I did notice that the heat pad had no covering and appeared to have no layer of separation from the orchids. I always wrap my heat pads in newspaper and add a layer of shredding between the orchid and the heat pad to avoid accessive heat to the orchid as that can also cause damage to the orchid as well. I was just thinking that could've caused the issue with the cattleya because you pulled it out right after the heat pad...just a thought.

I ordered from Orchid Garden for my first ever online orchid order recently(as I couldn't find much available in the UK): the order was easy. Living in the UK I had some questions about UK sending requirements (since Brexit it has all changed), and they were really helpful in telling me exactly what I needed,quick response etc. After 2weeks I had not heard anything, so they sent me tracking details- it took 1day to get to the UK boarder, another 14days in UK boarder, and another 4days to be delivered by Royal Mail. When I placed the order it was early Nov, and unusually warm weather-but alas we had a quick weather change and snow for several days whilst they were in transport. Also, due to the boarder delays it ended up getting stuck with Royal Mail due to their strikes (no strikes when I ordered,but just took so long in customs!).. Needless to say 1 was completely dead, and the other is recovering but was very close to death! It is my fault for the UK unfortunate timing, and the weather was unexpected. But a warning to all those ordering from UK, seems to me that customs means ordering from overseas is currently a real risk.. next time I will have to find a private seller here in the UK -any suggestions welcome!
I agree, if cattleya was mailed out dry it would be just fine, at least judging by conditions of the rest travelers. Looking forward to your rePotme series...

Hey Danny, Collectors series -perhaps if you could pair with growers in the states here you could do a, lot of specialty orchids, you would make a video on care and the grower would have ready and you could link to that grower. Geez what extra customers that grower could gain. And we would have a Danny sponsored plant at home. Truly a collectors item. Glad you’re doing 5 days. Can’t take care of business unless taking care of self first.
Ordering from OrchidGarden you just have to take your chances. I have ordered three orchids from them and one was ok, one was okayish, and the third one was in a bad state (rotten, mushy media, dead roots etc.). One thing to be aware of: they have this policy where they won't accept complaints if you have ropotted the plant. Which is really annoying because they send some of them in opaque pots, so the only way to check on the roots is to unpot them. I learned this the hard way when trying to file a complaint on the state of an orchid, and getting a really smug response pointing to this policy. No "we are sorry, we will try to do better". Just "you have unpotted the orchid, get lost".
I really liked this video, gives me things to think about and ask for when ordering orchids. Broke my heart that one orchid with yellow leaves. Poor thing! So very happy that you will now have work/life balance. It will make you a better youtuber. So can you tell me how brexit will effect where you order from? I have a video request. Can you take us along when you make your flower shop run. Would love to see what they have? A change of scenery is always refreshing. Thanks!

Can you say something about how vigorous and healthy your orchids from orchid garden are in the longterm? I ordered from them just once, but in comparison to other orchid nurseries I ordered from around the same time (Orchideen Röllke, Orchideengarten Karge, Elsner Orchideen) the orchids I received from orchidgarden are growing pretty well (although one seedling had a damage caused by moisture) and had no pests at all. Within the orchids from the other nurseries there was always at least one with snails (one from Orchideen Röllke, most orchids from Orchideengarten Karge), spider mites (at least one from Orchideengarten Karge) or scale (one from Elsner Orchideen). Due to does pests the orchids from the other nurseries are unfortunately struggeling. In comparison the orchids from orchidgarden are growing well and my little seedling with the moisture damage recovered greatly (cattleya: the damaged growth stopped growing and it produced a new growth which surpassed all older growths by a lot).
"partially my fault for ordering in January" they could simply refuse to ship during the cold season also. Places I order other plants from, such as Brecks Bulbs, just say "you'll get it when the season is right"
OH yay Danni - I have one of those Wenzelli for almost a year and it's done NOTHING ...it's green and seems happy but no flowers no real growth so I'll be VERY interested in your care for it - I have mine in the repotme spaghnum moss right now - it's winter here ( 2 feet of snow on the ground) so i run lights & heat for the orchids part of the day - please please please help me with it ! xo

It was then replaced by a banner having to do with the ad, and later no banner was there, period. Also, would love to hear some U.S. vendor reviews if any ship to Cyprus and don't charge exorbitant amounts of money for shipping!
Hi Danny, I would go for a refund/replacement on that Cattleya as it was far too wet to send regardless of the time of year. I have bought a fair few orchids from Orchid Garden and overall they have been good and they do have some interesting / rarer varieties available alot of the time. If they stop packing their plants wet they would take the risk out of buying from them ... I hope they see this video sometime and make the small change needed :)
Hello. I bought a cattleya orchid whithout flowers, but ALL her roots was dead. I repote her in a new bark chips, is there any hope to grow new roots on this season?

I don't think it is your fault. They know it's cold in january and shouldn't wet the orchids before shipping.

Cringed at the wet medium. Just sloppy practice. They should've known - especially considering the impact of cold + wetness on live plants.
