The story of folk songs (Çarşamba was flooded/Çarşamba'yı sel aldı)
In one of the villages on the shores of the Abdal Stream, which stretches to the Green River in the Plain of Çarşamba(region and country name), Ahmet, the son of a poor family, lost his heart to a young and charming girl named Melek. He was blinded by his love, and Melek recognized him and opened his heart to Ahmet. They were promised, and after a while, Ahmet left the village to complete his military mission (compulsory military service) . Every day without Ahmet meant a lifetime for Melek. Mehmet Ali, the son of the village leader, laid eyes on Melek. But Melek saw nobody but Ahmet. When Melek refused Mehmet Ali, Mehmet Ali and a few of his men took him up to the mountain because the village leader's reputation would be shaken.
When Ahmet reached this news, he took his gun and escaped from the soldier and began to search for Melek. Ahmet, looking for his lover rained one day and the Green River overflowed, Çarşamba almost turned into a lake. The flood descended from the summits of the Canik mountains to the foothills and swallowed everything it had added to it. After life returned to normal, the villagers gathered in the village square. They saw the bodies of two people on a rock. When they approached, they saw that inanimate bodies belonged to Ahmet and Melek. They were lying there holding hands. According to the legend, the large rock was separated from its seven places and a cypress spilled water from each of them. The villagers prayed. Prayers have become strings expressing the pain of people for years. ''Çarşamba'yı Sel Aldı'' Folk song was born from these prayers. Later, a water mill was installed at the rock's location and the area was remembered as ‘Değirmenbaşı’. The wood mill had seven stones. It was considered to be a good luck to walk seven times over the set that gave water to the seven troughs and to throw water seven times over the left and right shoulder. The tradition, repeated in every Hıdırellez (spring festival), lasted until the demolition of the mill in the 1970s.
