Wow watching this is almost healing. Im 45 (class of 97) and even though i didnt go to this school it just takes me back to that time. A time of freedom and fun. A time when mom took care of me still. A time when being funny with your buddies and talking with girls was everything. Then life hits and it hits hard, and youre scrambling to keep your head above water. 😄
Class of 1998 here! Sheldon Clark High School in Eastern Kentucky. Our years of high school really were the best. We were witnessing technology become socially acceptable but we were all much more happy hanging out, listening to music, talking about any and everything, and just really enjoying life. I miss those days and feel sorry for kids today that they will never know what a life not glued to their screens actually has to offer. Take me back to the 90's, sir! Salute!
I almost cried listened to the AP teacher wishing his student well; he sounded like my favorite AP History teacher 😢. I was in HS in 99 and this footage literally felt like I was transported back, if only for 20 minutes. It was a nice trip ☺️
Dam no wonder why they cast people who are in their twenties to play high school students rather than actual teenagers play high school students because the high schoolers back then looked so much older and the ones now look goofy as hell and look mad young.
I graduated High School in 2005. So I was in middle school in 1999 and even middle school was memorable. Everyone socialized outside between the main building and cafeteria building. High School was the same way. Everyone socializing outside. Yes, there was internet and cell phones when I was in high school but it was no where like it is now. Smartphones hadn't taken over yet and people weren't looking down at their phones unless they were about to call someone. I remember we had to use Ask Jeeves when searching for things. lol The 90s were great as a kid. Overall I think that everyone was much happier and more active back then.
99 Things with Ryan Briggs Video tape must degrade horribly because the quality of this video looks like something from the early 80s. Not 1999. I should know, I’m 35 years old and I don’t remember video looking this crappy at the dawn of the 21st century. I’m shocked actually. Either that or it was taken on a really old camcorder. It’s bizarre.
@@kconrad5893 I graduated in 99 myself. Theres so much about watching this that seems off, and it's not issues with the capture quality. Theres been few people who look anything like teenagers in 1999. This video feels way more like late 80s. The clothing, hairstyles, its just wrong.
Electrocudead Twitch Right??? Thank you! It’s so bizarre.....maybe it was a really small town or something where they were behind the times? This is not at all the 1999 I remember at all. And what’s even more ridiculous is that these kids who probably weren’t even alive are arguing with me about it.
Look at the freedom and autonomy kids had back then. It's no wonder we're still all so immature in our 30s. We were treated like Toddlers in High School. These kids got to be individuals and wear clothes and just live life.
As someone who was in high school in the late 90s, people were more social back then. Random people would come up to you and strike up a conversation. You don't really see that nowadays. This is why is seems like everyone knew each other back then.

