Exactly! You score points by advancing they're not scoring points= infected win. It's not the job of the tank to get kills outside of hold out finales it's the job of a tank to stop the survivors from advancing forward so the respawning special infected can whittle them down and kill them.
lighting a tank on fire is a big brain move as it negates their unorthodox ninja capabilities (IE jumpscaring you as they silently wait behind a door) ok they're not entirely silent but in the heat of a zombie rush, these damn tanks always just seem to sneak up on me behind a corner

Why do some tank players punch as they start climbing a ladder? Is this an actual strat? I see rh4xor and some scrim players do it a lot
It helps when he survivors crouch on the top to stop the tank. In shorts ladders the punch hits the survivor to avoid that.
Theres no strat really, it's just a habit some players does
