I say work on the cozy memories because it’s beautiful and you have invested the most time. I am envious of your thrift shop. I will,be in need of a walker at some point since I have a bad back situation and am too old to have the operation. I went to my local thrift yesterday and found a beautiful walker with a seat and everything. I paid $6. I felt my prayers were answered.
I have been watching your videos while holding my 2 month old daughter. My 4th child but first girl. I was so scared to have a girl but watching you & Lilys relationship has brought me much comfort. Praying I can raise a woman like Lily. ❤
Maybe if you crochet a row of solid colour every 2nd or third row in the granny stripe shawl it may break up the colour changing. Your cozy memories blanket is beautiful, I would encourage you to continue working on that one too. Happy Holidays Amber.
I have made many granny stitch blankets, motifs and shawls. I agree that I don't really like the look you are getting. If I were you (which I am not of course) I would rip it out and make the first two rows a solid color of the same or very similar color. Then you can go to more randomness, but I am not liking the short changes so much. That looks like it would do better as a granny square or motif yarn and should have nice results. If you don't want to take it out, stop now with the short change yarns and do at least two rows of similar solids or even tonal or speckled,. Even in scrappy blankets, it is nicer if there is some sort of plan because you will like it more in the end. The other thing to do is a granny stitch border of the same or similar yarn around when finished. HOlding two fingerings together is also an option and could work to neutralize your short changes if you have at least a couple of rows of the same paired. It will also work up faster. Just suggesting!
Morning amber 🎉🎉 Love all the christmas ornaments 🎉🎉 Love thrifting,,,, I would start over the shawl,,,try plainer colors to start,,,, I just finished the the granny wrap crochet by annasboos house,,,free pattern,,,,love ,love it,,,so much,,,its triangle,,,, 💕 Take care ELAINE 🏡
I struggle with really random scrappy things....I like to make scrappy things where the colors all go together. So I'll separate my scraps and only use things I like all together.
Hi Amber! Your Granny striped shawl has summery, patriotic colors to my eye, so I would restart. Gifting thrifted bakeware filled with food is the best idea! Peace and Blessings and Good Health to you 🧶🎁🎄📚🧦📖💄
Love the lipstick! Thrifting always fun not just because of the price but like you said, you’ve never know what you’re gonna find. Things from all around the United States actually! At our last place, I was always setting off the alarm every time I use the oven. Oh well, it’s a necessary item I guess.❤
Good for you. I need to use all that yarn that I have stuffed in closets. That's not my unique yarn. I think you should keep going with it. Mix it up stripey and whatever is whatever. You’ll still have it sitting around if you don't use it. I say keep going and mix solids with it. ❤❤🌲🎨🧶 OMG. Those ornaments are the best. I make these balls called Temari Balls, its a stitchery craft. They are geometric and gorgeous. I love them. I wish I had time to make more. But knitting you can wear. But its a wonderful craft.
Hi Amber! Enjoying your lovely vlogs😊 I think you should do your memory blanket. I just finished mine after taking forever with it and mine was like yours with the small squares. At one point I stuck with doing 2 squares every Sunday and that’s what really helped get it done. Just a thought…you could make yours into a rectangle shape and turn it into more of a wrap since that’s what you were planning with your granny stripe?…Good luck and enjoy!❤
I really like your cozy memories blanket. It looks like self striping yarn works better in that project than the granny stripe one. Maybe use the self striping in the cozy memories and variegated and speckled in the granny stripe?
Smart idea with the thrifted casserole dishes! I just bought some aluminum pans with lids and they were over $1.50 each. I’m going to start doing what you did!
How very thoughtful of you to take a meal to your friend. What better way to show a friend you care and hope her day gets better than a home cooked meal! I thrifted today, as well. I got some beautiful items that I am gifting a friend. She will love them. ( I hope). I also found myself some beautiful tree bulbs to use next year, at wonderful prices. You do look so nice in the red lipstick! Keep wearing it. It was nice to see Brad pop in for a cheery hello. See you tomorrow!❤ Cindi
I made a granny stripe blanket out of the commercial self-striping sock yarn and I love it. It actually looks more cohesive the larger it gets. It’s really just like making a scrappy quilt- the more scraps you use- the better it looks. It also feels much more durable than my other sock yarn blankets. The yarns don’t tend to get caught and pulled as easily. But, if the project isn’t bringing you joy- start over.
Well I’m so glad you filmed today because i looked forward to your happy vibe! I do something similar with dishes when taking food anywhere. But i go to Dollar Tree here in our little town. Especially for holidays where they have allot of cute themed pieces. That way i never have to worry about getting my dishes back - i don’t want them back. Thanksgiving my niece pointed out if i stick to the same bowls for cranberry sauce next year, she will have four matching! 😁. Thanks for today! ❤
I think the cozy memories would look so cute as a pillow if you don’t feel like finishing it! It’s beautiful but those squares are so small it may take 10 Christmas’s to finish 😂
I’m crocheting the same shawl and doing it with a 3.5mm and an advent from last year. I think the quick changes would bother me too so if it were me I would start over.
Yay for wonderful thrift store ornament finds! I’d say trust your gut with the shawl - maybe a few more rows to see if your thoughts change as you have more fabric, but trust your gut 😊 beautiful cozy memories too!
Lily has learned a life time skill of thrifing from you. Joe smart to buy the glass dishes for taking food to your friend. The aluminum would have cost just as much! Getting a kick out of you and your red lipstick. Sometimes the littlest thing gives us a boost
I had to laugh out loud when Lily was looking for more ornaments- the look on her face was so cute! What a great idea to send used bakeware to someone with food deliveries- I recently made several meals for friend and used those disposable aluminum pans.
