Predator is a masterful score. It could have been scored with synths by a cheesy hack musician but Alan composed a classically-derived suite of horns and strings and punching percussion that really elevates an already fun/scary story to iconic status. It's a wonderful score. Alan seems a fun guy too. Hollywood isn't all douchebags afterall!
Cant believe he "doesnt play piano" have you seen his piano mockups? This just proves its about coming up with a tune rather than being a master pianist.
@@robbyandrews223 Very true. As a composer, many approach me and say, "Since you compose you must play the piano." I explain, yes, while I play the piano, many colleagues of mine do not play the piano. Some of them do not play an instrument. Composing comes from a place of its own.
The title "How to Score Films" doesn't exist but "Scoring for Film Pub. in 1971 does. Is the correct title? I'm trying to find the book. This is a great interview. Alan Silvestri is literally my favorite film composer. Thank You, Alan Warrick
The Interviewer is so great, very attentive and never interrupts the Interviewee and obviously knows her stuff
Brilliant film composer. One of the very best!
Cast Away!...beautiful!

Happy 70th Birthday Alan Silvestri

For instance you could be a master pianist but you're not that creative, you're good at playing others ideas but not good making up tunes.
