I work in a museum in TN and we mention Mr. Patch on our cemetery tour, because he's buried here. We have one of these corn shellers on exhibit. I'm here looking for a good video of it in action. Thanks! I want my own now :)

It will do popcorn, hickory king, and everything in between. Guaranteed not to rip, tear, or come apart at the seems. Lol..This sheller is a must have for every farmstead. You should be very proud.

I am in New Zealand and was given one of these by my aunt. Her grandfather used it.
I am now gifting it to my son, never having used it myself. He is setting up a homestead and could actually use it!
I am wondering how it is mounted. I can see the lugs where it sits on the supporting wood, and lots of holes to possibly screw through, but they are not making sense . Any help gratefully received.

Hello from Russia! I have the same product, 188?, years old, I'm going to give it a second life, restore it. When I was a child 30 years ago, I remember even using it.

You need more tension on the hopper

Also, would you be able to give me the rough dimensions of the spring? mine didn't come with one and I need to replace it. thanks again.

Many people injured their fingers using that device. More so, when they put the ear of corn in the wrong end, then trying to force it down.

I have this exact corn sheller...however the top portion of the hopper on the spring side does not have all those small oval holes in it. there is 1 hole in the middle, and a large oval opening the same as yours has. I am in Ontario Canada and my sheller says that it was patented by A.H. Patch, Clarksville Tennessee, but manufactured by Erie Iron Works, St. Thomas Ontario. It has a 2 patent dates cast into it. United States November 23, 1886, and also Canada April 5, 1887. Other than the info cast into the grinding plate there are no other model numbers that I see. It does however say "Blackhawk" on the handle side of the hopper, and it has the word "malleable cast into the handle and the front hopper plate also...although the hopper one is spelled incorrectly. I guess my question is does that mean that this is a much earlier version than the 1903 in your video? and have you ever seen one like mine? thanks.

The style varied slightly over time, with the shorter hoppers being the older models. Patent dates didn't change much either, with shellers made decades after still using the original stampings.