Have you tried making a granny triangle shawl? You might like that more. I love your cozy memories blanket, keep going on it. I consider mine to be a long term wip.
Hi Amber, thanks for your cosy videos! I think you can create a master piece of the granny shawl with some planning of the colors. Just want to share that many years ago I saw a beautiful one in a yarn store. It was huge and designed like an old rug rag with stripes with 1 (or 2?) solid main colors (think it was black and possibly red) combined with lots of scrappy colors. The scrappy sections had their own color dominance. So it went like 2 rows of MC and 6 rows scraps in green, 2 rows MC and 6 rows scraps in red etc. It always comes to my mind when talking about scrappy project! It was stunning.
Maybe you can hold a solid neutral color yarn with the sock yarn to blend the colors more. And it will probably go a lot faster, too! That chicken and vegetables looked delicious 😋 ❤
It's SO PRETTY where you live - I loved getting to see a little bit of your town!! Regarding your granny shawl, I'm a firm believer that you have to love what you're making. I adore the scrappy look for this shawl, but if you're not loving it, you're not going to want to finish it and fingering weight yarn is definitely more time consuming. I happen to love your shawl so far, so I'm interested to hear what you'll do with yours. Beautiful vlog - I definitely relate to the forgetting stuff during December thing - I'm all over the place, too! Glad I'm in good company! Haha! 😄
I love your red lipstick it just lifts your face which is beautiful to begin with. You also smile more when you're wearing the red lipstick you probably didn't even realize it I have started wearing red lipstick more often and I know it makes me just feel pretty even when I know I don't look pretty I feel pretty inside😊
I am just finishing a Granny Stripes blanket in leftover fingering weight yarn. I used a 3.50 hook. My yarn was not primarily self striping except for one. Most of them were solid or semi-solid, and some were speckled. My rule was: do two rows with each color before switching and weave ends as I go. Randomly picked the color sequence but often alternated a dark shade with a lighter one. I liked the effect of the self striping yarn in the small amount it was used because it visually broke up the striping here and there but not too much so you didn’t lose the stripes. Doing two rows before color changing makes a nice effect so that the rows look like rick rack. I don’t known if any of these tips would work for your shawl but I think it is a good idea to look at other’s projects. It is also hard to tell after only a few rows. It might look different and have its own rhythm in a larger amount of knitting. Good luck and hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.
I’m getting ready to start a cozy memories blanket. I think I want my squares a bit bigger. I plan to knit a square a day. Yours is so pretty. I would tear the crochet one out if you aren’t happy with it.
Thinking about your scrappy crocheted shawl, do you have solid color scraps that you could intersperse with the self striping? In the end, you want to like it enough to enjoy wrapping in it.
I think the shawl will be great! I made two squares of a cozy memories and decided I didn’t want to continue and was going to frog it but I just threw it out! Gasp. It was almost 50 here in Wisconsin yesterday and Thursday it’s supposed to be 10! But then warm back up to 30’s.
I think your scarf will look good in the end but if it’s not bringing you joy either frog it or set it aside. The idea of you snuggled up in it later sounds life giving.
That's a great idea! I don't have a ceiling fan. Only in the bedrooms. Although I bet I could try turning the microwave fan/vent on. It's super loud, but it might work.
If it's not bringing you joy, just frog it! I don't think you'll like it when you continue crocheting the shawl this way. So kind of you to bring food to your friend, and what a good idea to use those containers! Especially with those amazing thrift store prices!! It's nice to see you in so much better shape than this time last year!
So interesting to see your neighbourhood, a real impression of the USA, not made up in Hollywood. And it's pretty and vibrant. Thank you, Amber, your vlogmas is a lot of fun and good emotions.
Just a thought about why that pretty, scrappy, casual wrap/shawl is changing colours so quickly: you're crocheting with that yarn, not knitting. Every knit stitch is a simple loop -- but every *crochet* stitch (except chains) is larger than a single loop. Crocheting always, therefore, uses up more yarn than knitting -- and uses it more quickly. You'll get a really, scrappy fun shawl out of that multi-coloured yarn, but you won't get the same "semi-orderly" construction you'd get as you would if you were knitting with it. Just a thought! 🙂 P.S. I think the idea of using inexpensive, second-hand bake-ware for those give-away dinners is *terrific*!
When I’m thinking about continuing something I’ve already worked on/spent money on but don’t really like, I remind myself not to fall prey to the fallacy of sunk costs. If you don’t like your granny stripe shawl now, will you like it the further you go?! But your memory squares blanket is unreal, I love it so much. Would love to see it finished. Also wondering what happened to the Jimmy beans/Madeline tosh blanket? I’m a new viewer so maybe missed an ep where you showed it as an FO!
I would recommend a TH-cam video by Crochet by Nora. The pattern is called CROCHET GRANNY RECTANGLE - ELEGANT METHOD. I made a scrappy one that I love.
There are no shoulds in knitting! If you don’t love it then do something else. I’m not a scrappy blanket person, so I understand. ,subeditor scrappy socks that fade sort of ? Or a musselburough hat?
Hi Tara! I wrote out the details of it in one of my vlogmas episodes but it's a Jelly Balm in Brick House and the lip liner in Ritzy Red. Both by Laura Geller.
beautiful as always to see what is going on, did you buy the cookbook? have stopped the video several times trying to see who the author was. IF you bought it please send me the author. LOL Happy Vlogmas
I say work on the cozy memories because it’s beautiful and you have invested the most time. I am envious of your thrift shop. As you said, it's just your cozy scrappy shawl. Just KEEP GOING and it will all look pretty in the end.
I have been watching your videos while holding my 2 month old daughter. My 4th child but first girl. I was so scared to have a girl but watching you & Lilys relationship has brought me much comfort. Praying I can raise a woman like Lily. ❤

