Oh man, I’m just so encouraged that we are this far in, and still being this surprised! Boy did I love this one! Great to see you buddy! Thanks for being here!
You guys would love the fragrance community on TH-cam...well, kind of sort of, lol...there can be some controversy at times and there are a lot of people who love niche fragrances over designer...BUT if you guys got your nose on some of the stuff that I've smelled, you'd be very impressed and just blown away at times. Your reactions at times and love of fragrance notes really make me imagine some of the stuff you'd be excited by...but then again, fragrances are much more expensive than shave soap! Anyways, you could almost make this a shave soap / fragrance channel, almost like all things fragrance-centric! I'm always sharing with friends decants of fragrances and trying to open their eyes to new experiences, and that's what started me looking into shave soaps because of that connection to fragrance. Good stuff, you two! This was a great episode.
Hey my friend! You know, I’m so glad you were here today because this comment is so timely! How do you feel about cologne homages? Is there a fragrance homage house you like best? What is the general community consensus? How close do you feel they get nowadays? I hope you don’t mind all of the questions! Thank you so much for your kind words! 💜💈😀🙌
@@TheBarbershopDuet -- Clones and dupes of fragrances vary by company, both in the shaving and fragrance worlds. And it is based on how well they are done. For example, Aventus clones / dupes have completely saturated the market in both communities, but there are only a few which I say that I LOVE compared to the others. I can understand clones in the fragrance market because some fragrances are VERY EXPENSIVE and it is tough to cough up $400 for a bottle of Aventus from the Creed Boutique, so getting a lesser inspiration or clone saves you a ton of coin and you can still get away smelling amazing. In terms of clones, though, I can't say that there is a "house" that I like that bases their fragrances or shave soaps on clones, as some of their clones may be VERY good and others might be just "okay." One house that does fragrance dupes of scents that is pretty good is Armaf, which is a house based in the United Arab Emirates, but over the past 4-5 years there have been a TON of houses based in the UAE that have clones now of various qualities (Lattafa, Al Haramain, Afnan, Perfume Parlor, etc.). If you look in the Fragcom on YT, that is what is really talked about now...just all these fragrance clones. And a lot of the Fragcom community has mixed feelings on clones, but the consensus is that many fragrance enthusiasts (niche lovers) frown upon them because they are not original and it is almost like "stealing" someone else's work. Clones are fine to me if they work well and smell great, though. But personally, I'm not a fan of the UAE stuff because over a few years, the scents kind of turn a bit and don't accurately represent the original fragrance much, so I tend to go for fragrances that are more from niche houses that have higher perfume oil concentrations like Mancera or Parfums de Marly. Some houses can get fragrance dupes that are VERY close to the originals, but almost like how Marcus emphasizes, sometimes a direct clone isn't very exciting and you want a bit of a twist to the formula. My favorite "inspirations" of the Aventus formula, for example, are Cedrat Boise from Mancera (fragrance) and Spartacus from Ariana & Evans (shave soap). Cedrat has a very fruity Aventus vibe that is absolutely captivating and Spartacus has a more smoky Aventus vibe and has a bit of a old school twist on the formula. I just love these different takes on established formulas and what companies can do when given creative freedom. Mix it up a bit, and don't just make a re-creation! Put your own "signature" on the scent! That's what I say, anyways.
Glad you guys liked it. The Oud blends so well. I really like this one a lot.
