Although the Italians missed the mark with their Carcano, with the carbine perhaps being the exception, the beretta 1917 was just glorious. I want one of these.... lol
It would be nice to have C&Rsenal talk about an ideal "load out" for WW1 soldiers had they been able to mix and match the best equipment available to the Allies and Central Powers

They were strong enough to defeat the Austrians-Hungarians. Learn some history. Read up about the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. It lead to the dissolution of the Austo-Hungarian Empire and contributed to the end of the First World War.

That dangling trigger on the bodeo is actually quite clever in my opinion
To say that the 9mm Glisenti "doesn't belong anywere in the spectrum" is a little too much. Power wise is in the same ballpark of 9mm Makarov (service cartridge of all eastern block during cold war), 9mm Steyr (Austrian service cartridge in WWI), 9X20mm Browning long (service cartridge of Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden during WWI) and 9x18mm Ultra (German Police service cartridge in the '70s). The only "mistake" (that's only a modern problem, back there it was ininfluential) had been to make it of the same dimensions of the 9mm Para instead of cutting the case one mm shorter (that's what the Germans did with the 9mm Ultra, that's a 9mm Glisenti with a 1mm shorter case).
Saw one of those Italian revolvers with the dangling trigger bring sold on consignment at a Gun Range last weekend. Had fun sharing what little I knew (from you guys!)0 about the trigger design with the staff there

Morten Poulsen The Video was initially conceived for equipping mounted troops only: that the reason behind d the folding trigger. In fact the chances to have a misfire not while drawing but while holstering the revolver at full gallop were very high
Mounted troops actually mostly kept on using the Chamelot Delvigne. the longer barrel and better materials were appreciated, while the heavier weight, longer reloading time and more difficult field strip were not really defects for mounted troops (that really didn't reload or field strip their weapons while in action).
I recommend going over to C&Rsenal and watching all of their videos because watching Mae shoot is awesome.
Very cool show. I particularly like the weapon collaboration it really works in giving you a feel for what the soldiers were using.

Always interesting to see how different countries approached their firearms. Another nice job from the folks at C&Rsenal
A slight design oversight that i see with the first revolver they showcased is that it can't shoot down, which could be an issue in mountain combat or when raiding an enemy trench.
if you have your finger on the trigger and then point downward it most certainly will shoot.

I perceive that you take this work seriously, and try to be as respectful of the material as possible. Question: Does the material ever get to be "too much" to handle, or rather, are you ever emotionally moved enough by your research that you have to stop and take a breather?

If you can get Othias to make a full special episode on semi-automatic rifles someday, that would be great. Technological development allowed for some use on the battlefield even if that was not in the trenches.

I always wonder, where these weaponry was produced? I mean, the main industrial region of each country and its exposure near the frontlines. I think is Milan in this case, isn't it?

And Brescia it's even closer to Austria and the 1915 border
The Carcano rifles were manufactured in four state arsenals, the main one being Terni, in central Italy. The Bodeo revolver, being very simple to make, had been manufactured by several private contractors. The Glisenti 1910 had ben manufactured only by MBT in Brescia, but the production had already ended first than the beginning of WWI. The Berettas had been obviously made in Gardone Val Trompia, again near Brescia. The Fiat machineguns were made in Turin and the Villar Perosa SMG in Villar Perosa, a town near to the French border

Very interesting episode! Especially the Beretta part. A point about the revolver: I could imagine it would be difficult to shoot somebody fast from above (let's say from the ridge of a trench) with that floppy trigger pointing downwards.

Probably, assuming you drew it at the moment you are coming up to the trench, but I imagine it'd be out of the holster before leaving your own trenches.
But I don't know enough about the standard loadout for the average Italian officer, so I can't be sure if it was a primary or secondary weapon for them.

Yeah, I also thought about that. In the episode Otaious (I butchered that spelling) said that pistols were secondary, but it is a good question if there secondary for the Italian officers too. Still, a floppy trigger sounds like a silly solution to the problem at task.

When you were above the ridge of an enemy trench you were supposed to already have the pistol in hand and the finger on the trigger.

I was wondering if you guys will ever do a special on the various military awards and medals of the war.
Why did pilots discontinue the use of Aerial darts? Because Aerial darts could pierce a helmet.
Indiana Jones I believe it was the same problems with flamethrowers in WWII, they were considered in humane.
A 'Merica I think flamethrowers were used in WWII by the Germans and Americans
I would also say that bombs would atomize a helmet, and the man underneath it.
kind of a waste killing one single soldier when you could bring a bomb and possibly maim many, WW1 was all about reducing people to statistics
Throwing darts don't sound like an effective or easy way to take out enemy pilots

So like their rifles Italian pistols were neither particularly great nor terrible. Just okay. Nice job.
I'm a complete slut for italian guns. My fav carry is a baretta cheetah- the .380 thought the bobcat (.25) is a good hold out. I also had, and sold at a profit, a mataba.-semi-auto .357 magmum.-a powerful load on an amazingly steady platform it was incredible-unfortunately having too many moving parts it started to jamb very easily-like the chauchat-and it was way too huge for CC. The guys at the rang called it 'the italian monster' I liked it to an expensive mistress. amazing but expensive and needing lots of up keep

Actually the average Italian soldier's equipment in WWI was very modern. "simple to manufacture" shouldn't be mistaken for "old". It's actually easier to design a weapon complicate in its manufacturing and functioning than a simple one.

That's the funniest thinge about sidearmes which are crude or overly simple ... it doesn't matter, if you get shot with those while trying to stab someone, you're still dead and you're just as dead after a stomach hit by this one as you are by a stomach hit with a .50AE Desert Eagle ^^

This channel talks alot about how many prisoners keep getting taken, i was just wondering if somebody can clue me in on how one nation faires with how many prisoners they had by the end of the war, and the care given to said prisoners?
I just read an anecdote that by 1917-1918 in Russia the care was non-existant because the government was collapsing. When the Bolsheviks took over the camps they just told the prisoners that the country they were prisoners off no longer existed and they HAD to go. The prisoners were left to their own devices to reach home.
That is just an anecdote of ONE austro-hungarian prisoner. Not sure about how representative it is.
I really like these collab video's with C&Rsenal, I've watched every single one. However, the guy seems to either mispronounce or mix up numbers, production years or caliber sizes in almost every single video.. I can't be the only one to have noticed. Great content still!