For scrapppy crochet throws or shawls, I like to use a seed stitch or moss stitch. It seems to make the colors look more blended. Love your channel!
I have made many granny stitch blankets, motifs and shawls. I agree that I don't really like the look you are getting. I love the patchwork look of your blanket! KEEP ON GOING!
13:37 ohhh I love this little block square blanket!!
hi have seen others that added a solid color (white or cream) to the sock yarn so it was like a speckled blanket and made the stripes less noticable
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.❤❤❤❤ I love the fact that you and your daughter craft together.
Smart idea with the thrifted casserole dishes! I just bought some aluminum pans with lids and they were over $1.50 each. I’m going to start doing what you did!
I usually use the handle of my wooden cooking spoon to switch the smoke detector off because I can't reach it either ☺
How very thoughtful of you to take a meal to your friend. What better way to show a friend you care and hope her day gets better than a home cooked meal! I thrifted today, as well. Yay for wonderful thrift store ornament finds! I’d say trust your gut with the shawl - maybe a few more rows to see if your thoughts change as you have more fabric, but trust your gut 😊 beautiful cozy memories too!

For your granny stripe shawl maybe add a neutral in-between each coloured rows so it feels more cohesive to the eye?
I love the blanket but I understand not feeling motivated to finish it. I went all day Tuesday thinking it was Friday.
I had to laugh out loud when Lily was looking for more ornaments- the look on her face was so cute! What a great idea to send used bakeware to someone with food deliveries- I recently made several meals for friend and used those disposable aluminum pans.