As someone who graduated in 2002, I truly appreciate this time capsule. It is an important video that illustrates how many technological revolutions we've had in my relatively short lifetime - computing, internet, smart phone and generative AI. It is hard to believe sometimes how different my life was then compared to now. I feel like a dinosaur when my young children ask me questions about my youth.
Interesting. Around the time you were a junior, I was barely born. I experienced the 2000s to a limited extent and I remember it fondly, wish I was able to experience more of it
@@HatredInTheFlesh It was a pretty fun time to be honest. It seemed like every day there was a new technological wonder that was fun and interesting to use and we had not yet found ways to hurt people using it. Also, interacting with other people was just the natural state of existence. I feel like it is now less so.
Damn. I don’t know why this came up randomly on my feed, but I do know I got choked up knowing that we no longer know this life. @Ivan Stemberga that's right! In fact, most middle-class households owned a video camera. But they were cumbersome and required cassettes, so people rarely recorded with them unless it was a special occasion. Which is why I said that "being recorded was so rare" :)
I graduated high school in 1995. I miss those days not just because I was young but because people were normal and not so self obsessed like they are today. I have children of my own and hate the world they're growing up in. The world was a much, much better place in the 1990s.
This shit is crazy. This guy took a time machine forreal fr. This man said, "see how beautiful the girls were back in this time." Dude knew the world was gonna see this video
Wow.. I was in high school back then, it’s crazy how much has changed in what doesn’t feel like that long ago, seeing 1999 from 2023 makes it feel so incredibly retro 😂 back then like any era.. it was just normal life, I think things were just simpler and happier though, by a long way.
This video makes me think about my highschool even tough i graduated in 2010...it was such a different world in so many ways. Best years of my life, time is so damn precious.
Well it’s sort of self selecting. People who were awkward probably made sure not to be on camera. Also, they all assumed that only they would ever see it anyway. They might have been more awkward if they knew millions of people were going to eventually see it one day.
I think they were more accostumed to socializing, nowadays technology took that away from us, if someone put a camera in front of me just like that i wouldnt know what to say.
No one had a problem to be filmed because they didn’t have the “fear” to do something wrong or stupid and end up on the internet where everyone can watch them and laugh at them, nowadays you wouldn’t be able to record so freely like this
Definitely ahead of your time for this! Vlogging before vlogging. To even think back then that “maybe people will enjoy watching this one day, in blog style” is insane. Rather you were thinking about it in a vlog way or not is crazy!
To me from 1990 to 1994 were like 1986 to 1989. Then from 1995 to 1997 were similar to me as for as style goes. Then 1998 to 1999 were the same, in my opinion.
eaflores it’s funny cuz it’s the opposite of what you’re implying. Smoking in high school was much more common back then which makes you look way older. Since there’s more information about smoking now and it’s less accessible, people don’t do it as much.
You’ll notice that seniors in years past look like adults and are huge! Now seniors in high school look much younger and are relatively smaller/shorter.
Im going to be honest with you. I used to always get annoyed when people said social media was a waste of time. But this video made me realise why, Even in 2010 people still looked like this. i always wondered why the 2000s were amazing and this video made me realize why. Social media and IG sucks. Simple. People are better.
Why do I feel sad watching this, like if this shit was my life and I'm looking back at it. I'm feeling nostalgic for a generation I wasn't even alive for
It’s because you feel the energy, it was a cool time back then, very laid back and chill, i was in middle school at this time and grad high school in 2005.
It was a different time. Life was lived in the present. Imagine, no internet (unless you were some rich nerd), the phone was wired and one line only at home. Video Games weren't online. You literally had no choice but to live in the moment and bond with people.
Man… I graduated in 99. It literally feels like I’m back at my own school in the suburbs of Detroit. Just the way everyone is acting, especially the girls. Everyone is so happy and the girls are all uniquely sweet and funny and confident with little flashes of vulnerability thrown in. Everyone down to earth. The late 90’s actually had some great clothing styles some of which I feel would hold up today. Not every bit of it but these kids look pretty damn good. I kind of miss it sometimes. And one thing that stands out is almost EVERYONE is fit and energetic. Only a few people were even a bit overweight throughout most of this video. What a great time. This really really hits home. Thank you.
What's most beautiful is that everyone is engaged in every conversation and are living in the moment. It really is a shame that life can change for the better but also the worst. My highschool was a lot like this but it definitely wasn't this peaceful
I grew up in Covina and West Covina. I started West Covina HS in 88 as a freshman not for long. Ended up in Upstate NY for the rest of my HS years. I came back to West Covina in 93. This was a great time capsule of a familiar place.

lol so true. It seems that highschool graduates look younger by the decades
Bro people acted so different like they all listened with no distractions and everyone was more social even the quiet kids damn
They acted pretty much the same way today
quiet kids are quiet because they’re afraid of judgment, ig it’s because these students are more mature.

We had a 20th reunion! It’s up on the channel! Be sure to watch it!
Salute!
Yep, Grad of 99. We went too far.
Class of 99 as well, and yes, most people were happy and enjoying life. Today, I see a lot of miserable people. We are not getting the 90s back.

Exactly right. You're one of the few who get it.
@Ivan Stemberga that's right! In fact, most middle-class households owned a video camera. But they were cumbersome and required cassettes, so people rarely recorded with them unless it was a special occasion. Which is why I said that "being recorded was so rare" :)

I like how all these people are charismatic and not socially awkward at all on camera.
G L probably because they thought it couldn’t be posted? idk
Well it’s sort of self selecting. People who were awkward probably made sure not to be on camera. Also, they all assumed that only they would ever see it anyway. They might have been more awkward if they knew millions of people were going to eventually see it one day.
I think its because porn wasn't so easily accessible to corrupt their minds back then as it is now, plus no social media so they had more personality
I think they were more accostumed to socializing, nowadays technology took that away from us, if someone put a camera in front of me just like that i wouldnt know what to say.
That's because there wasn't as near as many autistic slow students back then.
No one had a problem to be filmed because they didn’t have the “fear” to do something wrong or stupid and end up on the internet where everyone can watch them and laugh at them, nowadays you wouldn’t be able to record so freely like this

1999 is definitely totally different from 1990
Yeah it takes a few years after the decade starts for the trends and culture to kick in.
June Amarillo That is 100% accurate.... I have always thought the same thing! Lol
To me from 1990 to 1994 were like 1986 to 1989. Then from 1995 to 1997 were similar to me as for as style goes. Then 1998 to 1999 were the same, in my opinion.

eaflores nah there was way more pollution back there
eaflores it’s funny cuz it’s the opposite of what you’re implying. Smoking in high school was much more common back then which makes you look way older. Since there’s more information about smoking now and it’s less accessible, people don’t do it as much.
