      thanks. this is the set I started with amzn.to/2kf8Wjb and you can do most everything with it. For the price I find them to be the best chisels on the market.

    Nice! Which woods are better for this and which are to be avoided?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that depends. the harder the wood the more difficult it is to carve. but the more difficult to carve the faster you learn. This is Basswood. It is generally considered the beginners wood because it is east. but that being said you can carve anything you want. it just depends on how much patience you have.

    • @larsof54
      @larsof54 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live on the west coast on a big island. Douglas Fir and Cedar are extremely plentiful (read cheap) along with soft maple. Thanks for the vids and the info.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      all three of those carve well. the soft maple will be harder to push the chisel through, but you have to make sure the chisels are extremely sharp for pines. it is easy to crush that wood.

    Why do you prefer glue sticks over spray adhesive that you can still move after spraying?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spray is messy and I much prefer the hold of the glue sticks. I have never had a problem with it. but each tot heir own.

    I prefer spray adhesives. you let it dry until tacky and make sure not to spray the opposite side. the spray adhesives cleanup easier.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a piece of leather with a buffing compound on it one of the best and easiest ways to get a final sharpening on a blade. I sell them on my website if you want to see them. Wouldbywright.com/shop

    Have you tried to carve into something rock hard like Black Locust....or Osage Orange?? I have been drying a chunk of Black locust to make Thor's hammer for a neighbor.....I want to carve in the hammers name.....drawing a blank right now.....but also want to carve in some viking runes and decoration.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a great project. I have carved purple heart and Iron wood. both are extremely hard. just take your time and do it in several passes rather than just the one. looking forward to seeing it!
