This is not actually a song, it is a musical version of the tragedy! When all the men were martyred during the war, every 15-year-old boy had to leave their homeland to fight.

    First comment from me, yay!
You said you felt like you were listening to a story here, you're right.
this song is actually a lament. Much like Finnish people, Turkish people also suffered a heavy process of losing many battles in early 20th century. The heaviest one is -in my opinion- the Gallipoli war. We lost over 250k soldiers. And because of constantly losing battles, Ottoman empire started enrolling teenagers and even younger kids to the fronts. So many of the casualties were just kids.
and the editor did a great job in the video. In 02:52, we see Berat Efe Parlar, a very young kid. Its like the editor said: 'now imagine this kid joining the war, getting shot and dying'

    • @JanneNordman

Did that kid appear on the later Doga Icin Cal Videos?

And also, this is what Atatürk said about the falllen soldiers: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well. ''
Ilike to think that this song wasn't just dedicated to Turkish soldiers, but to British, Australian, indian and new zealander soldiers as well. and we get a hint of Australian music and instruments, at the very beginning of the video.
And you can tell that i have waited a long time for you to react to this song, good evening from Turkey!

"Hey Onbeşli", one of the most popular folk songs of the city of Tokat, is actually a lament. It tells the story of young people aged 18 and over being called to the front for the Battle of Çanakkale in 1897. It is believed that the word Fifteen originates from the year 1315 in the old calendar used at that time.

"Hey Onbeşli", one of the most popular folk songs of Tokat, is actually a lament, although it is perceived as a game mood today.
It was written about the participation of young people between the ages of 15 and 19 in the front. According to a legend, it tells about the participation of Halil of Tokat in the Battle of Gallipoli.
One of the questions that comes to mind once again on the anniversary of the March 18 Victory is Who are the Fifteen? Here is the song "Hey Fifteen" and the story of the Fifteen.
    WHO ARE THE FIFTEEN?
The heroes who wrote our glorious history were the little soldiers who were sent to the Dardanelles War at a young age. But those who were sent to war were not 15 years old. There was another reason why they were called the Fifteens.
In the First World War, the loss of people in the Ottoman army was quite high. The Ministry of War tried to send the soldiers on leave for a few days while the war was going on, because the increasing losses in the war caused the fear that the population would decrease, and therefore the soldiers were sent to their hometowns to increase the population.
During the Dardanelles War, when the Entente Powers started to land as of April 1915, when reinforcements were needed at the front, Sultan Mehmed V. Reşad issued an order on May 14, 1331 (May 27, 1915) to amend the Military Liability Law and send high school students to the front. He had to call.
In the will he published, Sultan Reşad made a provisional arrangement regarding the paragraph titled "Katib-i sultaniye 10th class regular (continuing)", which was prepared in addition to Article 42 of the Taxation Law: The clause in the 42nd article of the Kanun-u Muvakkatinin (temporary law) has been postponed (postponed). Those who are in the tenth grade of mekatib-i sultaniye (sultani schools) during the examination (as a result of the examination) will also have the right of service-i makzura (the service mentioned).
After Sultan Mehmed V. Reşad's will, the Ministry of War also published a communiqué and those born in 1314 (1896) (ie 19-year-olds) who were not yet called up for military service, and those born in 1315 (1897) (who had just turned 18) had developed bodies, were capable of combat and were capable of using weapons. He wanted them to surrender to the continents.
Upon this call of the Sultan and the Ministry of War, the youth of Balıkesir, Bursa, Kütahya, Manisa, Adapazarı, İzmir, Aydın, Muğla and Konya joined the war with the determination and belief to fulfill the lofty duty that the country expects from them.
The situation in question is described in a very painful and dramatic language in the famous folk song "Hey Onbeşli Onbeşli", which was burned in Anatolia in memory of the participation of these young Bahadırs, who are between 15 and 19 years old, to the front. The “15s” mentioned here are those born in 1315. In other words, they are the young people who were born between June 1, 1897 and May 22, 1898 and have reached the age of 18.
THE STORY OF THE TURKUS 'HEY ONBEŞLİ'
According to a legend, the story of the Fifteen folk song is told as follows:
Halil of Tokat was born in 1315 as the youngest of the house. At that time, due to the law, a man in each household could not be drafted to ensure the safety and livelihood of his family. Halil, who was not called to the front because he was the youngest and only man in the house, joined the war voluntarily.
His mother, whom he left behind, was killed by Greek gangs, and his wife was kidnapped in gift. Gift, whose life darkened from that moment, was released after a long hiatus. Everyone in the village was talking badly about the Gift and saying that he was on the wrong path. Returning to his village, Halil believed all these things and was offended by gift. Gift, who could not stand these events, never reunited with Halil when he left the village.
The folk song Hey Onbeşli is sung not as a single voice, but as a conversation between Halil and gift. The words in the following part of the folk song belong to the Hediye
I translate it directly by Google Translate. It coluld be some missing means

    Hello Janne,
I would like to recommend two TARKAN movies that I still enjoy watching.
Tarkan films were shot in the 1970s and are cult films in Turkey.
    Two in particular are beautiful:
    1- Tarkan: Gümüş Eger
It tells about Tarkan, who avenged his father from the King of the Alan, who killed the raider brain of the Turkish Emperor Atilla.
    2 - Tarkan: Viking Kanı
It tells the struggle of the Viking Queen and Tarkan, who attacked the Hun Empire, the Turkish Empire.
Despite the technical impossibilities of that time, the octopus scene is still watched (with some mockery) today.
However, when I was a kid it seemed too realistic to me :)
    Love Janne.

A small notice, the 15 in 15'er is not the age itself as different from comments written down. 15 is the year 1915, which mentions about the soldiers who had military service in that year and sent to Gallipoli campaign, and one of four of them couldn't return back and almost half of the remaining soldiers became handicapped. And yes, many of them were quite young or in even teenage age. The battle lasted for a year in very bad conditions both for Turkish or British side, especially for New Zelland and Australia, Gallipoli is accepting as birth of their nations after this tragedy.
Yemen, Gallipoli and Sarikamis battles still exist inside of Turkish people as horrible tragedies.
And Tolga Cogulu in 2:28 plays here a micro tonal guitar. The frets of this guitar are modified for eastern (Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Arabian etc.) music, it has quater tones that western music doesn't has it and it is quite confusing to play it. He has an interesting video "Haydar Haydar - Tolgahan Çoğulu & Sinan Ayyıldız" that he plays a simpler version of a micro tonal guitar.
Also, you might try to listen "Taksim Trio - Kumsalda Dans", Taksim Trio is a quite underrated band, they are all good musicians.