My suggestion is to make a triangle granny shawl. You start at the bottom and build out. I hate the chain row and do what I can to avoid it.
Really loving the lipstick! Missed it yesterday and I think it would have been perfect with your new shawl 😊 Terry, BC Canada
I think you are right - I should have worn it with that shawl!
I’m getting ready to start a cozy memories blanket. I think I want my squares a bit bigger. I plan to knit a square a day.

@@beckywhitt7356 thank you! I wish I would have made my squares a bit bigger. Enjoy knitting yours!
If the granny stripe isn’t bringing you joy. Stop! 😂🎉. Cozy memories gets my vote ❤❤❤❤. Have a wonderful day 🎄🎄
Hi Amber I have made Moran's shawl to pattern. It sits really well on shoulders. You can repeat row 4 to make as big as you want. Paula ❤
This is very helpful information as I have decided to start over. Thank you, Paula!
Thinking about your scrappy crocheted shawl, do you have solid color scraps that you could intersperse with the self striping? In the end, you want to like it enough to enjoy wrapping in it.

You are crushing the red lipstick!💄

My smoke alarm in the kitchen goes off every time I use my air fryer. So I’ve learned to turn the ceiling fan on to keep the heat from setting it off.
That's a great idea! I don't have a ceiling fan. Only in the bedrooms. Although I bet I could try turning the microwave fan/vent on. It's super loud, but it might work.
Hi Amber.
I think if you don't love it, don't do it!
Use that yarn on a different project.
Scrapy socks, maybe 😂

Oh my goodness, Amber, if I didn’t know better I’d say you’d been drinking coffee! LOL!!!! I hope things went better for you during the evening. ;)

Hi Bekah! I keep forgetting to mention that blanket project. I am going to talk about it on an upcoming episode.
Please share your chicken and veggie recipe!!!!

Thanks! Merry Christmas 🎄
Hi Tara! I wrote out the details of it in one of my vlogmas episodes but it's a Jelly Balm in Brick House and the lip liner in Ritzy Red. Both by Laura Geller.
@ thank you so much ☺️
Not sure if you watch the Knitting a Good Yarn podcast but they just mentioned you on their current podcast!. Great episode!
I have not heard of that podcast. Thanks for letting me know.
beautiful as always to see what is going on, did you buy the cookbook? have stopped the video several times trying to see who the author was. IF you bought it please send me the author. LOL Happy Vlogmas
I can't remember what cookbook I talked about in this episode. Was it the GF cookbook? The Bakerita one?
If it's not bringing you joy, frog it. What is the hurry?
Hello Amber, if you’re not enjoying the granny stripe shawl, I say don’t do it. Your available time is precious .
Stick with what you love! If the granny stripe isn't bringing you joy, then set it aside for now. P.S. The red lipstick is definitely you!
