this topic/Shohei more!

Is Ohtani going to play in all remaining games this year? I want him to take a break at least once a week. I'm worried about the condition of his arm. Even if Ohtani won't be able to pitch next year, I'm looking forward to the WBC two and a half years from now in perfect condition!

Very soon there will be another great hitter that also pitches and guess what? That pitcher will throw the same slider Ohtani throws and that's the Roger Beshens influenced football slider. I'm guilty of a lot of things but two thing's I'm really guilty of is teaching since May 2018 over 600 MLB and counting my Grip, Tilt and Wrist action which is On Center Grip, Throw like a football, stiff wrist. Best Regards, Roger Beshens
